THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU
Welcome to Haydock Park for an evening of racing, followed by Rudimental live in concert. Firstly, welcome back to Haydock Park for one of our flagship race meetings of the season, the Betfred Rose of Lancaster Carnival – what a fantastic way to start my time as General Manager of Haydock Park Racecourse. So I feel I should start my first racecard welcome by saying a huge thank you, not only to the team here but also to the many local people I’ve met since arriving for helping me to settle in so quickly. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know my new surroundings since I left my role as General Manager at Carlisle for the chance to lead the team at Haydock Park. I had four and a half fantastic years up in Carlisle and I’m incredibly proud of the efforts of the team there to place the racecourse right at the heart of the community. That’s something I’m looking forward to continuing here at Haydock Park, a racecourse I already know well. Throughout the year we are treated to top quality racing, both over fences and on the Flat here at Haydock Park, and this weekend is no different. Our opening day gets us off to a flyer with an exciting seven race card, all kindly supported by our title sponsor this weekend – Betfred. We would like to wish Betfred and all their guests a wonderful evening and weekend with us. Taking centre stage tonight and stealing the show will be BRIT-award winning band RUDIMENTAL, who will be performing a DJ set live after racing. We encourage all racegoers to stay and enjoy the live music after what we hope will be a fantastic evening of sport. The Betfred Rose of Lancaster Carnival continues tomorrow with our season highlight, Ladies’ Day. Putting fashion at the forefront tomorrow, we have partnered up with brands such as Forever Unique, House of Cavani, Mercure Hotels and Betfred to ensure that we have some incredible prizes up for grabs, making this the most extensive prize package for a Ladies Day Style Award at Haydock Park! We hope to be able to welcome you back for another brilliant day of action – on and off the track. Once again, thank you very much to all who have welcomed me so warmly to Haydock Park. I am excited to get going and to meet you all. If you see me around today, then please do say hello. Enjoy this evening, and I hope to see you throughout the rest of the summer. Best wishes. Molly Dingwall General Manager
DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING - TOMORROW SATURDAY 6TH AUGUST ROSE OF LANCASTER STAKES LADIES DAY Summer is all about spending Saturdays with your friends and family, so what better way to celebrate than joining us for Ladies Day: Rose of Lancaster Stakes. Day 2 of the Rose of Lancaster Carnival combines fabulous racing with an air of style, where fashion is at the forefront.

PLAY SMARTER
A tricky contest to unravel despite the small field but preference is for TRUE JEM. Karl Burke’s filly got back on track at Newmarket just under a fortnight ago, and with this drop back to 6f sure to be in her favour, she can notch a third win of the year. The returning Dreams of Thunder has made a fine start for Amy Murphy so she heads up the opposition, with top-weight Zim Baby completing the shortlist.

The manner in which MONICA drew clear at Carlisle suggests this longer trip should be within range and she’s selected to make a winning start in handicaps. Bungley went close off this mark at Beverley last week and is the obvious threat, particularly if cheekpieces give her just a little more. Under The Twilight looks best of the remainder.

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £2,124,530 at this racecourse in 2022.
