3 FRID AY NIGHT S.

PRE SEN TE D BY FITZD AR ES FI TZD

WELCOME TO THREE FRIDAY NIGHTS PRESENTED BY FITZDARES

Welcome to the first of our 2026 Three Friday Nights presented by Fitzdares fixtures.

An exciting evening of horseracing awaits, with a six-race all-Apprentice card showcasing some of the sport’s most promising young talent before the celebrations continue into the night with a performance from Sub Focus.

Today’s programme shines a spotlight on the next generation of jockeys. Apprentice races play a vital role in developing future stars of the weighing room, allowing emerging riders to demonstrate their skill, determination and tactical awareness on one of the most distinctive racecourses in the country

The most valuable contest on today’s card is The Fitzdares Apprentice Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes at 5.55pm. Run over a mile, the race offers an exciting opportunity for three to five-year-old fillies to announce themselves on the racing stage. Later in the evening, our feature staying contest, The Goodwood Horseracing Club Membership Apprentice Handicap Stakes at 8.12pm is open to horses aged four years.

Following an evening of competitive racing, the Parade Ring will once again into an open-air dancefloor as we welcome Sub Focus, one of the most influential names in drum and bass.

We are delighted to welcome Fitzdares as Presenting Partner of today’s fixture, alongside Bespoke Law Services and all our other Partners whose continued support helps make evenings such as this possible. We are also honoured to stage the Tommie Jakes Memorial Apprentice Fillies’ Handicap Stakes and the Thelma Horne Memorial Apprentice Handicap Stakes, races that provide a fitting opportunity to remember and celebrate individuals with strong connections to our sport.

We look forward to welcoming you back throughout the season for more fantastic racing at Goodwood, including future Three Friday Nights presented by Fitzdares fixtures on Friday 12 and 19 June and Family Race Day taking place on Sunday 7 June.

course characteristics

Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF TOMMIE JAKES

Tommie was a talented young rider with the world at his feet; he had earned great praise from trainers for his horsemanship and attitude before his passing in October 2025 at the age of 19.

Tommie wanted to be a jockey from when he was tiny. He achieved that dream. He had a big future in front of him, he was talented, worked hard, and was living the life he wanted

Tommie won his first race at the age of sixteen on Suzi’s Connoisseur at Lingfield in March 2023, in his interview he said “it was a dream come true”

In three years, Tommie rode 59 winners and many placings from 519 races, a great achievement for such a young rider, he was particularly effective at Newcastle, 16 wins from 102 rides, and forged strong relationships with trainers such as Michael Attwater, Linda Perratt, Ishmall Mohammad and Brian Meehan

Tommie was loved by many and known for his smile, spirit, kind heart, hard work, dedication, love of racing and big dreams

More than race wins or statistics, Tommie leaves behind memories Trainers and owners who thought of him like family. Fellow jockeys who respected his talent A family who loved him and supported his dreams and racing fans who watched him develop from a raw teenager into a proper talent.

“One of the horses running this evening is Twirler, a mare who gave us a very special day when Tommie rode her to victory at Epsom. That win remains a moment we will always cherish. We wish Twirler the very best of luck tonight and know that Tommie will be cheering her home Everyone at Dare to Dream Racing remembers Tommie fondly and remains grateful for the joy and memories he gave us through his rides and victories in our colours”
