TUESDAY 13 AUGUST 2024

Sunday

WELCOME

Welcome everyone to Hamilton Park for our McEwan Grant Ltd Scottish Trophy Racenight, where we have some excellent racing ahead of us throughout the evening.

A big thank you to our new title sponsors this evening, McEwan Grant Ltd, who specialise in joinery, partitions, ceilings and protection works in the retail and construction site sectors. Your sponsorship is very much appreciated and helps to support our investment in prize money and the overall Hamilton Park experience We would also like to thank this evening’s other sponsors, The European Breeders Fund, Robbie MacKay and the friends of Brien Ross, as well as our very own on-site Hampton by Hilton Hotel, which is such a wonderful part of the Hamilton Park resort. If you’ve not done so yet, please do pay the team a visit and enjoy a drink, a meal or of course an overnight stay to make the most of your visit to Hamilton Park.

Tonight’s feature race, the Class 3 McEwan Grant Construction Scottish Trophy Handicap Stakes at 7pm, has a strong field of eleven runners who will be hoping for a share of the £24,000 prize fund. It should be a compelling contest having been targeted by trainers from Newmarket, Yorkshire and of course Scotland.

Joe Fanning teams up with Saeed Bin Suroor as he takes the ride on Arctic Mountain in the famous Godolphin silks at the top of the weights, whilst the in-form Iain Jardine runs Paddy The Squire who placed second to Postileo in the 2023 running of the Lanark Silver Bell. Good Morning Alex is the only course and distance winner in the field and comes into today’s race having won twice at Hamilton Park already this season, so I’m sure David and Nicola Barron will be hoping for a strong showing this evening.

It’s just ten days until our last Friday evening race meeting of the season, the Phoenix Utilities Lanark Silver Bell on Friday 23 August, where the race for the historic Lanark Silver Bell takes centre stage With prize money of £100,000 on offer, it is the richest race to be staged at Hamilton Park this year and is a real highlight of our season. We also see the welcome return of legendary DJ George Bowie and his GBX Anthems, who will be taking to the stage after the racing action has finished. If you haven’t got your tickets yet there are still some on sale at www.hamilton-park.co.uk. It is set to be another historic night, and one not to be missed!

Have a wonderful evening and I hope you back some winners!

Kind regards,

RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a five furlongs apprentice handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (19-24): I Jardine (35 wins from 289 runners, 12%) runs MOONSTONE BOY

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): I Jardine (5 wins from 30 runners, 17%) runs MOONSTONE BOY

Weightwatcher: STRONG JOHNSON won off a handicap mark of 79, his rating is now down 7lb to 72.

BETTING FORECAST: 9-4 Strong Johnson (IRE), 5-2 Holbache (GB), 11-4 Refuge (GB), 17-2 Moonstone Boy (IRE), 20-1 Game Breaker (IRE)

THE EBF RESTRICTED MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 4)

(FOR HORSES IN BANDS C AND D)(EBF QUALIFIER) (GBB RACE)

RACE DESCRIPTION

This race is a six furlongs restricted maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking

ONE MILE, ONE FURLONG about 35 YARDS (9f abt 35yds) (1800m)

RESTRICTED MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5) (FOR HORSES IN BANDS B, C AND D)

RACE DESCRIPTION

This one mile, one furlong and 35 yards contest for three to five-year-olds is another restricted maiden stakes - a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory. There are a variety of reasons why the older horses in this race could still be maidens. Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile

or injury

curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s two-year-old career

THE MCEWAN GRANT CONSTRUCTION SCOTTISH TROPHY HANDICAP STAKES

RACE DESCRIPTION

(CLASS 3)

This is a one mile, one furlong and 35 yards handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 90 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 85.

RACE STATISTICS

THE MCEWAN GRANT CONSTRUCTION & RETAIL JOINERY HANDICAP STAKES

RACE DESCRIPTION

(CLASS 4)

This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 59 to 78. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

RACE STATISTICS
