Goodwood Racecard - Saturday 2nd May

Page 1

SATURDAY 2 MAY

OFFICIAL PROGRAMME

WELCOME TO THE SEASON OPENER

Welcome to the second and final day of the 2026 Season Opener presented by Fitzdares.

Following a wonderful start to the season yesterday, we are delighted to round off the fixture with another enjoyable afternoon of racing here on the South Downs.

The highlight of today’s card is the Listed Fitzdares Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes, run over a mile. It’s an important early-season race for fillies aged three and upwards, often paving the way to bigger things later in the summer We also have the addition of the Listed Fitzdares Chelmer Fillies’ Stakes, a six-furlong race for three-year-old fillies.

The rest of the card features several competitive handicaps, including a £45,000 contest over middle distance that promises to be a closely fought and thrilling race.

In The Double Trigger Restaurant today, Goodwood’s own Farmer, Butcher, Chef takes centre stage, celebrating the very best of seasonal spring produce with a menu designed to showcase bold, fresh flavours - perfect for a day at the races.

Our sincere thanks go to all our partners and sponsors, particularly Fitzdares, Elston Consulting, Munro and Highclere Castle Gin for their continued support.

We hope you have enjoyed this year’s Season Opener. Goodwood returns in under three weeks for the May Festival presented by Fitzdares, providing more top-class racing and unforgettable days out. We very much look forward to welcoming you again.

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, CBE DL Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse

course characteristics

Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.
