May Festival Good afternoon and welcome to the second day of our May Festival. Today’s racecard features two Listed highlights, the Festival Stakes and the Tapster Stakes, both of which are sponsored by William Hill. These races are for older horses, and it is certainly worth taking note of the winners as they often go on to greater things. The dual Eclipse winner, Mtoto, set the standard for the Festival Stakes claiming the inaugural running in 1988. The roll of honour for the Tapster Stakes is shorter, with the race having been first run in 1970. Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte colours have seen notable success in recent years including the mighty Frankel’s full brother, Noble Mission, while Mirage Dancer was a winner of the contest, both horses followed up with further Group 1 success during that season. I wish all the owners with horses running at Goodwood today the very best of luck. Please make the most of your day at Goodwood by visiting your favourite vantage points, getting up close to the horses in the paddock, and watching all the thrilling action on the track. I hope you can join us again in June with the return of Three Friday Nights presented by heycar, with a great line-up of DJs (Greg James, Annie Mac, and Carl Cox) to take to the decks.
The Duke of Richmond & Gordon Chairman, Goodwood Racecourse

The Gambing Act Review Email your MP in less than a minute – we can all make a difference! We absolutely support the objectives of protecting vulnerable individuals from gambling-related harm, but it is imperative that any new legislation is proportionate, targeted and evidence-based and will not result in any unintended economic consequences to British horse racing. As a supporter of horseracing, we urge you to make your MP aware that you do not want any future gambling regulation to affect your civil liberties and freedom to choose how you spend your time and money enjoying horseracing. Potential measures could include affordability checks and limits on how much you can stake and deposit.
Simply 1. Visit racingtv.eaction.org.uk/GamblingReview 2. Enter your postcode to find your MP 3. Put your name to a prepared letter
The process is straightforward and will take less than a minute to complete, but could make a real difference to the future of the sport.
Thank you for your help in supporting the sport

The Course Course Characteristics Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

Race Summary It's very hard to get away from BACCARAT BABY here, as she was second on debut at Salisbury behind Katey Kontent, who has won again since. The daughter of Gleneagles was sent off favourite on that occasion and is entitled to have learned plenty from that outing. The unraced pair of Demi Pointe and Fully Wet are both respected on debut and are worth a check in the betting for any positive vibes.
Win: Baccarat Baby
Danger: Demi Pointe

Race Summary ALOTAIBI looks very much the pick of the John and Thady Gosden pair as his comeback second over C&D, when he clearly appreciated first-time cheekpieces, was an excellent effort. He's only gone up 1lb and, a winner on debut over this trip at Newbury last season, the only real blot on his copybook came at York when connections dropped him to 6f for a Listed race. There should be more to come and he's preferred over easy Beverley scorer Evocative Spark and River Pride.
Win: Alotaibi
Danger: Evocative Spark

STORMY ANTARCTIC:Following its run on 24/11/2021 it was reported that the horse suffered interference in running.
Race Summary A case can be made for most of these but the marginal preference is for STORMY ANTARCTIC, who won this contest 12 months ago and the veteran is capable of going very well when fresh. Victory Chime also won a Listed race over C&D in September and he has to be of some interest, although he does have to carry a 3lb penalty for that victory. The shortlist is completed by Brentford Hope, Movin Time and West End Charmer.

The Brenda Reid Memorial Handicap Stakes
Brenda was born in Blackheath, London; however, with the exception of a four-year period which she spent in Canada with her husband, her home was in Haslemere, Surrey. Her family was extremely important to her and she was mother to three children and ‘Granny’ to four grandchildren, and they, along with her brother, are all here today. Whether she was having a pre-race picnic in Car Park 2, experiencing a day in The Double Trigger Restaurant or in a Hospitality Box, or simply sitting in the seats in The March Grandstand, watching the horses and racegoers, Brenda always enjoyed to the full her days at Goodwood Racecourse, where she had been an Annual Member for many years. Although Brenda passed away last July during ‘Glorious Goodwood’, at the age of 86, she will always be associated with Goodwood since she was one of those who supported the racecourse during the pandemic and she now has a stone, engraved with her name, in place around the paddock. We, her family, are delighted to be honouring Brenda’s memory with the running of this race today.

Race Summary SURREY GOLD went into many notebooks following an impressive win at Newbury last May before finishing down the field on a couple of occasions. The four-year-old bounced back to winning ways at York in October and he is expected to progress this season after a gelding operation. Secret Shadow bids for a fourth career success, having ended 2021 in excellent form, while the likes of Inchicore and Oman are others worthy of consideration.

Race Summary LONE EAGLE hasn't been seen since suffering an injury in the King George last term and it would be no surprise if the Irish Derby second is too classy for his rivals on seasonal reappearance. The son of Galileo landed the Cocked Hat Stakes in good style last year and may bolster his record with Silvestre De Sousa returning to ride. Third Realm gave a good account in the Gordon Stakes over C&D and rates the most immediate danger, while Calling The Wind could be on the periphery once again.

Race Summary Candy Kitchen has to be respected after winning well at Windsor last time and a 6lb rise does little to temper any enthusiasm for Michael Bell's improving filly, but she might just find one too good in HASEEFAH. Alan King's mare went close in this race last year and arrives here on the back of an impressive victory at Chester, despite a really wide draw. Crema Inglesa has claims on the form of her Ascot second on her reappearance, while Speak is interesting on her handicap bow.

BETTING FORECAST 4-1 Mr Beaufort (GB), 9-2 Sir Henry Cotton (IRE), 6-1 Income (IRE), 8-1 Angle Land (GB), Level Up (IRE), 10-1 Arboy Will (GB), Bonita B (GB), 12-1 Glamorous Express (IRE), Sows (IRE), 14-1 Nordic Glory (IRE), 16-1 Mega Marvel (GB), 25-1 Kape Moss (GB)
Race Summary MR BEAUFORT showed a great deal of promise when scoring on his last outing at Wolverhampton over this distance, having only been denied by a short head at Bath on his penultimate run. He seems fairly feasibly treated off a mark of 75, so gets the mark ahead of Income, who could make her presence felt. Sows drops down in grade from a Listed race on her last outing and is feared too.
Win: Mr Beaufort
Danger: Income
