WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to Hamilton Park for our Kinrara Gin Scottish Trophy Racenight, where we have some excellent racing ahead of us throughout the evening. All races this afternoon are being run at no less than £1,500 above the new BHA minimum values and the whole fixture is being run at 42% above those same values. This is all part of our continued commitment to the quality of the racing we stage here at Hamilton Park, with investment across all classes of race as we offer record prize money of £1.74M for our centenary season. A huge thank you to all of our sponsors this evening, The European Breeders Fund, the family of David and Bill McHarg, Racing TV and of course our new title sponsors and valued partners Kinrara Gin. I hope you and your guests have a wonderful evening with us. Tonight’s feature race is the Class 3 Scottish Trophy Handicap Stakes at 7.00pm, which is the richest race being run in the UK today and has attracted a near-full field of thirteen runners. It should be a compelling contest having been targeted by trainers from Newmarket, Yorkshire, Hampshire, Berkshire and of course Scotland who will all be hoping for a share of the £26,000 prize fund. The Roger Varian-trained Return to Unit is at the top of the weights and is likely to be amongst the favourites alongside Point of Contact for Andrew Balding. Jim Golide is double-handed in the race with Altareq as well as course and distance winner Dwindling Funds, who won here last August and comes into tonight’s race off the back of winning at York on his last run a couple of weeks ago. Elsewhere on the card we see the return of course specialist Iris Dancer in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap (Class 4) at 8.00pm, where she has the chance to further extend her lead as the winning-most horse in Hamilton Park history which currently stands at twelve career wins. I’d like to thank our Owner’s and Trainer’s for choosing to run their horses here today and for their continued support of our race programme - I wish all of tonight’s connections the very best of luck. Looking ahead it’s just ten days until our last Friday evening race meeting of the season, the Scullion LAW Lanark Silver Bell on Friday 21 August, where the race for the historic Lanark Silver Bell takes centre stage. With prize money of £103,000 on offer it is the richest race to be staged at Hamilton Park this year as part of a fixture with a total prize fund of over £210,000. We also see the welcome return of legendary DJ George Bowie and his GBX Anthems, who will be taking to the stage after the racing action has finished. If you haven’t got your tickets yet there are still some on sale at www.hamilton-park.co.uk. It is set to be another historic night, and one not to be missed! Have a wonderful evening and I hope you back a winner or two! Kind regards

ASHLEY MOON, RACECOURSE MANAGING DIRECTOR

Sir Ian Good Memorial Sculpture

Commissioned in 2026 to mark Hamilton Park’s 100th year of racing, this memorial sculpture honours the late Sir Ian Good in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Hamilton Park, Scottish Racing, and the racing industry as a whole. Sir Ian served on the Board from 1990 and as Chairman from 1999 until his passing in 2023. Under his leadership, Hamilton Park developed into one of the UK’s leading independent racecourses, including the addition of the on-site Hampton by Hilton hotel in 2019. He also played a key role nationally as founding Chairman of Scottish Racing, and held senior positions with the Racing Foundation, the Tote, and the Jockey Club. In collaboration with the Good family, the sculpture has been created by renowned sculptor Michael Turner who specialises in creating unique, handcrafted artwork using marine grade stainless steel. With the working title of ‘A Dynamic Force’, each individual panel of stainless steel has been shaped by hand to create a sculpture that embodies the energy and excitement of horse racing, showcasing the power and grace of the horse in motion alongside the unique harmony that exists between horse and jockey. Located between the Hampton by Hilton Hotel and the Sir Ian Good Grandstand, this sculpture stands as a lasting tribute to his vision, leadership, and legacy. The design includes subtle tributes to Sir Ian’s life and legacy, so please do visit the sculpture to see them for yourself. 6

THE HAMILTON PARK “HANDS AND HEELS” APPRENTICE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (PART OF THE RACING EXCELLENCE SERIES) RACE DESCRIPTION

FOR THREE YRS OLD AND UPWARDS NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 8

RACE STATISTICS

Ashley Moon, Managing Director will present a memento to the winning owner. In addition, they will present a cash prize to the person in charge of the horse judged to be the best turned out. Owners Prize Money. Winner £2890; Second £1446; Third £722; Fourth £361; Fifth £181. (Penalty Value £3663.80)

This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130. Leading course trainer (20-25): J Goldie (76 wins from 536 runners, 14%) runs SUMMERSTORMS DREAM Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): I Jardine (6 wins from 30 runners, 20%) runs NEVER DARK Fancy That: I Jardine won this race in 2023 and 2024. The stable runs NEVER DARK today. Longest Traveller: UKIYO trained by A Kinirons, Ireland.

BETTING FORECAST: 3-1 Hurt You Never (IRE), 9-2 Cotai Starlight (IRE),

5-1 Tanjen (IRE), 11-2 South Shore Island (IRE), 15-2 Ukiyo (IRE), 12-1 Never Dark (GB), 14-1 Summerstorms Dream (IRE), 33-1 Hvar (GB) RACE SUMMARY: COTAI STARLIGHT is the least exposed in the field and rates an appealing candidate dropping to 5f for the first time given she’s not short of pace. She can resume winning ways, at the expense of Hurt You Never, a 3-time C&D winner who ran well in first-time blinkers (retained here) when runner-up off this mark at Nottingham last week. Tanjen drops in grade and shouldn’t be taken lightly, either. 1-2-3: 1.COTAI STARLIGHT (IRE) 2.HURT YOU NEVER (IRE) 3.TANJEN (IRE)

Between them father andd son quitte literally channged thhe face of racinng at Ayr and Musselburgh by turning them into dual purpose co ourses. In laying out a National Hunt course at Ayr in 1950, Bill ensured the survi vival of the Scottish Grand National whenn Bogside had to close in 1965 following the withdrawal of Levy Board support. t. But for Bill McHarg we might not be racing here today. Hamilton was in dire financial straits when he was appointed its managing director in 1973, yet he was prepared to risk his own money to buy up 60 per cent of its sharres in order to form a Trust whose avow wed objective was to “continue racing at Hamilton for all time.” Eight years later Bill began his long fight against an iniquitous rates burden that had been imposed upon the Scottish courses. With his astute legal mind (he obtained his law degree in 1948) and eloquent arguments he won the ear of George Younger, the then Secretary of State for Scotland and MP for Ayr, but even then relief was slow in coming although when it finally materialised the future of racing in Scotland was assured. I n 1 9 8 0 Dav id h ad tu rn ed f r o m h is f ir st l o v e o f r a l ly i n g ( i n t h e l at e 1 9 7 0 s h e w a s co-driver to the Scottish champion Drew Gallacher) to become Clerk of the Course at Musselburgh, a post formerly held by his father, while his grandfather, Alec, had been General Manager there during his years of service to Scottish racing (1924-56). Bursting with new ideas, he brought in a series of innovations for the benefit of racegoers and the welfare of horses and jockeys. He also took a particular pride in turf management and in this respect Hamilton presented him with a challenge not faced since Noah built his ark. Every raceday seemed to bring o n a m i n i m o n s o o n w h e n t h e r e s t o f t h e c o u nt r y w a s b a s k i n g i n s u n s h i n e . I n f a c t , o n occasions he would be watering at Musselburgh when he could not use startiting stalls here because the ground was so heavy. In 1986 he brought in Alec Fergusson as Head Groundsman and over the next few years t h e y w o r k e d w o n d e r s l ay i n g m i le s o f n e w d r a in s a n d i m p r o v i ng t h e s o i l . D u r i n g o n e sodden year, the ultra-dedicated Fergusson laid down 300 tons of sand on the course by hand because the ground was too wet for a tractor and trailer. The workload finally took its toll, and after an unfortu tunate falling out at Ayr, David left for the sunnier climes to fulfil a three-year contract as a Racing Manager in Singapore. On his return home, Peter Savill enlisted him to run his courses at Plumpton and Fontwell, but after just a few years in the job David was struck down with the same disease that had cut short his father ’s life in 1994. He fought the cancer for five years, but his friends who saw him present the trophy for his father ’s race here in 2006 knew it would be the last time he would visit his old course. Sadly, in March 2007, their worst fears were realised.

THE DAVID & WILLIAM MCHARG MEMORIAL MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 4) (GBB RACE) RACE DESCRIPTION

This one mile contest for three-years-old and upwards is a maiden stakes - a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory. There are a variety of reasons why the older horses in this race could still be maidens. Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s twoyear-old career.

The hood is discarded and he can get the better of Upper East, who is worth another chance to build on a promising debut effort having switched yards. This is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for threeyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 85 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 80. Leading course trainer (20-25): J Goldie (76 wins from 536 runners, 14%) runs ALTAREQ and DWINDLING FUNDS Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): A Balding (8 wins from 54 runners, 15%) runs POINT OF CONTACT Longest Traveller: EL MATADOR trained by R Beckett, Kimpton Down, 400 miles.

This is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb. RACE STATISTICS

Fiona Murdoch, Group Finance Director will present a memento to the winning owner. In addition, they will present a cash prize to the person in charge of the horse judged to be the best turned out. Owners Prize Money. Winner £4170; Second £2086; Third £1042; Fourth £521; Fifth £261. (Penalty Value £5286.34)

This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 66 to 85. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.

This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for threeyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 55 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 50.
