Midweek Racing
Good afternoon and welcome to the second of our Midweek racing fixtures.
Taking centre stage on the track today are the Listed Foundation Stakes, won last year by Godolphin’s Royal Fleet, and the British EBF £100,000 2YO Fillies’ Series Final.
This important series comprises of more than 130 races run over distances between five furlongs and a mile at venues all over the country. Each of the runners in today’s final will be fillies who have finished among the first six in at least one of the qualifying races this season. Their male counterparts do battle for an equivalent prize at York next month.
Our features are supported by a variety of competitive handicaps with prize money totalling more than £105,000 and the seven-race programme opens with the Class 2 QIPCO British Champions Series EBF Maiden Stakes worth £30,000.
My thanks go to today’s race sponsors QIPCO British Champions Series, Heineken, the British EBF and our Fixed-Odds Betting Partner, William Hill.
As we prepare for our Season Finale on Sunday 15th October, we can reflect on another stellar season at Goodwood when the weather may not have been its kindest, but the quality of the sport has again been outstanding.
I hope we will see you for the ‘last hurrah’ next month and, in the meantime, I wish you a pleasant afternoon at Goodwood.

Course Characteristics
Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

Race Summary
The well-bred ALIGN THE STARS cost 100,000gns as a yearling and the son of Sea The Stars displayed plenty of promise when second on his debut over an extended mile at Hamilton a month ago. With the benefit of that experience and this step up in trip, Charlie Johnston's colt could be hard to stop. That said, Torrent also put in a promising display on his racecourse bow and he should not be underestimated, while Let's Dream completes the shortlist.

Race Summary
LATTAM was sent off favourite for the Golden Mile when suffering interference at a crucial point, and the four-year-old, who has progressed well this season with victories at the Curragh and Newcastle, boasts strong credentials in his bid to bounce back from that effort. The Gatekeeper was runner-up in the aforementioned event and has since won here, having been awarded a race in the stewards' room at the end of last month. He is respected, while Fox Tal and Rhoscolyn are others likely to be in the mix.

Race Summary
This has already been a rewarding season for Coco Bear and, having been trapped in a pocket when winding up with his challenge at Newmarket when last seen, is a threat to all if he can negotiate a smoother journey from the same mark. However, CAPOTE'S DREAM is equally consistent and, having been cut some slack by the handicapper, he has a live chance of getting back to winning ways from a highly attractive mark. Ultramarine was rated 106 at his best in Ireland and also rates as a contender on these terms.

Race Summary
It's hard to see past MY PROSPERO, a top-class performer who ran well at the highest level before his half-length second in the Group 2 York Stakes last time. The son of Iffraaj now drops into Listed class and he should have too much for this field. The main threat appears to be King Of Conquest, who had Savvy Victory behind him when fourth in the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster and he won't mind the forecast soft ground. Of the remainder, Rousay makes the most appeal after her fourth in the Upavon.

Race Summary
In an open event marginal preference is for the progressive MISS BLUEBELLE, who returned from a 90-day break to win over 1m2f at Bath last month. A 6lb rise for that success demands further improvement from the four-year-old, but she may well be up to defying the extra burden. Arthur's Realm is 1lb lower than when third in a valuable event at Chester last time and he edges out Chips And Rice and One Step Beyond to be best of the rest.

Goodwood Odyssey
2001 bay colt by Ulysses ex Tropicana Bay (Oasis Dream)
Goodwood Odyssey is owned by 125 members of our 29th Scheme. He was purchased for 50,000 Guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales last autumn and is scheduled to make his debut for us this month. His sire, the Cheveley Park Stud stallion Ulysses, is proving a consistent source of winners.
Our colt hails from Meon Valley Stud in Hampshire; one of the most sought-after and successful nurseries in bloodstock. To date, two of his three siblings have won.

Goodwood Vision
2000 bay filly by Oasis Dream ex Redskin Dancer (Namid)
Goodwood Vision is owned by 140 members of our 28th Scheme. She ran three times as two-year-old, including finishing a good 3rd behind Yacowlef (R.93) on her final start of the year in October
Having sustained an abscess in her heel in the spring, her three-year-old campaign was delayed. She has now raced four times at three years of age, including finishing 4th on her last two starts. On her most recent effort at Windsor earlier in the month, she stepped up to 10 furlongs and defied her odds of 33/1 in being a fast-finishing 4th, beaten just 2 ½ lengths by the winner. Hopefully she is a winner waiting to happen!
She is a kind and genuine filly who should have some residual value being by the sought after broodmare sire, Oasis Dream. She will be offered for sale at the autumn Horses in Training Sale.
