T U E S D AY 8 S E P T E M B E R OFFICIAL PROGRAMME
WELCOME TO AUTUMN RACING P R E S E N T E D BY V I R G I N BE T Welcome to Autumn Racing presented by Virgin Bet. Today’s racecard consists of seven races, covering distances from five furlongs to two miles. The Royal Sussex Regiment EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes is the most valuable race of the day worth £40,000. Alongside the action on the track, we have live music on the Earl’s Lawn between races. Willow Avenue will perform seasonal sounds with their acoustic mix of jazz, folk and blues music. Goodwood’s proud and historic association with the Royal Sussex Regiment, whose officers, together with the Third Duke of Richmond, laid down the foundations for racing here on the South Downs in the early 1800s, is celebrated with the running of the Royal Sussex Regiment EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes. We welcome with great pleasure today the members of the Royal Sussex Regiment Association. We extend our sincere thanks to all our partners, especially Virgin Bet, the European Breeders’ Fund and Cleansing Service Group, for their generous support of today’s racing. Join us again on Wednesday 23 September for another mid-week event and on Sunday 11 October for the Season Finale presented by Virgin Bet. Our final fixtures are set to be a charming end to the spectacular season at Goodwood Racecourse. On behalf of everyone at Goodwood, thank you for joining us this afternoon.
The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, CBE DL Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse

THE COURSE c o u r se c h a r a c t er i s t i c s Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

RACE SUMMARY This appears to be an excellent opportunity for NAJIDI STORM to follow up his debut success at Kempton under a 7lb penalty. A full-brother to St Leger winner Logician, he got the better of Gavriel, who gave the form a decent boost at Ascot on Saturday and now heads the betting for the Cambridgeshire. The other pair have a lot to find, with Wreck It Ronnie preferred to Dream Of Albion in the battle for second.

RACE SUMMARY Noble Traveller made a promising start when just denied in a valuable conditions race for newcomers at Deauville and the booking of Ryan Moore enhances his credentials. That said, there was plenty to like about QUICKEN AWAY’s debut when beaten a neck at Newbury after showing signs of inexperience. The son of Frankel made up a lot of ground in the closing stages and is marginally preferred. Speyside is better judged on his third here rather than his showing in the Convivial at York, while any market support for newcomer Momentsofsurrender would make him of significant interest.

2025: NO CORRESPONDING RACE LAST YEAR
SORRENGAIL got off the mark at Ascot on her second attempt before pulling too hard when beaten less than a length at Newbury. The application of a hood is likely to calm her down and the extra furlong is likely to bring about improvement based on her pedigree. Al Samsama made a winning debut at the Berkshire venue in July and is likely to step forward for going up in trip, while China In Your Hand is capable of bouncing back after a below-par effort in the Sweet Solera at Newmarket.

RACE FOUR
A tough handicap for punters to solve and a tentative vote is for JAX EDGE, who showed a lot more when second at Nottingham and has a big chance if building on that improved effort. Over Spiced performed well here 11 days ago when grabbing second ahead of the reopposing Kiss And Run and both are respected, as is Spring Bloom.

RACE SUMMARY HELLO COTAI is turned out quickly here under a 5lb penalty following last week’s Epsom success and, given the manner of that victory, the five-year-old ought to go very close assuming he arrives in the same form and this doesn’t come too quick. Blue Wonder struggled to land a telling blow at Leicester but is respected on the evidence of her previous Haydock win, while Decalogue is another to bear in mind.
