Goodwood Racecard - Friday 1st May

Page 1

FRIDAY 1 MAY

OFFICIAL PROGRAMME

WELCOME TO THE SEASON OPENER

Welcome to the opening day of the 2026 Season Opener presented by Fitzdares; the beginning of another memorable summer on the South Downs.

Across 19 days of racing, we look forward to sharing a season of great sport, style and hospitality. Today’s seven race card marks the welcome return of flat racing to Goodwood, with an afternoon designed to be enjoyed by seasoned racegoers and first-time visitors.

The actions begins with the Racing To School Celebrating 25 Years EBF Restricted Novice Stakes, where a field of two year olds make their racecourse debut over five furlongs – often providing an early glimpse of the stars of tomorrow.

The British Stallion Studs John Dunlop EBF Conditions Stakes follows, run in memory of the late John Dunlop, a trainer closely associated with Goodwood and responsible for many notable successes here.

Our first Listed race of the season, the British Stallion Studs EBF Daisy Warwick Fillies’ Stakes, brings an extra touch of quality to the afternoon, showcasing some of the most promising fillies and mares.

For Season Opener presented by Fitzdares, The Double Trigger Restaurant hosts the first of our special takeovers, as students from Chichester College step into the spotlight. As part of Goodwood’s ongoing partnership with the college, this is a valuable opportunity for aspiring chefs to gain hands-on experience in a live raceday environment. We are delighted to welcome them.

Our sincere thanks go to all our partners and sponsors, including Fitzdares and the European Breeders’ Fund, for their valued support.

We hope you enjoy an entertaining afternoon and we look forward to welcoming guests back tomorrow for day two of Season Opener presented by Fitzdares.

On behalf of everyone at Goodwood, I wish you an enjoyable and successful season ahead.

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, CBE DL Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse
