A very warm welcome to Hamilton Park for our Family Racenight as we reach the halfway stage of our centenary season. Family-themed racedays play a big part in our fixture list and tonight is no exception as we welcome racegoers of all ages to enjoy the combination of great racing, free family activities and live music.
Our thanks go to all of tonight’s sponsors – Stephen McCluskey & family, the European Breeder’s Fund, Rocca Restaurant & Ora Bar and Racing TV, as well as our own Hampton By Hilton Hamilton Park Hotel. I hope you and your guests have a wonderful evening with us. I would also like to thank all Owners, Trainers and Stable Staff who have supported our fixtures so far this year, as well as the whole Hamilton Park team who each play an important part in delivering the Hamilton Park experience for you all to enjoy.
Tonight’s feature race at 7.20pm sees a strong field of runners set to go to post over our longest race distance of 1m 5f The David O’Meara-trained Prince of The Seas is at the top of the weights whilst Dunkeld Dreamer is the only runner in the field coming into this contest with winning form, having taken victory for Karl Burke on her last outing at York, albeit over 1m 4f Spirit of Jura is the only course and distance winner in the field and I’m sure that Charlie Johnston will be hoping for a return to the form that saw her win here last August. I wish all of this evening’s runners and riders the very best of luck.
In addition to our usual array of free children’s entertainment around the grounds, we have teamed up with our valued partners at Rocca Restaurant & ORA Bar to bring you Rocca Bingo, a fun and interactive game with some fantastic prizes up for grabs. All you have to do is collect your free Rocca Kids Activity Bingo Card from the turnstiles or Information Kiosk. Complete the challenges, upload your photos to social media and tag both Hamilton Park and Rocca Hamilton on your parent or guardian’s account before the fourth race for your chance to be in with a chance of winning a Rocca Family Hearty Sunday Lunch Experience, Pizza Play Time for four children, or Pizza Play Time for two children.
Tonight’s musical entertainment begins at 4.30pm, when up and coming Scottish boyband Just The Brave will take to the stage to showcase some of their new material. Later in the evening, local singer, songwriter and guitarist Connor Fyfe and his band will be performing a fantastic live set for us all to enjoy as the sun sets across the racecourse. Last orders at the bars isn’t until 10.30pm so do make the most of the warm summers evening by staying on to enjoy the show. However, if you’d prefer to take in the action from the FIFA World Cup, then we’ll be broadcasting the first half of the football from Miami within the Hotel bar also showing the game
We’re racing again with back-to-back fixtures next Thursday and Friday, which fall on our exact 100-year anniversary of racing beginning here on Bothwell Road in 1926. We will be staging some of our best racing of the season, including the Scottish Stewards Cup and the Glasgow Listed Stakes on Friday 17th July which will be followed by an incredible live performance from Tide Lines. Discounted advance purchase tickets are available at www.hamilton-park.co.uk with no booking fees applicable and we’d love to welcome you back as we mark this historic occasion.
Have a wonderful evening and I hope you back a few winners!
Kind regards
ASHLEY MOON, RACECOURSE MANAGING DIRECTOR

Do not be put off by the weird terms you may hear on the racetrack. Like any traveller in a strange country, the novice racegoer will soon pick up a smattering of the language, and then rapidly become fluent. The following might help those racegoers keen to enhance their language skills.
ACCUMULATOR bet involving two or more selections in different races: winnings from one are placed on the next
ALLOWANCE is the weight concession the horse is given to compensate for its rider’s inexperience
ALL WEATHER RACING flat racing which takes place on an artificial surface
AMATEUR (rider) on racecards, their names are prefixed by Mr, Mrs, Captain, etc., to indicate their amateur status

DAM mother of a horse
DISTANCE the length of a race: 5 furlongs is the minimum and the 4 1⁄2 miles of the Grand National the longest. Also, the margin by which a horse wins or is beaten by the horse in front: this ranges from a short head to ‘by a distance’ (more than 30 lengths); a ‘length’ is measured from the horse’s nose to the start of its tail
DISTANCE an unmarked point 240 yards from the winning post (thus ‘below the distance’ means closer home than that point)
DRAW for flat racing only, describes a horse’s position in the starting stalls, drawn randomly the day before
EVENS or EVEN MONEY when your stake exactly equals your winnings - thus £5 at evens wins a further £5
FILLY female horse up to four years old
FOAL horse of either sex from the time of its birth until 1 January the following year
FURLONG 220 yards (one eighth of a mile)
GELDING castrated horse

MAIDEN horse which has not won a race
MARE female horse five years and over
MONKEY betting parlance for £500

OFF THE BIT/OFF THE BRIDLE describes a horse being pushed along by his jockey, losing contact with the bit in his mouth
ON THE BIT/ON THE BRIDLE describes a horse going well within himself, still having a grip on the bit

PLATE shoe worn by horse for racing
PONY betting parlance for £25
RULE 4 betting rule covering deductions made from winning bets if a horse is withdrawn after the betting market has been formed but before the ‘Under Starter’s Orders’ signal; the amount deducted depends on the price of the withdrawn horse
RUN FREE describes a horse going too fast, usually early in the race, to allow it to settle
SCOPE the potential for physical development in a horse
SIRE father of a horse
SPREAD A PLATE when a racing plate or horseshoe becomes detached from an animal’s hoof, this sometimes causes a delay while the horse is re-shod

YANKEE combination bet involving four selections in different races: six doubles, four trebles and one four-horse accumulator - eleven bets
YEARLING horse of either sex from 1st January to 31st December of the year following its birth

Commissioned in 2026 to mark Hamilton Park’s 100th year of racing, this memorial sculpture honours the late Sir Ian Good in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Hamilton Park, Scottish Racing, and the racing industry as a whole.
Sir Ian served on the Board from 1990 and as Chairman from 1999 until his passing in 2023. Under his leadership, Hamilton Park developed into one of the UK’s leading independent racecourses, including the addition of the on-site Hampton by Hilton hotel in 2019. He also played a key role nationally as founding Chairman of Scottish Racing, and held senior positions with the Racing Foundation, the Tote, and the Jockey Club.
In collaboration with the Good family, the sculpture has been created by renowned sculptor Michael Turner who specialises in creating unique, handcrafted artwork using marine grade stainless steel. With the working title of ‘A Dynamic Force’, each individual panel of stainless steel has been shaped by hand to create a sculpture that embodies the energy and excitement of horse racing, showcasing the power and grace of the horse in motion alongside the unique harmony that exists between horse and jockey.
Located between the Hampton by Hilton Hotel and the Sir Ian Good Grandstand, this sculpture stands as a lasting tribute to his vision, leadership, and legacy
The design includes subtle tributes to Sir Ian’s life and legacy, so please do visit the sculpture to see them for yourself.

about FIVE FURLONGS (5f abt 7yds) (1000m) 5.40pm
This is a five furlongs apprentice handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 75. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

about FIVE FURLONGS (5f abt 7yds) (1000m)
RACE DESCRIPTION
This race is a five furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

RACE
This is a one mile, five furlongs and 16 yards handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 66 to 85. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb
Leading course trainer (20-25): D O’Meara (24 wins from 158 runners, 15%) runs PRINCE OF THE SEAS
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): C Johnston (9 wins from 64 runners, 14%) runs SPIRIT OF JURA
Weightwatcher: PRINCE OF THE SEAS won off a handicap mark of 92, his rating is now down 5lb to 87.
Longest Traveller: PRINCE OF THE SEAS trained by D O’Meara, Upper Helmsley, 208 miles.
BETTING FORECAST: 2-1 Spirit of Jura (GB), 10-3 Dunkeld Dreamer (IRE), 4-1 Prince of The Seas (IRE), 11-2 Sure And Stedfast (IRE), 8-1 Spirit of Acklam (GB), 28-1 Ameilya (GB)
RACE SUMMARY: SURE AND STEDFAST has been shaping up well this season and, with the form of his 2 placed efforts at this course looking strong, he could be ready to get back to winning ways. Spirit of Jura is feared most after she got back on track at Ripon last time, while Prince of The Seas would be respected if taking up this engagement. 1-2-3: 1.SURE AND STEDFAST (IRE) 2.SPIRIT OF JURA 3.PRINCE OF THE SEAS (IRE) STEWARDS NOTE: SURE AND STEDFAST: Following its run on 27/6/2026 it was reported that the horse was denied a clear run.

RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile and 68 yards handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage

ONE MILE about THREE FURLONGS (11f abt 15yds) (2200m)
This is a one mile, three furlongs and 15 yards handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70.
