Welcome to Goodwood for the second day of our May Festival.

Once again we extend our thanks to our valued Official Fixed Odds Betting Partner, William Hill, who are joined by the British European Breeders’ Fund and Darley as supporters of this weekend’s fixture, which offers more than half a million pounds in prize money.

The Darley EBF Fillies Restricted Novice Stakes is a new addition to the race programme and a brand new industry initiative designed to strengthen British racing and breeding industries by offering enhanced prize money to horses at the beginning of their careers. This aims to ensure that more quality young horses bred in Britain are retained to race here.

Our next meeting on 9 June will be the first of our Three Friday Nights, when DJ Claptone will be entertaining racegoers after an evening of racing staged exclusively for Apprentice riders.

Race Summary

This revolves around Francesco Clemente and whether the unbeaten son of Dubawi is ready to step up to Listed company. The Gosdens have been patient, which has resulted in an unblemished record so far, but he has been off a fair while, whereas EL DRAMA is fit from Dubai. The Roger Varian-trained entire so nearly landed the Jebel Hatta before running with credit in the Dubai Turf, and he actually beat all bar Baaeed in a Group 3 on his only previous Goodwood appearance. King Of Conquest is progressing nicely and deserves a crack at this sort of prize.

Tony was an Annual Member of Goodwood for over 30 years; an avid horseracing fan, this beautiful course was his favourite to visit, so much so that he moved his family from London to West Sussex in 2017 in order to be closer to the action.

The Goodwood Racehorse Owners’ Group was formed in 1994 inviting racegoers at Goodwood to join a horse ownership syndicate. At the May Festival we are holding the Goodwood Racehorse Owners’ Group Handicap Stakes in recognition of almost 30 years of the syndicate, enabling members to enjoy regular social events including stable tours, stud visits, events at Goodwood House and overseas racing holidays.

We are offering one lucky racegoer the opportunity to join us at one of our stable visits to Coombelands Racing Stables (Pulborough) on Wednesday 31 May. The prize is for two people to join us on the gallops as an owner, with lunch and drinks included.
