Hello and a verywarm welcome back to Haydock Park forthe first day ofthe Old Newton Cup Festival – Glass Times Race Day!

We’re so glad that you could join us for what is set to be a brilliant afternoon of racing as this annual meeting gets underway

The first of today’s races is at 2.40pm when runners and riders in The Yale Filles’ HandicapStakeswillgotothestart.Afurtherfiveraceswilltakeplacethroughout the course of the afternoon, with the action ending after the last at 5.20pm

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who are supporting us here today, including Yale, Selecta Systems, Supalite, TuffX, Geri’s, Eurocell and EBF. Their support is invaluable and we wish them all a wonderful afternoon at Haydock Park

After today the action comes thick and fast, with another two days of racing culminating in the bet365 Old Newton Cup Day on Saturday. Ever popular, the day is set to attract some of the best horses in the country, and we can’t wait to see what stories unfold.

Throughout the remainder of the summer season, we have so much more still to look forward to, with a great combination of fantastic racing and top-class entertainment yet to come. If today, you have been inspired by the action on the track then our Sprint Cup Festival on Thursday 7th September – Saturday 9th will be sure to get you excited. Tickets start from as little as £15.

On Friday 11th August, Nile Rodgers and Chic will bring an evening of non-stop hits to the racecourse, while on Saturday 12th the Betfred Rose of Lancaster Stakes and our annual Ladies’ Day will be taking place

For now, we wish you all a wonderful day with us and hope to see you again very soon

VETS SCREEN POLICY

We have agreed with our vets that the screen should be erected, whenever a horse requires veterinary treatment on the course. This does not reflect the severity of an injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse.

Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse.

A sister to this year’s Craven winner Indestructible, she represents the powerful William Haggas stable and a bold showing can be anticipated on debut. Similar comments apply to Godolphin debutante Wild Goddess and she’s shortlisted also Of those with experience Jakima and Royal Elysian should progress. Salaamaat is another newcomer to monitor

PLAY SMARTER

SIGNIFICANTLY has tumbled down the weights and showed more encouraging signs when fourth on return/yard debut at Ayr (6f) during May. Just the type his stable do well with, he could be worth chancing to build on that from this career-low mark. Gis A Sub was below his best at York but is another potentially well treated if things click again and is one to monitor Mojomaker and Silent Flame also make each-way appeal.

PLAY SMARTER

A few of these arrive with a question mark against them so this looks a good opportunity for SLIPPIN JIMMY to resume winning ways on the back of a good Ayr fourth achieved off a 1lb higher mark. Dee See Are could emerge as the chief threat now she is falling in the weights with handicap debutant Where’s Freddy another who needs factoring in with improvement on the cards.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
