FIXTURES
Monday 25th September
Monday 2nd October
THANK
Good afternoon and welcome to our USAVE Utility Contracts Raceday, the first of two fantastic days of racing here at Hamilton Park.
My thanks go to all of today’s sponsors – USAVE Utility Contracts, who are our title sponsors today, the European Breeders Fund, Stein Electrical & Mechanical Solutions Ltd, David Cairns and Family, The Village Tavern, McEwan Grant Construction & Retail Joinery Contractors. Your sponsorship is very much appreciated and enables us to be able to continue to offer the record levels of prize money available this season as well as invest in the overall development of the racecourse We also welcome students from across the central belt of Scotland who join us today, many for the first time, through the Invades initiative. I hope all of our valued partners and guests here with us this afternoon have a great time
We’ve got seven competitive races scheduled this afternoon with today’s feature race, the USAVE Business Energy Specialist Fillies’ Handicap due off at 4pm. This is a Class 4 contest over six furlongs with three of today’s six runners holding two wins apiece over course and distance this season. Iain Jardine’s Giselles Izzy and the Tristan Davidson-trained Iris Dancer both claimed a win here on their last outing at the beginning of September while Slainte Mhath scored twice earlier in the summer for Katie Scott I’m sure their respective connections will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of wins in 2023 today
Once the racing action has finished, we are delighted to be welcoming 80’s TV presenter and radio icon Pat Sharp, who will be spinning some of his all-time favourite tunes which are guaranteed to keep the party atmosphere going. Pat will take to the decks in the Parade Ring Marquee after the last race where the bar will be open until 7.15pm, so do head over and join the after-party!
We’re back racing again tomorrow with our Maggie’s Goes Racing September Weekend Family Raceday. We’ll have all of our usual FREE kids’ entertainment, making this the perfect day out for the whole family this holiday Monday It’s not too late to grab a discounted ticket to join us tomorrow so I do hope to see some of you again. Tickets are available at www.hamiltonpark.co.uk and as always under 18s get FREE admission.
Have a great day and I hope you back a winner or two.
Kind regards,

This five furlongs Novice Stakes is restricted to two-yearolds but in order to take part all of the runners must meet certain conditions. Unlike a maiden, which is restricted to horses yet to record a victory, winning horses which have run in a maximum of six races are eligible to run. Weights are set according to sex before previous winners are allocated penalties depending on the level at which they have been successful.

This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 58. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

Selling Stakes exist as an outlet for connections to sell their horses. Any horse that wins a seller, such as this one mile and one furlong contest for three, four and five-year-olds only, is automatically put up for public auction in the Winners’ Enclosure at the end of the race and goes to the highest bidder, so make sure to head that way after the race as the auction is usually well worth seeing.

This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards fillies and mares only which have been rated from 61 to 80. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 53 to 72. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

This is a one mile and three furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds only which have been rated from 51 to 70.
Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage
Leading course trainer (17-22):

RACE SUMMARY: BARROLO has proved a different proposition having been gelded and switched to handicaps this year, winning 4 times and shaping well in the circumstances when third at Newcastle on his latest outing. This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for fouryear-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 60.
Leading course trainer (17-22): J Goldie (38 wins from 346 runners, 11%) runs AIGHEAR and TAFSIR
Trainer-in-form (last 14 days):
C Johnston (10 wins from 76 runners, 13%) runs ASK PETER
Longest Traveller: BLACK SMOKE trained by D M Loughnane, Kidderminster, 290 miles.
BETTING FORECAST: 11-8 Kells (IRE), 5-1 Black Smoke (IRE), 13-2 Tafsir (USA), 15-2 Aighear (GB), 12-1 Ask Peter (FR), 16-1 Ebony Maw (GB), 25-1 Heatherdown Hero (GB)
RACE SUMMARY: KELLS is unpenalised for his wide-margin success at Thirsk 6 days ago and, if the race doesn’t come too soon, he should be capable of following up. Black Smoke makes his second start for a new yard and looks the likeliest to capitalise if the selection fluffs his lines and Tafsir is no forlorn hope returning to a more suitable grade.
