Goodwood Racecard - Tuesday 2nd September

TUESDAY 2 SEPTEMBER

OFFICIAL PROGRAMME

WELCOME TO AUTUMN RACING

Welcome to the first Autumn Racing fixture of 2025.

Today’s racecard features seven races, spanning in distances from five furlongs to two miles. We begin with the most valuable race of the day, the £30,000 British EBF Peter Willett Future Stayers’ Maiden Stakes, run over one mile. Followed by the £20,000 Virgin Bet Fillies’ Nursery Handicap Stakes, a race for promising two-year-olds.

Alongside the action on the track, we have Willow Avenue performing on the East Parade Lawn between races. This dynamic duo will set the seasonal tone for the day with their mix of acoustic jazz, folk and blues music.

Goodwood’s proud and historic association with the Royal Sussex Regiment whose officers, together with the Third Duke of Richmond, laid down the foundations for racing here on the Sussex Downs in the early 1800s, is celebrated with the running of the Royal Sussex Regiment Handicap and we welcome with great pleasure today the members of the Royal Sussex Regimental Association.

We extend our sincere thanks to all our partners – especially Virgin Bet, the European Breeders Fund and Cleansing Service Group for their generous support of today’s racing.

Join us on Wednesday 24 September for another midweek event, packed with more action. Furthermore, Season Finale takes place on Sunday 12 October, the final 2025 raceday and is set to be a charming end to the wonderful season at Goodwood Racecourse.

On behalf of everyone at Goodwood, thank you for joining us today. We wish you a successful day and hope to see you again before the season draws to a close.

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, CBE DL Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse

course characteristics

Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.
