A warm welcome to you all this afternoon and thank you for joining us for our Sky Bet Sunday Series Raceday as we continue our 100-year centenary season here at Hamilton Park.
Today is our richest raceday of the season with £215,500 in prize money up for grabs across seven races, which also makes it the richest raceday being staged in the UK today. The Sky Bet Sunday Series is a great initiative, and our continued thanks go to Sky Bet as well as the British Horse Racing Authority, Racecourse Media Group and ITV Racing as we stage this fixture for our fifth consecutive season. It has become a valued part of our fixture list which we hope will continue for many seasons to come Particular thanks also go to all of the Owner’s, Trainer’s, Jockey’s and Stable Staff for their support of today’s fixture as we welcome the cameras from ITV Racing who will be broadcasting all of today’s live action.
With plenty of runners this afternoon we’re sure to be treated to some extremely competitive racing, with full or near full fields in five of the seven races. The Sky Bet Build A Bet Handicap (Class 3, 5f) at 5.15pm looks set to be a fast and furious race over our shortest distance, with course specialist Jordan Electrics at the top of the weights for our Champion Trainer Jim Goldie. However, it’s likely to be a hotly contested race with Station X, Vince L’Amour, Woohoo and Little Mi Mi all coming into this race with winning form. We could also see history being made in this race as Jordan Electrics will be going for his 10th career win here, which would see him become our winning-most horse ever I wish all of today’s runners and riders the very best of luck.
Away from the on-track action today we’re celebrating Scotland’s culture and heritage with some fantastic music from Stonehouse Pipe Band and Larkhall Youth Pipe & Drums, as well as colourful displays of traditional Highland dancing between races. We also have a bustling Scottish market with many local businesses displaying their products, so please do take the time to explore everything we have on offer around the grounds today
After today we have a short break in our fixtures, before the NFRC Raceday which takes place on Wednesday 27 May, followed by a fixture a week throughout June, culminating with our everpopular Saints & Sinners Racenight on Thursday 25 June. Once we get into July and August we have some of our biggest fixtures of the season, including our Glasgow Stakes Centenary Racenight ft Tide Lines on Friday 17 July, Cube Glass Ladies Night on Saturday 1 August, and the historic Lanark Silver Bell Racenight on Friday 21 August. Tickets are available online for all of our fixtures with some great savings to be made when you buy in advance via our website www.hamilton-park.co.uk
Have a wonderful raceday and I hope you back a few winners!
Kind regards
ASHLEY MOON, RACECOURSE MANAGING DIRECTOR

Do not be put off by the weird terms you may hear on the racetrack. Like any traveller in a strange country, the novice racegoer will soon pick up a smattering of the language, and then rapidly become fluent. The following might help those racegoers keen to enhance their language skills.
ACCUMULATOR bet involving two or more selections in different races: winnings from one are placed on the next
ALLOWANCE is the weight concession the horse is given to compensate for its rider’s inexperience
ALL WEATHER RACING flat racing which takes place on an artificial surface
AMATEUR (rider) on racecards, their names are prefixed by Mr, Mrs, Captain, etc., to indicate their amateur status
APPRENTICE young jockey tied by annually renewed contract to a licensed trainer while he or she is learning the business of race-riding
BACKWARD used of a horse which needs time to mature
CLAIMER of a race: a claiming race; of a jockey: an apprentice COLT male, ungelded horse up to four years old
COURSE SPECIALIST horse which tends to run well at a particular track
DAM mother of a horse
DISTANCE the length of a race: 5 furlongs is the minimum and the 4 1⁄2 miles of the Grand National the longest. Also, the margin by which a horse wins or is beaten by the horse in front: this ranges from a short head to ‘by a distance’ (more than 30 lengths); a ‘length’ is measured from the horse’s nose to the start of its tail
DISTANCE an unmarked point 240 yards from the winning post (thus ‘below the distance’ means closer home than that point)
DRAW for flat racing only, describes a horse’s position in the starting stalls, drawn randomly the day before
EVENS or EVEN MONEY when your stake exactly equals your winnings - thus £5 at evens wins a further £5
FILLY female horse up to four years old
FOAL horse of either sex from the time of its birth until 1 January the following year
FURLONG 220 yards (one eighth of a mile)
GELDING castrated horse
GOING the description of conditions underfoot on the racecourse. Official Jockey Club going reports progress as follows: Heavy - soft - good to soft - good - good to firm - firm - hard
GREEN (of a horse) inexperienced
HAND unit of four inches in which a horse’s height is measured, at the shoulder
JOLLY betting parlance for the favourite in a race - the horse with the shortest odds
JUDGE official responsible for declaring the finishing order of a race and the distances between the runners
JUVENILE two-year-old horse
MAIDEN horse which has not won a race
MARE female horse five years and over
MONKEY betting parlance for £500
ODDS ON odds where the winnings are less than the stake (which is of course returned to you): thus a winning £2 bet at 2-1 on wins you £1
OFF THE BIT/OFF THE BRIDLE describes a horse being pushed along by his jockey, losing contact with the bit in his mouth
ON THE BIT/ON THE BRIDLE describes a horse going well within himself, still having a grip on the bit
OVER THE TOP where a horse is said to have gone if he has passed his peak for the season
PACE ‘up with the pace’ means close to the leaders; ‘off the pace’ means some way behind the leaders
PADDOCK area of the racecourse incorporating the pre-parade ring, parade ring and winner’s enclosure
PATTERN the elite races, divided in Flat racing into Groups One, Two, Three and Listed
PENALTY weight added to the allotted handicap weight of a horse which has won since the weights were originally published
PHOTO FINISH electronic photographic device which determines minimal distances in a close finish
PLATE shoe worn by horse for racing
PONY betting parlance for £25
RULE 4 betting rule covering deductions made from winning bets if a horse is withdrawn after the betting market has been formed but before the ‘Under Starter’s Orders’ signal; the amount deducted depends on the price of the withdrawn horse
RUN FREE describes a horse going too fast, usually early in the race, to allow it to settle
SCOPE the potential for physical development in a horse
SIRE father of a horse
SPREAD A PLATE when a racing plate or horseshoe becomes detached from an animal’s hoof, this sometimes causes a delay while the horse is re-shod
SPRINGER/STEAMER a horse whichshortens dramatically in the betting

WEIGH IN/WEIGH OUT weighing of jockey before and after a race to ensure that the correct weight has been carried; the announcement ‘weighed in’ signals that the result is official, and all bets can be settled
YANKEE combination bet involving four selections in different races: six doubles, four trebles and one four-horse accumulator - eleven bets
YEARLING horse of either sex from 1st January to 31st December of the year following its birth

Commissioned in 2026 to mark Hamilton Park’s 100th year of racing, this memorial sculpture honours the late Sir Ian Good in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Hamilton Park, Scottish Racing, and the racing industry as a whole.
Sir Ian served on the Board from 1990 and as Chairman from 1999 until his passing in 2023. Under his leadership, Hamilton Park developed into one of the UK’s leading independent racecourses, including the addition of the on-site Hampton by Hilton hotel in 2019. He also played a key role nationally as founding Chairman of Scottish Racing, and held senior positions with the Racing Foundation, the Tote, and the Jockey Club.
In collaboration with the Good family, the sculpture has been created by renowned sculptor Michael Turner who specialises in creating unique, handcrafted artwork using marine grade stainless steel. With the working title of ‘A Dynamic Force’, each individual panel of stainless steel has been shaped by hand to create a sculpture that embodies the energy and excitement of horse racing, showcasing the power and grace of the horse in motion alongside the unique harmony that exists between horse and jockey.
Located between the Hampton by Hilton Hotel and the Sir Ian Good Grandstand, this sculpture stands as a lasting tribute to his vision, leadership, and legacy
The design includes subtle tributes to Sir Ian’s life and legacy, so please do visit the sculpture to see them for yourself.

about SIX FURLONGS (6f abt 6yds) (1200m)
RACE DESCRIPTION
This six furlongs Novice Stakes is restricted to two-year-olds but in order to take part all of the runners must meet certain conditions. Unlike a maiden, which is restricted to horses yet to record a victory, winning horses which have run in a maximum of six races are eligible to run. Weights are set according to sex before previous winners are allocated penalties depending on the level at which they have been successful.
Leading course trainer (20-25): T Easterby (25 wins from 208 runners, 12%) runs MIND THOSE STEPS
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (6 wins from 74 runners, 8%) runs MIND THOSE STEPS

RACE SUMMARY: Those with experience don’t set a tall standard so this may be prime for a newcomer, with THIS MOMENT ticking plenty of boxes on paper for the George Boughey yard before market clues. Rebecca Menzies’ only other 2-y-o runner this year maintained his 100% record in last week’s Lily Agnes at Chester, so confidence behind Oh So Slow Sloth would look significant on debut. RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 0 to 85. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
RACE STATISTICS
Leading course trainer (20-25): R & P Fahey (31 wins from 166 runners, 19%) runs HORACE WALLACE

RED SPELLS DANGER faced a simple task in maiden company at Ripon last week but it was still striking how powerfully he travelled tackling 6f for the first time and it’s interesting that David Allan seemingly prefers him to stablemate Go Vince Go, who is 2-2 over C&D and ran a cracker at Chester last week. Dandy Breeze, Marcellinus, Mo of Cairo and Alasrae are others with plenty to recommend them.

ONE MILE about FIVE FURLONGS (13f abt 16yds) (2600m) 4.45p.m.
RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile and five furlongs handicap race for four-yearolds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 90. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 90 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 85.
Leading course trainer (20-25): J Goldie (66 wins from 477 runners, 14%) runs MOUNTAIN ROAD, SPANISH HUSTLE & TROJAN SUN
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): W Haggas (14 wins from 50 runners, 28%) runs VALIANCY
Longest Traveller: PUTAPOUNDINTHEJAR trained by A J Martin, Ireland.

RACE SUMMARY: The 3-y-o handicap at Haydock in September looks the key piece of form here, with RIDE THE THUNDER taken to reverse the placings with Valiancy on 3lb better terms. This slight step up in trip will suit Ghaiyya and she’s also a player in a race that may well be dominated by the 4-y-os.

RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a five furlong handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 90. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb
Leading course trainer (20-25): J Goldie (66 wins from 477 runners, 14%) runs JORDAN ELECTRICS & WOOHOO

RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for three-yearolds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 90. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage
Leading course trainer (20-25): I Jardine (46 wins from 365 runners, 13%) runs SECOND FIDDLE

RACE SUMMARY: SEREN STAR developed a good strike rate in her first year of racing and gets the verdict on her return now back handicapping. ONE MILE about THREE FURLONGS (11f abt 15yds) (2200m) 6.45p.m.
RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile and three furlongs handicap race for fouryear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 80.
