GOODWOOD RACES 2024
SATURDAY 25 MAY
OFFICIAL PROGRAMME
SATURDAY 25 MAY
OFFICIAL PROGRAMME
Good afternoon and welcome to day two of May Festival.
The highlight of the seven-race card this afternoon features the Listed British Stallion Studs EBF Cocked Hat Stakes. The race was first run in 1970 when the Queen’s horse Charlton was ridden to victory by jockey Joe Mercer. Run for three-year-old colts; a host of up-and-coming equine stars have won this en route to a fruitful summer campaign. Dubai Millennium won the British Stallion Studs EBF Cocked Hat Stakes then went on to win the Dubai World Cup, then the richest race in the world, while Gregory who scored last year trounced his rivals in the Group 2 Queens Vase.
Today’s card is also boosted by the £60,000 Listed William Hill Height of Fashion Stakes. Love Divine and Snow Fairy collected this valuable prize before winning The Oaks at Epsom. In more recent times, the 2022 winner, Sea Silk Road progressed onto Group 1 success in France.
Enjoy visiting your favourite vantage point, getting up close to the horses in the paddock, and watching all the thrilling action on the track.
We very much hope you will be joining us again for racing throughout June. It will feature the return of Three Friday Nights presented by Degen Distillery A fabulous line-up of DJs include the sell-out Craig David, Gok Wan, and Dimitri from Paris.
We are incredibly grateful to the sponsors of today’s racing, the European Breeders’ Fund, Darley and William Hill.

course characteristics
Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.
