Official Racecard - £3.00 SATURDAY 13 MAY 2023 PERTEMPS SWINTON HURDLE DAY

Hello and a very warm welcome back to Haydock Park for Pertemps Swinton Hurdle Day!

This afternoon’s fixture is well and truly unique given that it is the only meeting in the whole country to combine both flat and jumps racing across the same card. The feature race, The Pertemps Network Swinton Handicap Hurdle Race, takes place at 3.15pm with a pot on offer of £100,000

Although a handicap race in name, some top horses have made their mark here with recent victors including the future Grade One winner Silver Streak (2018) and last year’s winner N’golo who won the race last year in impressive fashion for trainer Ann Duffield.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Pertemps, who are supporting all races across today’s card We wish them and their guests a wonderful day with us

After racing, make sure you stick around to see ABBA tribute group, The Super Duper Troopers, performing at our Eurovision party. They will be based trackside from after the last race and waiting and ready to get you in the mood for the big night – so make sure to swing by!

After today, we next race on the 25th and 26th of May before the Betfred Temple Stakes Day takes place on Saturday 27th Named our Summer Social, the three days of racing not only attracts some of the best equine stars in the sport, but also gives you a great opportunity to meet your friends and family for a lovely day out.

The Summer Social marks the start of the flat season proper here at Haydock Park and there is so much going on over the coming months to look forward to. On the 10th of June we will be hosting the John of Gaunt Stakes Day, while the Old Newton Cup Festival will take place between July 6th-8th.

Wealsohaveplentyofafternoonandeveningracingscheduled, aswellastwoofourincredible music nights, which will see both Craig David and the legendary Nile Rodgers & Chic coming to Haydock.

To find out more about all of our fixtures including where you can find tickets, please visit our website www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/haydock

For now, I wish you all a wonderful day with us.

Warm wishes,

ANNUAL MEMBERS NEWSLETTER

Welcome to all our Annual Members on Swinton hurdle day for a day of eclectic action.

Today sees something unique, the only fixture in England which offers both flat and jumps racing on the same afternoon and some high-class action to boot, as befits the ITV coverage afforded to the fixture.

The Swinton Hurdle is our feature today and has a long history of high-class winners. We are boosted with some excellent flat racing a long-distance hurdle and a national hunt flat race There really is something for everyone.

It is worth reflecting on what an excellent National Hunt season we have had at Haydock Park Protektorat winning the Betfair was exceptional, but we also saw a stirring finish to the Grand National Trial.

Today we have our annual members seating, bar and exclusive boxes for your enjoyment.

We will also be heading across the M62 to the Knavesmire next week for our reciprocal .I do hope you enjoy viewing perspective Oaks challengers in the Musidora, following our annual visit to the Roodee earlier this week

Attention turns to the flat after this point. The Temple Stakes a five-furlong contest is only two weeks away and is the ultimate test of speed

Details of naps leaders, reciprocals for the rest of the year and other Annual Members notices are available on the noticeboard in the Annual Members Bar.

I do hope you have an enjoyable and successful days racing and I look forward to seeing you all today.

PLAY SMARTER

THANKSFORTHEHELP was sent off favourite for the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham and, while he couldn’t quite justify that support (better than result), he was impressive back in novice company at Southwell since and is well worth another chance to prove himself ahead of his mark. Nicky Henderson-trained pair Mill Green and Bold Endeavour should give the selection plenty to think about and there are several others for whom a case could be made.

Metabolt and recent winner Liangel Hope are also firmly in calculations.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
