A Very Happy Easter and a warm welcome to everyone to today’s Aldiss Raceday and we hope that you have a great day of racing, that you catch up with old friends and colleagues and make new friends.
We have also upgraded the jockeys’ changing rooms, weighing room and increased the size of the Owners’ and Trainers’ Cool Roxy Bar. For those of you with eagle eyes you will note that all the chase fences and hurdles have been changed from orange tops and bottoms to white and the hurdles are now made of foam pads and not birch. These are very positive changes that should benefit the welfare of the horses.

It was an another exciting day of action at Fakenham last time out, and it was Charlie Longsdon’s Parramount who stole the show, scoring in the Country Food Trust Fakenham Silver Cup Handicap Hurdle.
The days racing began with the Olly Murphy trained Weebill scoring in the Claiming Hurdle, always doing enough to win by one and a quarter lengths. It was a comfortable performance from the experienced eleven-yearold gelding. The market favourite Al Zaraqaan raced in last for much of the contest before really kicking into gear around the home turn was always held by Weebill. Us And Them rounded out the podium positions after being unable to catch his rivals.
It was a big win for the favourite in the second. Lucy Wadham’s Brandisova overcoming a number of jumping errors to ride out a convincing four and a half lengths winner under a strong ride from Bryony Frost after leading for much of the contest. Mixedwave came in second after featuring prominently throughout the race, however he was unable to make an impression in the final stages. Mad About Sally took third as the only other runner to complete after Cloudy Wednesday and Doireann were pulled up after struggling early on.
The favourite won again in the third, this time in even more convincing fashion than the last. Alan King’s Nothingtochance making easy work of the Robert Case Memorial Maiden Hurdle. Tom Bellamy kept his mount firmly in the middle of the pack before bursting into the lead two out, eventually extending her lead to six and a half lengths. A very comfortable win. The eight-year-old Lucid Dreams
TUESDAY 9TH MAY SEE YOU THERE!
made his belated debut here and really caught the eye with a strong second, despite being no match for the winner and really looks like one to watch going forward.
The run of favourites continued as the even money Le Tuer secured the win in the fourth. The nine lengths margin perhaps flattering him a touch as his jumping was awkward at times and he wandered a lot on the final run-in. Vetoncall proved no match for him in second and was the only other runner to complete.
The fifth saw the days star performer Parramount end the run of favourites as the seven-year-old comfortably brushed aside the competition to score his second win in a row. He was travelling strongly throughout under an aggressive ride from Aidan Coleman, leading from the first jump. He just kept extending his lead throughout before ultimately easing off over the final 110 yards, winning by thirteen lengths. Swaffham
Beck and Haafapiece finished second and third respectively, neither able to contest the lead. The favourite, Rare Middleton could only manage fourth after some below par jumping.
The favourites soon got back on track however, Bashers Reflection justifying his strong market support when scoring in the sixth. Jockey Jack Quinlan had to give him a little push late on as he began to slow down and idle. Celine Man secured second despite weakening late on with Rolling River keeping on well in third.
The final race of the day saw Bennys King clutch the victory in the Hunter’s Chase. He was competing for the lead throughout, and jockey Miss Heidi Palin pushed him clear two out, the others never got close. Sir Jack Yeats put in a strong performance but found himself outpaced late on with Peacocks Secret rounding out the podium positions.

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ★★★★★ Selected to win the race. ★★★★✩ Good chance of being placed.
By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
