Betfair Sprint Cup Day at Haydock Park has finally arrived – and the whole team is delighted that you have joined us!
Today marks one of the biggest events in our fixture list and is a date that we look forward to all summer long.
Ran over six furlongs and worth £400,000, the Group One Betfair Sprint Cup attracts some of the most exciting sprinters from across England and Ireland to Merseyside. The legendary Tin Man won the race back in 2018, while last year’s renewal saw Minzaal emerge victorious
This year we welcome the mighty Shaquille to Haydock Park, fresh from his last win at Newmarket in the July Cup earlier this summer While the Julie Camacho-trained three-year-old is set to go off favourite, he’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Mill Stream and Believing, both of whom were supplemented for a chance in the race earlier this week
A further seven top-quality races will also take place throughout the afternoon, culminating with the Her Highness Sheikha Bint Mubarak Cup, a race for Arabian horses. This unique race offers something really different and I highly recommend that you stick around to watch the action unfold
Betfair are supporting all of the races on today’s main card, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them and their team for their ongoing partnership with the racecourse. We wish them all a wonderful day with us.
It’s hard to believe that after today, we have just three more fixtures on the flat before the end of this year’s season It’s certainly been one to remember and we are proud to host so many top-class events here at Haydock Park
As always, I’d like to thank you all for joining us today – we wish you a wonderful afternoon and very much look forward to the next time we see you.
Warm wishes,
Molly Dingwall General Manager

PLAY SMARTER
AZTEC EMPIRE has yet to score on turf but ran a crackerwhen just edged out by Forza Orta at York last time having suffered a troubled passage and can reverse the placings on 1lb better terms. Kevin Ryan’s 5-y-o is also at the top of his game and feared most, although a solid case can also be made for Sea King, Caius Chorister and Nolton Cross in a highly competitive Old Borough Cup

A Group 1 hat-trick beckons for SHAQUILLE, who has come a long way in a relatively short space of time and his big-race victories at Royal Ascot and Newmarket were all the more meritorious given his antics at the start He appears to be versatile both ground and tactics-wise andthere could easilybe moreto come fromthis colt. The progressive Mill Stream gets the nod ahead of Spycatcher, Saint Lawrence and Sacred for forecast purposes.

MACDUFF got the idea just in the nick of time on his Newmarket debut and is expected to leave the bare form well behind now stepping up in grade, so is narrowly preferred to Al Musmak, who posted an excellent effort at this level at Ascot in July, which is supported by the time figure. Remaadd got off the mark with loads in hand at Goodwood recently and can’t be taken lightly, either

The Arabian Racing Organisation was thrilled to welcome the HH Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival, under the banner of the HHSheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Cup as the new sponsor of the ARO Cup in 2021. It is fitting that all the previous winners, Aghsaan and Shomoos Athbah, and dual winner, Bayan Athbah were all mares.
With an increacesd prize fund of £20,000 this year, it was also the first Arabian pattern race to be run at Haydock Park and ARO is delighted to have the opportunity to introduce international Arabian racing to anew audience though the Sheikh Mansoor Festival’s feature race in the UK.
The Sheikh Mansoor Festival has played asignificant role in the promotion of Arabian racing and breeding around the world since it began in 2009, aiming to continue the efforts made by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to preserve heritage sports and equestrian sport in particular.
Sponsoring more than 150 races in 2023, the Festival supports awide variety of contests from the grassroots to the highest level, which culminates in the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown, a Group 1PA run in Abu Dhabi in December, one of the world's most valuable Arabian races on turf.
Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival, said: “The Festival is delighted to support the Arabian Racing Organisation through the sponsorship of their existing programme of Wathba Stallions Cup races and looks forward to returning to Haydock Park for the HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Cup.”

Trainer Phil Collington has dominated this event since its inception, winning all four running’s with fillies or mares. He looks to have another useful type in THAYDAH ATHBAH though unlike his previous winners, this is her first outing in Group company. Upstart Crow is still on the upgrade, and could exploit any chinks in her armour, whilst further drying of the ground would help Abiyah Athbah maintain her excellent placed record in this race

IMPORTANT NOTICES
RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE
The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
