Sponsors Thank You
At the very first public race meeting at Goodwood in 1802, the Prince of Wales’s horse, Rebel, beat the Duke of Richmond’s horse, Cedar. Ever since then we have been privileged to enjoy Royal horses racing at Goodwood, including many winners. Edward VII had eleven winners, including Persimmon who went on to win the Derby, the St Leger, the Eclipse Stakes and the Ascot Gold Cup. His son, George V, won two important races at Goodwood: the Goodwood Stakes and the Sussex Stakes.
Her Majesty The Queen continues this long tradition of racing monarchs with a string of wins over the last seventy years, including twice winning the Goodwood Cup, one of the foremost tests of stamina in the country. In recent years, Goodwood Racecourse has celebrated a plethora of winners in her famous purple and scarlet colours. Call To Mind won the March Stakes back in 2017 before Seniority was successful in the 2018 running of the Golden Mile, and it was at last season’s flagship Qatar Goodwood Festival where Her Majesty’s latest winner came on the South Downs with homebred Wink Of An Eye.
