Welcome to Goodwood for the second of our Midweek Racedays in September, and the penultimate fixture of the 2024 horseracing season here on the South Downs.
This afternoon we are delighted to have the opportunity to stage one of two finals in the British European Breeders’ Fund’s valuable and innovative race series for two-year-olds.
All runners in today’s seven furlongs British EBF £100,000 2YO Fillies’ Series Final have finished in the first six in at least one of more than 150 qualifying races backed by the EBF at racecourses up and down the country, five of which have been staged here at Goodwood this season. The series final for their male counterparts is staged at York next month.
Today’s seven race programme also features the Listed Foundation Stakes run over a distance just shy of a mile and a quarter and won last year by the William Haggas-trained My Prospero ridden by Tom Marquand carrying the Sunderland Holding silks, who last month recorded his first Group level success at Windsor and holds a Group 1 entry at Ascot later this season.
In between races I hope you will enjoy the energetic tunes of the acoustic duo who will be performing throughout the afternoon.
I would like to thank the British European Breeders’ Fund for their continued support of racing here at Goodwood and their fellow race sponsors today, Heineken, Juddmonte, YPO Southern 7 and our Official Fixed Odds Betting Partner, William Hill.
I hope they and you have a pleasant afternoon, and I look forward to seeing you back here for our Season Finale on Sunday 13 October when we can celebrate another successful year of racing at Goodwood.
The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, CBE DL Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse

THE COURSE

Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

Race Summary
Mostawaa justified favouritism in commanding fashion at Epsom on his latest outing and he holds an obvious chance off a 5lb higher mark. However, a chance is taken on ZEALOT, who had Alpha Crucis (fourth) three lengths behind when making the frame over 1m2f here last month Michael Appleby’s six-year-old remains on the same mark and can return to winningways.DoubleTimeisanothertonote.
