Opening Weekend Welcome to day two of our Season Opener and a day of National celebration. Today we join the rest of the Commonwealth in celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort with a street party-themed raceday and a host of family entertainment to conclude our Season Opener. There is live music to enjoy throughout the afternoon, Coronation cupcakes and face painting for younger racegoers in addition to top-class racing. Our seven-race card features the Listed Conqueror Stakes, one of three races supported by William Hill who we thank together with the British Racing School and Dementia Support, for their generous contribution to today’s racing. Our next race meeting is the May Festival on 26 and 27 May. We look forward to welcoming many of you back to Goodwood before then for Goodwoof, a celebration of all things dog, on 20 and 21 May. I hope you enjoy today’s celebrations and wish you a wonderful afternoon of racing.

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse

The Course

Course Characteristics Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

2022 WINNER: NOTIONS (IRE) 3 9 2 Saffie Osborne 11-2 (Jamie Osborne) 8 ran

STEWARDS NOTED: BOY BROWNING:Following its run on 27/8/2022 it was reported that the trainer could not explain the poor run.

Race Summary Harry Magnus (first) and Havana Blue (second) are closely matched based on their recent meeting at Newmarket and it would be no surprise to see both go well here. That said, marginal preference is for QUANTUM IMPACT, who improved with every start last year and a mark of 86 may still underestimate Ralph Beckett's colt. The consistent Sharp Power has to be of some interest on his handicap debut, while Boy Browning is another to note.

Race Summary A creditable fourth in last year's 1000 Guineas, ZELLIE never really quite pushed on from that effort, but this represents an ideal opportunity to bounce back to winning ways for new connections. The daughter of Wootton Bassett may have too much for Potapova, who was impressive in the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown on her penultimate start. Runner-up in Listed company at Kempton last month, Lightship is another to consider.

Win: ZELLIE

2022 WINNER: NO CORRESPONDING RACE LAST YEAR

Race Summary Several of these are interesting contenders and the like of Trussst In Me, who debuts for an in-form yard, and Love Is A Rose, who is entitled to improve upon her introduction at Newmarket last October, need to be monitored carefully in the betting. However, Milteye and BISHOP'S CROWN arguably set the standard on form, with the latter shading the nomination given he has a tad more experience. His dam won over this trip on the AW and, with his yard hitting top gear, a bold effort is expected.

2022 WINNER: MOKTASAAB 4 9 1 Callum Shepherd EVENS (William Knight) 6 ran

STEWARDS NOTED: STAY WELL:Following its run on 8/10/2022 it was reported that the horse was found to have bled. HONITON:Following its run on 18/6/2022 it was reported that the horse ran flat. FARASI LANE:Following its run on 7/4/2023 it was reported that the horse was denied a clear run late on. YOUTHFUL KING:Following its run on 19/8/2022 it was reported that the horse ran flat.

Race Summary Maghlaak struck over C&D in September to make it two out of three, and the four-year-old now tackles a handicap for the first time off a possibly lenient mark. However, preference is still for STAY WELL, who can be forgiven his latest effort at York when he bled from the nose. The son of Iffraaj was holding his form quite well prior to that and he goes well fresh. Bad Company was a decisive winner at Epsom and is respected off 5lb higher.

Win: STAY WELL

Danger: Maghlaak

Race Summary TUDDENHAM GREEN remains relatively unexposed on the Flat and arrives in this following a creditable second over 2m at Nottingham last month. He is rated 2lb higher for that run, but this represents a drop in class for Alan King's four-year-old and he can post his best effort to date in this sphere. Tibbie Dunbar steps back up in trip following a decent fourth at Bath last time out and is fancied to go well, while Anisoptera can also make her presence felt.

SIMPLE MAN:Following its run on 22/10/2022 it was reported that the horse was heavily bumped early on.

Race Summary A small but open contest, in which the vote goes to SAFARI DREAM. He was progressive last season, winning all three of his handicap starts (the latest from 2lb lower), before achieving a midfield finish in a valuable sales race at Newmarket. Drawn well in stall six, he can make a successful return to action, though recent Nottingham scorer Umming N' Ahing ought to provide a stern challenge. Simple Man is another who merits serious consideration.

RACE SEVEN

Race Result

Race Summary Johnjay made a successful handicap debut at Bath last month and he merits respect, along with Entrancement, who made a promising return to action when finishing fourth at Nottingham 31 days ago. However, preference is for MILITARY TYCOON. Hugo Palmer's charge has looked in need of a step up in trip having been outpaced on all three of his starts over 1m and, judged on his debut run when he finished within four lengths of the now 92-rated Yaanaas, he could be well treated.

Win: MILITARY TYCOON

Danger: Johnjay
