Goodwood Racecard - Sunday 8th June

SUNDAY 8 JUNE

WELCOME TO FAMILY RACE DAY

Welcome to Family Race Day, a fabulous afternoon of racing filled with family entertainment, promising a great day out for all.

With seven races on today’s card, including two valuable Listed races, there are several thrilling opportunities for fillies and colts to parade their flair and aptitude on the track.

Our two feature Listed contests are The Weatherbys British EBF Agnes Keyser Fillies’ Stakes at 3:35pm, and The BetGoodwin Tapster Stakes at 4:45pm, each with a total prize fund of £70,000.

Ahead of afternoon racing, two Charles Owen Pony Races will take place. Young jockeys of the future will learn how to handle Goodwood’s unique contours. Though small, these ponies have real power, and the races are certainly no less competitive to those which follow.

We extend our sincere thanks to all our partners, especially Elston Consulting, BetGoodwin, Rod Gaskin Ltd, Weatherbys and the British EBF, for their generous support of today’s racing.

Aside from the racing, we have a variety of family entertainment, including trips to the starting stalls, a talented magician, traditional fairground rides, face painting and a sports zone. Make your way to the Lennox Enclosure to enjoy the activities in-between the races.

We look forward to welcoming you back next week on Friday 13 June, for the second of our Three Friday Nights, where the stage will be set for an electrifying performance by Hot Chip.

On behalf of everyone at Goodwood, thank you for joining us at Family Race Day We wish you a successful day

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, CBE DL Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse

course characteristics

Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

Race preview from Weatherbys

Race four on this afternoon’s card is the feature,theWeatherbys-sponsoredBritishEBF Agnes Keyser Fillies’ Stakes, a Listed event for three-year-oldsoveratripjustshyof1m2f.

The prize has gone to some high-class fillies in recent years, none more so than Great Heavens (2012) and Sea Of Class (2018), the former winning the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock and the Group 1 Irish Oaks at the Curraghonhernexttwostarts.

The race was still staged at Newbury when Great Heavens was successful and that was also the case when Sea Of Class triumphed some seven years ago. William Haggas’ daughter of Sea The Stars also went on to Classic success at the Curragh and
