GOODWOOD RACES 2024
SATURDAY 24 AUGUST
SATURDAY 24 AUGUST
Welcome to day two of our August Bank Holiday fixture.
Today’s card features the £150,000 William Hill Celebration Mile which has enjoyed Group 2 status since 1977. Its roll of honour boasts many of the outstanding milers of our time including Brigadier Gerard, Kris, Known Fact, Selkirk and Mark Of Esteem.
Today’s feature is supported by the Group 3 William Hill Prestige Fillies’ Stakes for two-year-old fillies won last year by Karl Burke’s Darnation, who continued success in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster the following month and earlier this year landed the German 1,000 Guineas.
Younger racegoers today will find plenty to amuse them with a host of complimentary activities from magicians and face painting to circus tutors and a petting zoo and of course free rides at our traditional fairground.
We thank Juddmonte who join the European Breeders’ Fund in support of our opening race, a qualifier in their important novice two-year-old fillies’ series, our Official Fixed Odds Betting Partner William Hill and you for choosing to spend your day with us here on the South Downs.
The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, CBE DL Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse

course characteristics
Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.
