WELCOME & OFFICIALS

Fakenham RACECOURSE

WELCOME A very warm welcome to this Payne Crop Nutrition Raceday. We are very grateful for the generous sponsorship of todays’ race meeting by Payne Crop Nutrition Ltd and individual race sponsorships by The European Breeders Fund, the Barclay family and the Bulwer-Long family – thank you very much indeed. I apologise to everyone - owners, trainers, the public, officials and staff for the abandoned race meetings during January, especially on 2nd January 2024. This season has been the most difficult in my 26 years at Fakenham. The weather has constantly been against us and it has been incredibly stressful for everyone, but it is the wettest winter on record for the entire country and that definitely brings new challenges. Joining us today we are thrilled to welcome the Blackmores, who owned and trained our course record breaker, Cool Roxy. They are here signing their recently launched book – The Fakenham Favourite. This is their story as small trainers and of this amazing little horse, with all the highs and lows of their journey over the years. You can find them in the cabin at the end of the Grandstand, near the Parade ring, so do go and say hello. Our next race meeting is on Friday 15 March and is sponsored by Woodfordes, so will also enjoy a beer festival element. Looking further forward, we are excited to host the summer Revel Festival, which takes place on Saturday 27 July. Headline act, The Feeling, are supported by The Rick Parfitt Jnr Band, Izo FitzRoy and MarthaGunn plus a guest DJ. More information and tickets are available at revelfestival.co.uk. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal and new Annual Members, the backbone of a small independent racecourse like ourselves. Please do take up the additional free tickets for our 7 May meet and we will keep you informed of any other special offers or activities. Membership of Fakenham for 2024 is still available and represents extremely good value for money at £250 for double and £160 for single membership. If you would like more information or have any questions, drop into the racecourse office today or visit www.fakenhamracecourse. co.uk to buy online. Don’t forget to follow our social media and keep an eye on our website for additional events we are running throughout the year alongside our racing. BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
