WELCOME A warm welcome to our Scullion LAW Lanark Silver Bell Racenight, which is set to be another great evening of high-quality racing and entertainment as we continue to celebrate 100 years of racing here at Hamilton Park. Tonight’s feature race for the Lanark Silver Bell has been a highlight of our racing calendar since 2008 and will be run as a prestigious Heritage Handicap for the fifth time this evening following its upgrade in 2022. This year’s increased prize money of £103,000 will make it the richest race ever to be staged at Hamilton Park, and we eagerly await to see whose name will be etched into the rich history of the Lanark Silver Bell. We are also delighted to have the ancient Lanark Silver Bell on display here for the first time since the pandemic, so do take the time to see this incredible trophy in The Hill Restaurant & Bar. Our new title sponsors for this evening are Hamilton-based Scullion LAW, who are supporting this historic fixture for the first time. Scullion LAW are a leading Scottish law firm with offices in Hamilton, Glasgow and Edinburgh. With expert teams specialising in Criminal Defence, Road Traffic, Family Law, Property Law and Estates and Future Planning, the firm provides practical, compassionate and trusted legal advice that puts people first. We wish Nicholas, the team at Scullion LAW and all of the company’s guests a wonderful evening. We have a full card of valued sponsors this evening including Why Settle IT, Huws Gray, Darley Stallions, European Breeders Fund, Acrisure, Patersons Quarries and Hemmings Homes. Thank you all for your continued support of Hamilton Park and I hope you enjoy your evening with us. At 6.15pm our attentions will focus on our feature race, the Scullion LAW Lanark Silver Bell, where we have a full field set to contest our richest race of the season. This year’s renewal has attracted high-quality horses from across the UK with some familiar course winners taking on highly rated southern raiders. At the top of the weights we have El Burhan and Yabher for George Boughey and William Haggas respectively, whilst the most recent Hamilton Park winner in the field is the Iain Jardine-trained Tiernan, who won here on 1st August. Charlie Johnston runs Elsass, having won the Braveheart Handicap here over 1m 3f back in May, whilst our Champion Trainer Jim Goldie is double-handed with Altareq and Letsbefrank, who comes into this tonight having scooped the £100,000 Sky Bet Sunday Series bonus for the second time following his win at Pontefract on Sunday. Another horse who went very close to winning the Sky Bet Sunday Series Bonus back in 2022 is Evaluation, who returns to the flat for the first time since the Cesarewitch Handicap at Newmarket in 2024 having campaigned over hurdles last year. As many of you will know, Evaluation was owned by our late Chairman Sir Ian Good alongside his daughter Catriona who has entered him this evening. It would certainly be a remarkable and emotional return should he carry their colours to victory tonight. I would like to thank our Owners and Trainers for choosing to run their horses here this evening and for their continued support of our race programme - I wish all of tonight’s connections the very best of luck. After racing we welcome back the ever-popular George Bowie and his GBX Anthems, so grab a glowstick from the team and get your dancing shoes on as he is sure to have the crowd jumping through until 10pm tonight. As we head towards September our season is still going strong with four more fixtures taking us to our season finale, the Maggie’s Goes Racing September Weekend Family Raceday on Monday 28 September. Our next fixture is on Wednesday 2 September for our final evening meeting of the year, with a short break before our fixtures on Sunday 20 and Monday 21 September. Be sure to take advantage of the best prices for tickets on our website at www.hamilton-park.co.uk , as we have some fantastic discounts available when you book in advance with no booking fees applied. Have a great evening and I hope you back a winner or two! Kind regards

Do not be put off by the weird terms you may hear on the racetrack. Sir Ian Good Memorial Sculpture
Commissioned in 2026 to mark Hamilton Park’s 100th year of racing, this memorial sculpture honours the late Sir Ian Good in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Hamilton Park, Scottish Racing, and the racing industry as a whole. Sir Ian served on the Board from 1990 and as Chairman from 1999 until his passing in 2023. Under his leadership, Hamilton Park developed into one of the UK’s leading independent racecourses, including the addition of the on-site Hampton by Hilton hotel in 2019. He also played a key role nationally as founding Chairman of Scottish Racing, and held senior positions with the Racing Foundation, the Tote, and the Jockey Club. In collaboration with the Good family, the sculpture has been created by renowned sculptor Michael Turner who specialises in creating unique, handcrafted artwork using marine grade stainless steel. With the working title of ‘A Dynamic Force’, each individual panel of stainless steel has been shaped by hand to create a sculpture that embodies the energy and excitement of horse racing, showcasing the power and grace of the horse in motion alongside the unique harmony that exists between horse and jockey. Located between the Hampton by Hilton Hotel and the Sir Ian Good Grandstand, this sculpture stands as a lasting tribute to his vision, leadership, and legacy. The design includes subtle tributes to Sir Ian’s life and legacy, so please do visit the sculpture to see them for yourself. 10

THE WHY SETTLE TECHNOLOGY AI ADOPTION EBF MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 3) (HAMILTON 2YO SERIES QUALIFIER) (GBB/GBBPlus RACE) RACE DESCRIPTION
This race is a one mile and 68 yards maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

THE HUWS GRAY BRITISH STALLIONS EBF FILLIES’ HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile, one furlong and 35 yards handicap race for fillies and mares aged three-years-old and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

THE DARLEY EBF NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 2) (GBB/GBBPlus RACE) RACE DESCRIPTION
This contest is a Novice Stakes run over a distance of one mile, three furlongs and 15 yards. There are a variety of reasons why the three-year-olds in this race are still light on experience. Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s two-year-old career.

Iain Jardine-trained Paddy The Squire, under jockey Andrew Mullen, wins the 2025 Lanark Silver Bell Heritage Handicap.
LANARK SILVER BELL Tonight will see the near 1,000 year old Lanark Silver Bell trophy being contested for the seventeeth time in 47 years having been run at Lanark Racecourse until 1977 and being reinstated at Hamilton Park in 2008. 2022 saw the race upgraded to a prestigious Heritage Handicap and with prize money of £100,000. Ashley Moon, Racecourse Managing Director at Hamilton Park said: “It’s fantastic to be able to continue to invest in the Lanark Silver Bell fixture including the Lanark Silver Bell Heritage Handicap worth £103,000 as well as the £40,000 Darley EBF Novice Stakes. We are delighted to have attracted quality fields across this evening’s races. We have always aimed to continue the development of this historic fixture and I can’t wait to see whose name will be added to the history of the Bell.” This evening, we are delighted to have the original Lanark Silver Bell trophy on display within The Hill Restaurant & Bar, giving racegoers the opportunity to get up close and see this iconic piece of Scottish racing history.

The aptly named Record Breaker, trained by Mark Johnston, winning the race in 2009.
THE HISTORY OF THE BELL The Lanark Silver Bell is one of the most ancient Racing Trophies in Britain, yet its origins are disputed. The Bell disappeared without trace for many years. It was rediscovered in 1836 in Lanark Town Council’s vaults when they were in the process of moving to their new offices in Hope Street. Many believed the Bell to have been gifted from King William ‘The Lion’ of Scotland in approximately 1165. If this were the case, the trophy would be the oldest in the world! The Silver Bell was a highly acclaimed race competed for annually at Lanark Racecourse. The old inscriptions on the trophy suggest that Sir Johne Hamilton of Trabovn was one of the first winners, in 1628, to have their name engraved on such a prestigious prize. The last ever running of the Lanark Silver Bell at Lanark Racecourse was in 1977. The winner, Border River was owned and trained by Clifford Watts and ridden by David Nicholls. In 2008, the race was reinstated at Hamilton Park, with the William Haggas trained Tifernati becoming the first winner of the Silver Bell for thirty-one years. This was followed by the aptly named Record Breaker, trained by Mark Johnston, who broke the course record in 2009, giving Johnston Racing their first of five wins under the races previous conditions. Iain Jardine took the win last year with Paddy The Squire, under jockey Andrew Mullen.

LANARK SILVER BELL TROPHY Tonight riders in the Scullion LAW Lanark Silver Bell Handicap are competing for one of the oldest sporting prizes in existence. Legend has it that the original trophy was presented as a gift to the people of Lanark by King William ‘The Lion’ in 1165. In 2012, the racecourse unveiled a new Silver Bell Trophy to complement the original piece, handcrafted by Edinburgh jewelers and warrant holders to His Majesty the King, Hamilton & Inches. Completed after a detailed six month design process, the 100% sterling silver trophy reflects many of the hallmarks of the original artifact, which has now become too valuable to be presented to winners. With that in mind, the Hamilton Park team decided to make a new trophy with a refreshed contemporary feel, to sit alongside the ancient relic. Ashley Moon, Racecourse Managing Director said: “We are immensely proud to have been able to commission the new Silver Bell Trophy and present it to the winner of this historic race. The original trophy is steeped in history, representing such a great part of Lanarkshire’s rich and vibrant heritage, which was the main motivation behind working to preserve its legacy for many generations to come. The trophy’s creation process was an intensive one, ensuring we paid particular attention to many of the trophy’s original features while adding some contemporary flair.” Frank Gunning, Former Chair of the Royal Burgh of Lanark Community Council said: “Everyone in Lanark is hugely pleased at the continued success of the meeting and the Lanark Silver Bell Handicap. We are grateful to Hamilton Park Racecourse for investing towards the future of the trophy, enshrining its legacy for many years. It’s a great idea to allow owners to celebrate with the new trophy after winning the race, as well as becoming an eternal part of the Silver Bell’s story when their name is scribed into a winning shield.”

This race is a one mile, four furlongs and 15 yards handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races. Leading course trainer (20-25): J Goldie (77 wins from 540 runners, 14%) runs ALTAREQ & LETSBEFRANK Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): D O’Meara (8 wins from 52 runners, 15%) runs ASHNAK & STRASSIA Fancy That: I Jardine won this race in 2017 and 2025. The step back up in trip should suit and he’s preferred to Tiernan, who won a novice here 20 days ago and should prove suited by this longer trip. FOR THREE YRS OLD AND UPWARDS NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 13
RACE STATISTICS
The Directors of Acrisure have very generously sponsored this race and will present a memento to the winning owner. In addition, they will present a cash prize to the person in charge of the horse judged to be the best turned out. Owners Prize Money. Winner £8126; Second £4064; Third £2032; Fourth £1016; Fifth £508; Sixth £254. (Penalty Value £10308)
This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 90 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 85.

FOR THREE YRS OLD AND UPWARDS NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 11
RACE STATISTICS
Tom Paterson & Corrine Paterson, Directors of Patersons Quarries have generously sponsored this race and will present a Memento to the Winning Owner. A cash prize will also be presented to the person in charge of the best turned out horse in this race Owners Prize Money. Winner £4170; Second £2086; Third £1042; Fourth £521; Fifth £261. (Penalty Value £5286.34)
This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb. Leading course trainer (20-25): J Goldie (77 wins from 540 runners, 14%) runs ABDUCTION, ASHEN & JANNAS JOURNEY Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (5 wins from 84 runners, 6%) runs STIRRUP CUP Weightwatcher: SHOOT TO KILL won off a handicap mark of 80, his rating is now down 6lb to 74. THE PATERSONS OF GREENOAKHILL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4) (DIV II) FOR THREE YRS OLD AND UPWARDS NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 10
RACE DESCRIPTION
Some races can often prove very popular with owners and trainers and as a result more horses are declared to run than the official safety limit allows for. To avoid horses being denied a run which is obviously disappointing for connections, the British Horseracing Authority has allowed the previous race to be split into two divisions, with each contest carrying identical race conditions.
RACE STATISTICS
Leading course trainer (20-25): J Goldie (77 wins from 540 runners, 14%) runs DANDY MAGIC & MONTEZUMA Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): D O’Meara (8 wins from 52 runners, 15%) runs LORD BERTIE Weightwatcher: MIRACULOUS won off a handicap mark of 81, his rating is now down 7lb to 74. Longest Traveller: CITY CAPTAIN trained by H Bethell, Arnold, 249 miles.

City Captain has been absent for a few months but his form in the spring would give him a major shout here, with Miraculous also respected on the back of a recent all-weather success. 1-2-3: 1.DANDY MAGIC (IRE) 2.CITY CAPTAIN 3.MIRACULOUS (IRE) STEWARDS NOTE: CITY CAPTAIN: Following its run on 9/5/2026 it was reported that the horse ran too free.

8.15pm
THE HEMMINGS HOMES 10TH ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.
