Three Friday Nights Welcome to the first of our Three Friday Nights, presented by heycar, which promises to be a fantastic evening of horseracing and music. Our exciting six-race card this evening features the horseracing industry’s first all Apprentice racecard. Apprentice races are particularly important for jockeys starting out in their careers, and success at this level is crucial to securing professional status within the horseracing industry. Apprentice jockeys are afforded a weight allowance in races as their chances of winning are not as high as seasoned professional jockeys. Following racing, the parade ring will be transformed into a dancefloor and lasers will light up the night sky. Tonight, we welcome Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ Greg James to the stage. Known as the maverick for mixing up familiar hard-hitting party tunes with influences spanning dance music across the decades, it has got all the ingredients for an unforgettable evening, including rock, indie, dance, and R&B. Our thanks go to today’s presenting partner heycar, alongside William Hill, whose generous support we are extremely grateful for. I cannot let tonight pass by without remembering Lester Piggott. We were all saddened to hear of his death earlier this week at the age of 86. Lester was one of the greatest jockeys of all time, rewriting the history books multiple times and riding a phenomenal 4,493 winners in an illustrious career. I hope you all enjoy your evening dancing on the South Downs and will join us again on Sunday in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The racecourse will be awash with themed entertainment, from billowing bunting to fabulous festoon lighting and family fun; it is a meeting not to be missed.

The Duke of Richmond & Gordon Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse

The Gambing Act Review Email your MP in less than a minute – we can all make a difference! We absolutely support the objectives of protecting vulnerable individuals from gambling-related harm, but it is imperative that any new legislation is proportionate, targeted and evidence-based and will not result in any unintended economic consequences to British horse racing. As a supporter of horseracing, we urge you to make your MP aware that you do not want any future gambling regulation to affect your civil liberties and freedom to choose how you spend your time and money enjoying horseracing. Potential measures could include affordability checks and limits on how much you can stake and deposit.

Simply 1. Visit racingtv.eaction.org.uk/GamblingReview 2. Enter your postcode to find your MP 3. Put your name to a prepared letter

The process is straightforward and will take less than a minute to complete, but could make a real difference to the future of the sport.

Thank you for your help in supporting the sport

The Course Course Characteristics Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

Position of Starting Stalls Straight - Stand side 1m 3f & 1m 4f - Outside

Rest - Centre

Tote vs Starting Price? We’ll pay whichever is better on win bets!

We’ll always pay at least SP on Win bets and if the Tote dividend is greater, we’ll pay out at that price. Tote.co.uk, Tote.ie, Tote App and selected UK racecourse customers only. Promotion applies to Tote Win and win part of each way bets on all UK & Irish races, staking limits apply. Full terms and conditions available at Tote.co.uk/promotions. 18+. BeGambleaware.org

The Importance Of Apprentice Races In a racing industry first, all six of tonight’s races are restricted to Apprentice jockeys, young riders aged between 16 and 26 and working towards gaining a full professional licence. Apprentices claim a weight allowance of between 3lbs and 7lbs to compensate for inexperience, and although they regularly ride in races alongside professional jockeys, Apprentice races provide valuable opportunities compete against riders of a similar standard. The amount an Apprentice can claim is dependent on experience and is denoted by the figure in brackets next to their name in the racecard. According to the Rules of Racing, Apprentice jockeys can claim 7lb until they have ridden a career total of 20 winners, 5lb until they have ridden 50 winners and 3lb until they have ridden 95 winners. These thresholds may be amended depending on the race conditions. This evening’s races will count towards the Apprentice Jockeys’ Championship which runs throughout the Flat championship season beginning on the first weekend in May and concluding at Ascot on QIPCO British Champions Day in October. Marco Ghiani was crowned Champion Apprentice in 2021 and past winners in the last decade include Cieren Fallon (2019 & 2020), Jason Watson (2018), David Egan (2017), Josephine Gordon (2016), Tom Marquand (2015) and Oisin Murphy (2014). Goodwood is delighted to offer a Leading Jockey Award to the Apprentice Rider with the most points following the culmination of this evening’s card. We wish them every success for this fixture and in their future careers.

Race Summary Spirit Warning was touched off on his latest of two visits here in this race 12 months ago. That suggests he can go well, but UNCLE DICK may hold the aces. Second at Windsor off this mark last time, he missed the start before running into traffic and could go one better with a level break and a clear run. Hiromichi is worth a market watch on his first start of the season following both wind surgery and a gelding operation.

2021 WINNER: UNDER CURFEW 5 8 2 Mollie Phillips 22-1 (Tony Carroll) 11 ran

STEWARDS NOTED: HOLBACHE:Following its run on 19/5/2022 it was reported that the horse jumped awkwardly from the stalls. Q TWENTY BOY:Following its run on 19/5/2022 it was reported that the horse ran too freely.

Race Summary Youllovemewheniwin has been productive on the all-weather recently, culminating in a promising third on his latest outing at Wolverhampton last month. However, preference is for BOWLING RUSSIAN, who shaped well at Brighton on Tuesday. Providing this doesn't come too soon, he can run a big race under his apprentice jockey. Andre Amar also warrants respect following a 1lb drop in the ratings.

Race Summary SHOWDIEMLAD defied odds of 66-1 when finishing a close-up fifth (beaten one length) at this venue in April on his first attempt over 7f. The sixth placed horse has since won at Newbury from a mark of 81 and, with improvement likely, the son of Showcasing could land this prize. Adjudicator (third) was dropped 2lb for his run at Newmarket last month and he ought to remain competitive. Arab Cinder (fifth) was denied a clear run at Wolverhampton on her latest start and she warrants plenty of respect from an unchanged mark.
