Good afternoon and welcome to our Sodexo Live! Raceday, the first of four fixtures staged at Hamilton Park throughout June.
We have a great afternoon of racing ahead of us with competitive fields set to compete for prize money of over £82,000 across today’s seven races. This is part of our continued commitment to prize money and the quality of the racing we stage here at Hamilton Park, with total prize money set to exceed £1.74M for our centenary season.
My thanks go to all of today’s sponsors and partners; Sodexo Live!, Morton Fraser MacRoberts LLP, Weatherbys, Aspire Cleaning & Facilities as well as our very own on-site Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park Hotel. The hotel bar is open and accessible to all racegoers during and after our racedays, so please do pay them a visit if you’d like a drink or two throughout the day
Our long-standing catering partner, Sodexo Live! are our headline sponsor today and are the team behind the fantastic food and drink offerings around the racecourse The Sodexo Live! team are a key part of everything we offer here at Hamilton Park, not only on our racedays but also for the wide range of events that we host out with our fixtures, so if you’re looking for the perfect wedding venue, corporate event, Christmas party, outdoor events or any other event then please do get in touch.
Today’s feature race is the Weatherby’s Digital Solutions Clyde Handicap at 3.51pm which is a Class 2 sprint contest over six furlongs worth £30,000 in prize money, making it the highest class of race and the highest prize money on offer for any race in the UK today (excluding Ireland).
William Haggas runs Eternal Force who is at the top of the weights and will be ridden by Tom Marquand, whilst Karl Burke runs two-time Hamilton Park winner Botanical in the familiar yellow silks of the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid. Theoryofeverything is the other course and distance winner in the field for trainer David O’Meara, who will be looking for a return to the form that saw him secure wins at Ascot and Ayr having won the Scottish Trophy Handicap here in August 2024.
June is a very busy month for us with our fixtures coming thick and fast Next up we have evening racing on Wednesday 10 June as well as an afternoon fixture on Wednesday 17 June when we race alongside Royal Ascot. This year’s Indigo Unified Comms Saints & Sinners Racenight takes place on Thursday 25 June which will feature an amazing tribute to music from the 80’s and 90’s.
Once we get into July we have some of our most popular fixtures of the season including our Jordan Electrics Glasgow Stakes Centenary Racenight ft Tide Lines on Friday 17 July, where we will run two of our most prestigious races of the season in the Jordan Electrics Scottish Stewards Cup and the EBF Glasgow Listed Stakes which will be run for a record £80,000 prize fund. We will also be continuing our 100-year centenary celebrations at this fixture so it’s definitely a racenight not to be missed. Tickets are available online for all of our fixtures with some great savings to be made when you buy in advance via our website www.hamilton-park.co.uk, with no booking fees applied to your ticket purchase.
Have a fantastic afternoon and I hope you back a few winners!
Kind regards

Racing Jargon Buster
Do not be put off by the weird terms you may hear on the racetrack. Like any traveller in a strange country, the novice racegoer will soon pick up a smattering of the language, and then rapidly become fluent. The following might help those racegoers keen to enhance their language skills.
ACCUMULATOR bet involving two or more selections in different races: winnings from one are placed on the next
ALLOWANCE is the weight concession the horse is given to compensate for its rider’s inexperience
ALL WEATHER RACING flat racing which takes place on an artificial surface
AMATEUR (rider) on racecards, their names are prefixed by Mr, Mrs, Captain, etc., to indicate their amateur status
APPRENTICE young jockey tied by annually renewed contract to a licensed trainer while he or she is learning the business of race-riding
BACKWARD used of a horse which needs time to mature
CLAIMER of a race: a claiming race; of a jockey: an apprentice COLT male, ungelded horse up to four years old
COURSE SPECIALIST horse which tends to run well at a particular track
DAM mother of a horse
DISTANCE the length of a race: 5 furlongs is the minimum and the 4 1⁄2 miles of the Grand National the longest. Also, the margin by which a horse wins or is beaten by the horse in front: this ranges from a short head to ‘by a distance’ (more than 30 lengths); a ‘length’ is measured from the horse’s nose to the start of its tail
DISTANCE an unmarked point 240 yards from the winning post (thus ‘below the distance’ means closer home than that point)
DRAW for flat racing only, describes a horse’s position in the starting stalls, drawn randomly the day before
EVENS or EVEN MONEY when your stake exactly equals your winnings - thus £5 at evens wins a further £5
FILLY female horse up to four years old
FOAL horse of either sex from the time of its birth until 1 January the following year
FURLONG 220 yards (one eighth of a mile)
GELDING castrated horse
GOING the description of conditions underfoot on the racecourse. Official Jockey Club going reports progress as follows: Heavy - soft - good to soft - good - good to firm - firm - hard

JOLLY betting parlance for the favourite in a race - the horse with the shortest odds
JUDGE official responsible for declaring the finishing order of a race and the distances between the runners
JUVENILE two-year-old horse
MAIDEN horse which has not won a race
MARE female horse five years and over
MONKEY betting parlance for £500
ODDS ON odds where the winnings are less than the stake (which is of course returned to you): thus a winning £2 bet at 2-1 on wins you £1
OFF THE BIT/OFF THE BRIDLE describes a horse being pushed along by his jockey, losing contact with the bit in his mouth
ON THE BIT/ON THE BRIDLE describes a horse going well within himself, still having a grip on the bit
OVER THE TOP where a horse is said to have gone if he has passed his peak for the season

PENALTY weight added to the allotted handicap weight of a horse which has won since the weights were originally published
PHOTO FINISH electronic photographic device which determines minimal distances in a close finish
PLATE shoe worn by horse for racing
PONY betting parlance for £25
RULE 4 betting rule covering deductions made from winning bets if a horse is withdrawn after the betting market has been formed but before the ‘Under Starter’s Orders’ signal; the amount deducted depends on the price of the withdrawn horse
RUN FREE describes a horse going too fast, usually early in the race, to allow it to settle
SCOPE the potential for physical development in a horse
SIRE father of a horse
SPREAD A PLATE when a racing plate or horseshoe becomes detached from an animal’s hoof, this sometimes causes a delay while the horse is re-shod

YANKEE combination bet involving four selections in different races: six doubles, four trebles and one four-horse accumulator - eleven bets
YEARLING horse of either sex from 1st January to 31st December of the year following its birth
Sir Ian Good Memorial Sculpture
Commissioned in 2026 to mark Hamilton Park’s 100th year of racing, this memorial sculpture honours the late Sir Ian Good in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Hamilton Park, Scottish Racing, and the racing industry as a whole.
Sir Ian served on the Board from 1990 and as Chairman from 1999 until his passing in 2023. Under his leadership, Hamilton Park developed into one of the UK’s leading independent racecourses, including the addition of the on-site Hampton by Hilton hotel in 2019. He also played a key role nationally as founding Chairman of Scottish Racing, and held senior positions with the Racing Foundation, the Tote, and the Jockey Club.
In collaboration with the Good family, the sculpture has been created by renowned sculptor Michael Turner who specialises in creating unique, handcrafted artwork using marine grade stainless steel. With the working title of ‘A Dynamic Force’, each individual panel of stainless steel has been shaped by hand to create a sculpture that embodies the energy and excitement of horse racing, showcasing the power and grace of the horse in motion alongside the unique harmony that exists between horse and jockey.
Located between the Hampton by Hilton Hotel and the Sir Ian Good Grandstand, this sculpture stands as a lasting tribute to his vision, leadership, and legacy
The design includes subtle tributes to Sir Ian’s life and legacy, so please do visit the sculpture to see them for yourself.

THE SODEXO LIVE! 2YO SERIES EBF MAIDEN FILLIES’ STAKES
(CLASS 4) (HAMILTON PARK 2YO SERIES QUALIFIER) (GBB RACE)
RACE DESCRIPTION
This race is a six furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-old fillies. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.
RACE STATISTICS
Leading course trainer (20-25): K Ryan (27 wins from 134 runners, 20%) runs ANGELS PASSING
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): K R Burke (10 wins from 47 runners, 21%) runs LITTLE LADY KAREN
Longest Traveller: MEENNAA trained by A Watson, Upper Lambourn, 367 miles.
BETTING FORECAST: 2-1 Meennaa (IRE), 5-2 Angels Passing (IRE), 3-1 Little Lady Karen (GB), 11-2 Jazz Queen (IRE)
RACE SUMMARY: ANGELS PASSING shaped well in the face of a stiff task on her debut when running on late into fourth in a York Listed event and looks the way to go here with this step up to 6f looking a big plus too. Meennaa also has better days ahead of her judged on her promising debut second at Kempton and is next best, although a market move for Karl Burke’s Dark Angel newcomer Little Lady Karen would put a different slant on things.

THE MORTON FRASER MACROBERTS LLP HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5)
RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
RACE STATISTICS

Eternal Force and Botanical renew rivalry, having clashed in the Lincoln on reappearance, a race in which the former finished seventh, around a length off the latter. William Haggas’ four-year-old had looked progressive at three, winning a novice at Redcar and handicaps at both Newbury and Haydock. He might not have been ideally positioned (caught wide) and shouldimprovefortherun.
Botanical has since disappointed at Newmarket, where he raced keenly, and Karl Burke’s Lope de Vega sixyear-old will need to settle better. In this smaller field, it will be interesting to see if he is allowed to stride on, althoughitisnowmorethantwoyears since his latest win. He is, however, unbeatenintwovisitstoHamilton.

THE WEATHERBYS GLOBAL STALLIONS HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4)
RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile, one furlong and 35 yards handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 80 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 75.

RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile and 68 yards handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 86 to 105. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a five furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage

THE HAMPTON BY HILTON HAMILTON PARK HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6)
RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile, four furlongs and 15 yards handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55.
