A Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) Parade of former racehorses takes place in the parade ring before the first race at approximately 15.00. They will be in the pre parade ring from 14.40 so please go along and support them.
The parade showcases the versatility of the Thoroughbred, together with the range of activities open to horses when they finish their racing careers. Today’s six-strong parade features some familiar names who have adapted to a new career
RoR, British Horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of horses retired from racing, actively promotes the wellbeing of former racehorses through retraining, rehoming, and welfare support. Their mission is to safeguard the wellbeing of all former racehorses by highlighting Thoroughbred versatility, educating owners, and establishing a nationwide safety net for horses requiring charitable assistance In the equestrian realm, RoR annually stages 39 separate competition series across 14 different disciplines, catering to all levels of ability, from grassroots to elite.

1. CUP FINAL – ridden by Jessica Robinson
16-year-old gelding by Presenting, formerly trained by Ben Haslam & Sarah Dent
Breeder - Mrs C A Moore
Jessica and Cup Final’s retraining journey has only recently started. Cup Final is an ex-J.P. McManus horse trained by Nicky Henderson. After leaving Nicky, he moved into pointing and my partner was given the ride. They had a great success winning 3 of their 6 pointing starts and placing 2nd in the other 3. We were heartbroken to miss out on being able to give him a home straight from racing, but due to things not working in his original home he has now joined us in Peebles to start his retraining journey and hopefully give as much success in the dressage wing as he gave my partner on the track.
2. EASTVIEW BOY – ridden by Sarah Philipa 14-year-old gelding by Iktibas, formerly trained by Philip Kirby Breeder - Eastview Thoroughbreds
Eastview Boy aka Willie, has been with Sarah Philipa for past four years. He was a very successful NH horse for Philip Kirby Racing until 2019 when he retired due to injury. They regularly compete in BD competitions and showing. Eastview Boy has had a very successful showing career over the last two years and has had countless wins and very respectable placings at high profile shows such as RoR Nationals (8th in evening performance), RWHS (3rd RoR open inhand) and BSHA Championship (Reserve champion). They have plans to show again this year and have entries in for RWHS 25. Sarah says “Eastview Boy is my absolute hero and tries his heart out with everything I ask of him.”
3. KEMBOY – ridden by Rachel Sharp
13-year-old gelding by Voix Du Nord, formerly trained by Willie Mullins
Breeders - Joelle Morruzzi and Philippe Morruzzi
Kemboy, the legend, retired after his last win in the Bobby-Jo in February 2023. Following an injury, he came to us in June 2023 and has enjoyed a long break. He is now back in light work, attending training clinics, and is aiming for RoR showing and dressage in the future.
4. ORIENTAL TIGER – ridden by Michelle Duncan
14-year-old gelding by Tiger Hill, formerly trained by Iain Jardine and Mike Smith
Breeder - James Thom And Sons
Michelle has owned Oriental Tiger since he retired from racing in 2019, she retrained him and started competing at local level. Michelle was disheartened with riding after her sister sadly passed. In 2024, Michelle got back at it and registered Oriental Tiger with RoR. They have taken part in local shows and Blair Athol. This year, they have both been working hard, having weekly lessons locally and once a month with Richard Telford to further their progress in the show ring. Their one competition of 2025 is at the end of this month.
5. STATTLER – ridden by Beth Clark
10 year-old gelding by Stowaway, formerly trained by Willie Mullins
Breeder – Cyril O’Hara
Stattler was retired in 2024 and his owner Ronnie Bartlett brought him home to Scotland. Beth, who takes care of Mr Bartlett’s horses, has had the pleasure of re-training Stattler over the past year and has recently started showing him and he has placed on each outing. Stattler is a fine big horse who also loves jumping and with a bit more time, he’ll be aiming to start RoR grassroots eventing next season. Mr Bartlett also enjoys a ride on Stattler in his spare time at home
6. VALYRIAN – ridden by Jordane Duncan
10 year-old gelding by Dansili, formerly trained by Luca Cumani
Breeder – Stuart Stuckey
Valyrian has been with the Duncan family for the last two years. He was super green in most disciplines and had only really been hacked. Jordane and her sister Ellie have worked with him and they have developed a strong beautiful bond with him. Valyrian is the perfect gentleman since day one, he is so honest and kind. So far they have enjoyed Show Jumping, Le TREC, Cross-country and working hunter (qualifying for the Blair International Horse Trials in 2024).

about SIX FURLONGS (6f abt 6yds) (1200m)
This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 66 to 85. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.
Leading course trainer (20-25): J Goldie (57 wins from 439 runners, 13%) runs NATIVE HONEY

The form of Far Above The Law’s Windsor victory is working out very well and he’s feared most, ahead of Alpha Magic who took a big step forward from first run to second and can be forgiven his latest effort. Of the rest, U Sure Do could be an improver on handicap debut.

This is a five furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 95. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

This is a one mile, one furlongs and 35 yards handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage

ONE MILE about THREE FURLONGS (11f abt 15yds) (2200m) 6.45pm
This is a one mile and three furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 59 to 78.
Leading course trainer (20-25): J Goldie (57 wins from 439 runners, 13%) runs CASCADE HALL & SPANISH HUSTLE
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): J Owen (13 wins from 49 runners, 27%) runs HIGH COURT JUDGE
Weightwatcher: GALLANT LION won off a handicap mark of 80, his rating is now down 7lb to 73.

RACE SUMMARY: Plenty are in with a shout but GALLANT LION rates just the pick of the weights on the back of his stylish recent Chepstow success so edges the vote from Golspie who rates a big threat under a 5lb penalty for his emphatic Pontefract victory. Multiple C&D scorer Spanish Hustle is also firmly in the picture along with Glasses Up, Idyllic and Clansman. 1-2-3: 1.GALLANT LION
