1.52pm - Gary & Josh Moore are well represented with three runners in this 2-mile handicap for professional jump jockeys. Yellow Star could be well in on his flat mark of 70 after having some decent spells of form over hurdles last season. Nico de Boinvilletakestheride, andhe looks one ofthe more interesting runners. Marble Sands was last seen in the Topham Chase at Aintree where he finished 12th of 30 runners. Today is a very different assignment but a flat mark of 76 looks feasible.
2.27pm - Sing The Blues was the beaten Evens favourite in a Newbury maiden in July. Improvement may be needed for her to get into the winner’s enclosure today, but she looks nicely bred and has to be respected for connections. Mollstar looks the most interesting of the unraced runners. The daughter of Starman will break from stall 4 and the breeding looks speedy Funlover will be worth a market check for trainer Richard Hannon.
3.02pm - Crazee Icon ran a good 2nd last time out at Chester. The winner of that race did not frank the form next time out however and with Crazee Icon going up 3lbs, there may be better value elsewhere. Lucky Hero has had 6 career starts so comes here with plenty of experience. He has run consistently well, and this looks a nice opportunity to gain his first win. Mayaada was a comfortable winner of a 4-runner maiden at Epsom in August. She steps back in class from her last race at Goodwood and looks one for the shortlist, now running off a mark of 78
3.37pm - Toyotomi should find today’s task much easier than the Ayr Gold Cup challenge he faced last time out. He carries top weight today, but he has the class angle and has been running against some high-quality horses this season. Showering won a 6-furlong handicap at Chester on good ground. He runs well up near the pace, and a solid effort is expected from the William Haggas colt today. Thunder Blue steps up in class and an ease in the ground may well help his chances. Aberama Gold is a course and distance winner He breaks from stall 2 and should be up with the pace here. His 4th place effort in the Ayr Silver Cup puts him right in contention, now off a mark 86.
4.12pm - Poseidon’s Warrior ran green and hung left on his debut run last month at Haydock. He is entitled to come on for that run where he finished in 2nd place. Edwin Hubble might have a bit to find on that Haydock form and an improvement is likely needed. Roker Roar looks the most interesting of those making their debut run for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy.
4.47pm - Cerulean Bay won here over course and distance last time out. He goes up 5 lbs but has been running well recently and can defy the rise in the weights. Alpha Crucis will be 3lbs better offtodaywhen he reopposes Cerulean Bay. Mr Chaplin won the Stevenage Handicap at Newmarket in August but is unraced on ground softer than good Knights Gold showed an improvement in form when winning on good to soft ground last time out at Chester. He rises 5lbs in the weights and any ease in the ground should help his chances.
5.22pm - Just Keep Flying is a course and distance winner and the well-bred filly by Justify could be the one to beat making her handicap debut for the Gosden team, with Oisin Murphy taking the ride. Day Of Grace breaks from stall 12 and could benefit from a hot pace here. The Night OfThunder fillywas a comfortable winner on handicap debut and may be ahead of the handicapper with plenty more to come. Ferrari Gold cannot be discounted stepping back up in trip and the form of her last race at Ripon has since worked out well.

Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

HAFEET ALAIN was an impressive winner on his seasonal return at Sandown in May and, given the strength of that form, it would be no surprise to see him score again on his first start since. The recent C&D winner Cerulean Bay is an obvious threat despite a 5lb rise, while his stablemate Theoryofeverything should not be underestimated. The shortlist is completedbyAlphaCrucis,BrightonBoyandNativeAmerican.

DAY OF GRACE had plenty in hand when making a winning handicap debut over a mile at Thirsk last month and William Haggas’ filly is very hard to oppose on the back of that performance, especially as she may improve further for this extra distance. Just Keep Flying is another unexposed filly to consider, while Ferrari Gold edges out Roarin’ Success and LaScanderbeidetobebestoftherest.
