OPENING WEEKEND Welcome back to racing on the South Downs. We are delighted that the British Flat Race season is back. Our fixture list will welcome back racegoers across all nineteen meetings for the first time since 2019.
Our program this afternoon features a valuable Listed contest. Introduced in 2011, the EBF British Stallion Studs Daisy Warwick Stakes for four-year-olds takes its name from Daisy, Countess of Warwick, a staunch supporter of educational and employment schemes for women in the early twentieth century. In recent years, the race has been won by a host of talented horses. In 2019, Enbihaar was victorious; she was trained by John Gosden, and went on to win two Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes at our flagship meeting, the Qatar Goodwood Festival. Last year, Alpinista took the honours en route to claiming three stellar Group 1 successes in Europe, including victory over subsequent Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner, Torquator Tasso, in the Grosser Preis von Berlin in Germany.
Thank you to William Hill and the Trustees of the European Breeders’ Fund, for their continued support.
I do hope you have an enjoyable afternoon’s racing and will be able to join us for the second day of our Season Opener meeting tomorrow, where we have a host of family entertainment

The Gambing Act Review Email your MP in less than a minute – we can all make a difference! We absolutely support the objectives of protecting vulnerable individuals from gambling-related harm, but it is imperative that any new legislation is proportionate, targeted and evidence-based and will not result in any unintended economic consequences to British horse racing. As a supporter of horseracing, we urge you to make your MP aware that you do not want any future gambling regulation to affect your civil liberties and freedom to choose how you spend your time and money enjoying horseracing. Potential measures could include affordability checks and limits on how much you can stake and deposit.
Simply 1. Visit racingtv.eaction.org.uk/GamblingReview 2. Enter your postcode to find your MP 3. Put your name to a prepared letter
The process is straightforward and will take less than a minute to complete, but could make a real difference to the future of the sport.
Thank you for your help in supporting the sport

The Course Course Characteristics Goodwood’s pronounced gradients and sharp bends favour the active, handy type of horse, the fluent mover rather than the big, long-striding runner, and this applies especially in short races and when the going is fast.

A case can be made for all of these but marginal preference is for TUSCAN, who put in a career best when winning over 7f at Newmarket earlier in the month. The step up in trip should not be a problem for this son of Churchill and may even bring about further improvement. Al Mubhir looks to have a bright future based on his debut victory last year, while New Kingdom edges out Dawn Of Liberation for third best.

Race Summary ROCKET RODNEY ran with plenty of credit when runner-up on his debut at Nottingham earlier in the month and the son of Dandy Man is taken to build on that performance, having shown plenty of early speed. Revenite cost 50,000gns when bought at the Tattersalls December yearling sale and he has to be of interest, with his stable already among the winners with their juveniles. Shouldvebeenaring is another newcomer to note.

Race Summary RAASEL was one of a few progressive types in this field, racking up a five-timer near the end of last season's Flat campaign. He reappeared with a creditable effort at Musselburgh earlier this month and Michael Appleby's charge could regain the winning thread. Clarendon House must concede race fitness to some of his rivals but should not be dismissed given his profile. Mokaatil was impressive when winning at Epsom last Tuesday and could go well despite a 4lb penalty.

RACE FOUR
Bartzella created an excellent impression when landing a novice event at Ascot last October and, in a race where few can be ruled out, the unexposed filly is an interesting prospect. However, she may have to play second fiddle to SILENCE PLEASE, who makes her debut for Andrew Balding after posting some smart form in Group races over the past two seasons. Save A Forest won in this grade last year and can also make her presence felt.

STEWARDS NOTED: SHOBIZ:Following its run on 20/11/2021 it was reported that the horse ran free and was hampered late-on.
Race Summary In a wide-open contest the vote goes to CHIPSTEAD, who won his last three starts in 2021 and made a promising return at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago. The four-yearold is eased in grade here and he could go very well off the same mark. Twilight Madness is an obvious danger having hit the crossbar at Southwell last time, while Many A Star and Crimson Sand complete the shortlist.

Race Summary Wineglass Bay may go well here for a stable in great form and if he adds to his November Southwell success, he could be a player here as well. Wodeton could improve for his return to action when second at Newmarket and is another to take seriously, but BARLEY may have the edge. He only needed to be pushed out to score at Nottingham last time out and a mark of 86 looks fair enough for his handicap debut..

Race Summary MELLOW MAGIC got her season off to prefect start at Windsor earlier in the month and looks to have been found an ideal opportunity to follow up. Andrew Balding's four-year-old was a cosy winner on that occasion and a 4lb rise may not be enough to stop her here. Tralee Hills was over three lengths behind the selection last time and is on 3lb better terms this time. Diamond Cutter is an interesting runner making his seasonal reappearance for a shrewd team
