Also, another big thank you to The Case Family for their generous sponsorship of The Robert Case Memorial Race.

Plans are progressing for The Revel Festival, taking place at Fakenham Racecourse on Saturday 27 July This promises to be a great evening of live music, with headline act The Feeling supported by The Rick Parfitt Jnr Band, who recently sold out two dates in Milan, Izo Fitzroy, MathaGunn and a guest DJ. Official BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

LAST TIME AT FAKENHAM

Friday 16th February

Our Payne Crop Nutrition Raceday saw seven exciting races take place throughout the day, with some impressive performances on show.

The day’s opening contest saw Mi Bueno bounce back from a few below par efforts in fine style, comfortable taking the win. Ridden by Caoilin Quinn, the Paddy Butler trained gelding proved far too much for his rivals, going well clear from 3 out before winning by a massive 13 lengths ahead of Triple Nickle in second.

Five went to post for the day’s second contest and it was Seamus Mullins’ Elpologreg who got the win. It was a great ride from Michael Nolan in the saddle, keeping the gelding in touch with the leaders throughout the race before kicking on and contesting the lead when jumping the last. The gelding then had far too much left in the tank for his rivals to match, swiftly pulling clear to win. Go Fox led for much of the race but had nothing left to give for the final run-in and had to make do with second with Ferrybridge in third.

Westerninthepark justified his substantial support in the betting in the day’s third contest as he made it two wins from two starts in 2024. The six-year-old

has been on fire since joining Anthony Charlton’s yard in January, picking up an impressive win at Plumpton before coming here and looking even better. Ridden by Harry Cobden, the raced in second for much of the contest before pushing clear as they turned towards the last hurdle to win comfortably It was a spirited effort from Patriotik in second, Isabel Williams keeping her mount prominent throughout but he just proved no match for the winner.

DON’T MISS OUR NEXT MEETING

Aldiss Family Raceday Monday 1st April.

SEE YOU THERE!

It was two in a row for the favourites as Invincible Nao won in our fourth contest. The gelding was clear by the fifth jump but lost ground due to some less than stellar jumping, particularly after making a mistake from four out.

Caoilin Quinn did well however to get his mount back into gear, pushing on to go clear again and win by an emphatic fourteen lengths, the second win of the day for Quinn. Pearly Island raced well in second, 42 lengths clear of third.

For Gina was impressive in victory in the next, Lucy Wadham’s mare running well, despite some early jumping issues. She was leading early on before going clear from two out before a big mistake at the last looked like it could curtail her great run. She recovered well however, staying on well to win by over nine lengths. The well-backed favourite Hermes Le Gris ran well, Liam Harrison keeping him towards the rear of the field before making a move late on. He couldn’t match the pace of For

Gina however and a minor mistake at the last sealed his second placed finish.

The veteran twelve-year-old Secret Investor completed his hattrick in the day’s penultimate race. The Paul Nicholls trained gelding was the clear favourite in the betting and justified that support well with a fine performance in the Hunters’ Chase. Miss Natalie Parker was in the saddle as the gelding recovered from a bad mistake at the first to take the win.

It was a fine end to the day for Paul Nicholls as he had back-to-back winners in the final two races. It was Farland here, another well-backed favourite, who got the win with Harry Cobden in the saddle. He took keen hold of the race early on and looked very strong, keeping on well to hold off a rather surprising late challenge from the 80/1 Jack Out Of Reach who exceeded all expectations to finish second, 11 lengths clear of third.

Willie Mullins saddled the first four home last year and holds all the aces again with 7 runners, MAJBOROUGH looking the pick after his fine start for the yard behind stablemate Kargese at Leopardstown. He’s open to plenty of improvement and can come out on top. Salvator Mundi found only the absent Sir Gino too good in France on his debut 11 months ago and is an intriguing runner Nurburgring and Salver are also in the mix.

Plenty with solid claims and it may pay to take a chance on SO SCOTTISH. Still going well when falling over fences here earlier this term, he teed himself up nicely for a tilt at this with a good fourth over hurdles at Leopardstown 6 weeks ago and his mark looks a workable one for a yard that has already hit the target this week. The improving King of Kingsfield, now handicapping, and Betfair Hurdle second L’eau du Sud are other key players. Risk Belle and Absurde are also shortlisted.

Racegoers are advised that bookmakers are not obliged to pay until the ‘Weighed in’ is announced, nor to remain on the course more than 10 minutes after that announcement.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

Probable S.P’s: 3-1 Its On The Line (IRE), 7-2 Ferns Lock (GB), 15-2 Billaway (IRE), 9-1 Premier Magic (IRE), 11-1 Sine Nomine (GB), 12-1 Samcro (IRE), 14-1 Time Leader (IRE), 28-1 Quintin’s Man (GB), 33-1 Shantou Flyer (IRE), 50-1 D’Jango (FR), 66-1 Ramillies (IRE), 150-1 From The Heart (IRE)

ITS ON THE LINE has edged out both Ferns Lock and Billaway already this season and this stiff test of stamina (in testing conditions) is only likely to aid his cause, so he’s fancied to confirm superiority over that pair who boast solid claims of their own. Premier Magic has done nothing wrong since taking this prize at the expense of the selection in 2023, so he also warrants a strong mention.
