The Brenda Reid Memorial Handicap Stakes

Brenda was born in Blackheath, London; however, with the exception of a four-year period which she spent in Canada with her husband, her home was in Haslemere, Surrey. Her family was extremely important to her and she was mother to three children and ‘Granny’ to four grandchildren, and they, along with her brother, are all here today. Whether she was having a pre-race picnic in Car Park 2, experiencing a day in The Double Trigger Restaurant or in a Hospitality Box, or simply sitting in the seats in The March Grandstand, watching the horses and racegoers, Brenda always enjoyed to the full her days at Goodwood Racecourse, where she had been an Annual Member for many years. Although Brenda passed away last July during ‘Glorious Goodwood’, at the age of 86, she will always be associated with Goodwood since she was one of those who supported the racecourse during the pandemic and she now has a stone, engraved with her name, in place around the paddock. We, her family, are delighted to be honouring Brenda’s memory with the running of this race today.
