A very warm welcome to you all for our Maggie’s Goes Racing Family Raceday, our penultimate fixture of what has been a fantastic 2023 season so far here at Hamilton Park.
Our title sponsors today are Maggie’s, which is a charity that provides free support and care for those dealing with cancer This wonderful charity provides an incredible range of support from their eight care home’s across Scotland, with their nearest facility based at the Elizabeth Montgomerie Building at Monklands Hospital in Airdrie The team from Maggie’s are around the course today so please do take the time to speak to them and make a donation if you possibly can to support this very worthy charity.
A huge thank you goes to all of today’s sponsors; Maggie’s, the European Breeders Fund, Sharles Chartered Accountants, Alexander Braidwood & Sons, Saucer Solutions, Bardykes Farm Nursery School and Racing TV for their support of today’s racing. Your sponsorship is very much appreciated and enables us to be able to continue to offer record levels of prize money as well as invest in the overall development of the racecourse I hope you and all of your guests have a great day with us.
We have an action-packed afternoon of racing ahead of us with some extremely competitive fields across the card. With our champions for the season due to be crowned next week, the race for the Owner’s title is certainly hotting up At the time of writing, John Toes & John O’Loan are leading the championship and have two-time course and distance winner Ganesha due to run in the Class 4 Sharles C.A. Nursery Handicap at 2.55pm. However reigning Champion Owner Jimmy Long is still within touching distance of another title and is double-handed today with Banner Road in today’s first race and Jaminoz in the Bardykes Farm Nursery School Handicap at 4.40pm. I wish all of today’s runners, riders and connections the very best of luck.
As usual on a family day here at Hamilton Park, we have a huge range of free kids entertainment on the lawns for all to enjoy throughout the afternoon. Family days play a big part in our season and it’s always great to welcome the future fans of our wonderful sport.
We’re back racing again for our Season Finale on Monday 2 October and so I do hope to welcome some of you back in a weeks’ time Advanced discount tickets are available at www.hamilton-park.co.uk and as always under 18s get FREE admission.
Have a great day and be lucky!

This is a one mile handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

THE HAMILTON PARK RACECOURSE EBF RESTRICTED MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 4) (FOR HORSES IN BANDS C AND D) (EBF RESTRICTED
This race is a six furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

A nursery is a handicap that is restricted to two-year-olds only In order to be allowed to take part, entrants must have already run in three maiden or novice races, or have won two races, which then qualifies them for an official handicap rating based on what they have achieved so far. Quite simply, the higher their rating, the bigger the weight they have to carry. This particular five furlongs race is for horses which have been rated from 0 to 85.

This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for sixyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

This is a one mile and one furlong handicap race for threeyear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 49 to 68. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage

This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60.
