CODE OF CONDUCT

As part of our joint commitment to each other and the communities in which we operate, all racegoers should be aware of the Code of Conduct and observe the following whilst at our Racecourse. For the safety of other racegoers and racecourse staff, please consider wearing a face covering in busy indoor areas or outside where social distancing cannot be maintained. If you feel you may be experiencing any of the recognised symptoms of Covid-19, please put on a face covering and speak to a member of staff in a well ventilated area. It is best to travel home if it is safe to do so. Regularly wash your hands, use hand sanitiser and avoid touching your face and dispose of any used tissues appropriately. Familiarise yourself with your entry point and the location of amenities within the racecourse. We are operating a cashless event. On-course bookmakers/pool betting operators may accept cash. Enjoy the vast amounts of space around the racecourse and avoid congregating in busy areas (for example, along the rail or by the Winning Post). Make sure all walkways, corridors and doorways etc are clear before you walk through. Follow all signage and the instructions of staff, officials or any emergency service personnel present at the racecourse. Make sure other members of your group have read and understood these guidelines. Thank you so much for your continued support and co-operation. We hope you have a wonderful day with us.

EXPERT VIEW

A quick way to see a horse’s past performance. These are its recent finishing positions.

How the experts rate the horse’s chances:

Look out for Letters: C D CD BF

= Has won at this course = Has won over this distance = Has won over this distance at this course = Was a beaten favourite

MORE INFORMATION ON THE FORM / P F U R CO B S r

= New racing season = Missed racing season = Was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race = Horse fell = Rider unseated = Horse refused to race = The horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse = Horse was brought down = Horse slipped = The horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race = Disqualified

d Bold form figures = performance in all-weather (Flat) or Point-to-Point (Jump) races

2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse. 3. Timeform view and TFR rating 4. HORSE’S TRAINER & THEIR LOCATION

Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race. 5. JOCKEYS Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day. OTHER USEFUL DETAILS 6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey 7. Saddlecloth number 8. Horse’s name 9. Birthplace of horse 10. Days since the horse last run 11. Horse’s age 12. Jockey’s weight (stone and lbs) 13. The horse’s breeding – father (sire) and mother (dam) 14. Horse’s owner 15. Horse’s breeder 16. Sponsor

BETTING EXPLAINED Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

ANNUAL

MEMBERS NEWSLETTER

Welcome to Haydock Park Annual Members on our last meeting of the year, The Last Fling Day. Welcome to Haydock Park Annual Members on our last meeting of the year, The Last Fling Day. By The Last Fling, I am not referring to the 1987 Romantic Comedy of the same name, rather the fantastic horse trained by Sue Smith and a quadruple Haydock Park winner, culminating in winning the De Vere Gold Cup as it was then back in 2000. He was a fantastic staying chaser. Today’s race looks another enthralling renewal and it will take a brave horse to win at the end of nearly three and a half miles. Today sees a lovely gesture from the racecourse executive of a free luncheon, which is always a wonderful gastronomic delight for Annual Members. We also crown our tipping champion for 2023, with a presentation in the winners enclosure during racing. It gives me pleasure to announce the naps competition will continue in 2024. A reminder to all - you can renew your membership today for just £410 If you’re thinking of joining, or a present for your significant other, it really is a present which is worthwhile. With an unrivalled list of reciprocals and many excellent days here, it is brilliant value working out at less than £14 per fixture. We race again in three weeks for The Peter Marsh Chase, which is always a highlight in the glum month of January. Recent winners include Royale Paigaille and Bristol De Mai. Finally, I wish you all a very Happy and prosperous New Year. Thank you for your support this year and have a pleasant and successful days racing.

HAPPY AND FINE has been suited by a switch to chasing this season and, given he had something to spare when scoring at Leicester recently, he’s worth a chance to double his tally in this sphere. Regal Blue is one to consider after a solid chasing debut PLAY SMARTER and Ned Tanner looked unlucky not to win on his last completed start, so he’s another one to consider. HBLB PRIZE MONEY The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £776,829 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from September to December 2023.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
