WELCOME

A Very Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for attending toady’s race meeting –The Gamble Plant Norfolk Race Day We are especially grateful to Gamble Plant Norfolk for their very generous sponsorship of today’s race meeting.

A lot of building works have been done over the summer and autumn and I am delighted that today is the first time the New Long Bar is open and in full operation. I apologise that the external landscaping has not been finished, but the weather has been against us and this is now ‘work in progress’. We have also upgraded the jockeys’ changing rooms, weighing room and increased the size of the Owners’ and Trainers’ Cool Roxy Bar. For those of you with eagle eyes you will note that all the chase fences and hurdles have been changed from orange tops and bottoms to white and the hurdles are now made of foam pads and not birch. These are very positive changes that should benefit the welfare of the horses.

Annual Membership of Fakenham for 2023 is available and represents extremely good value for money If you would like more information on membership or would like to purchase it today, please go to the information desk inside The New Long Bar

Once again thank you for coming racing today I hope you have a fun, successful day’s racing and I wish you a very prosperous 2023.

Best Wishes, David Hunter Chief Executive

Fakenham RA CECOURS E WELCOME & OFFICIALS

Tuesday 15th November

It was another enthralling day of racing here on the 15th November with Mullenbeg clutching the win in the pick of the days seven races.

It was Alan Jones’ Vetoncall who clutched the first race of the day, with the lightly-raced ten-year-old just doing enough to fend off Le Tueur in second by three quarters of a length. These two were the only ones to complete with three pulling up and the market favourite Release The Kraken unseating his rider over the third. Nevertheless it remained a close race with a mistake over the fifth potentially costing Le Tueur the victory with Vetoncall moving into the lead from three out.

Our second race saw four take to the track in the Junior Fillies’ Hurdle in which Marshella was a comfortable victor. The Oliver Signy trained filly was prominent throughout, but jockey Harrison Beswick really pushed her along going into the home turn before a picture-perfect jump over the last. Citizen Jane did well coming in second, she was towards the rear most of the way but rallied on well approaching the last. With the favourite Ygritte outpaced and only managing third.

The first winning favourite of the day came in the third with Sabbathical justifying his strong market support with an impressive finish to score. His jumping early on left a far bit to be desired but he did well to pull it all together on the run-in, eventually winning by a length from Moore Clouds in second. The big surprise was the unfancied Uncle O showing some real fight to hold onto third at a hefty 25/1 despite weakening late on.

Fakenham RA CECOURS E LAST TIME AT FAKENHAM

DON’T MISS OUR NEXT MEETING SUNDAY 22ND JANUARY SEE YOU THERE!

It was back-to-back favourites as Secret Trix snatched the win by three quarters of a length for trainer Olly Murphy in the fourth. It wasn’t the cleanest ride you’ll ever see however, he raced wide early on and his jumping was a touch sloppy but Fergus Gregory coaxed him into a strong challenge in the home turn and that proved enough for the victory. Doireann led most of the way but folded under the late pressure and could only manage second with Scudamore a distant third.

It was the feature race of the day up next and Mullenbeg continued the run of favourites with a real confident run and an inspired performance from Mitchell Bastyan onboard. The five-year-old mare took a keen hold of the race early on and found herself four lengths clear moving into the home turn. Sorbet in second did well to cut that lead down but it wasn’t enough as Mullenbeg took the win by a length and a half. Sorbet clutched second largely unchallenged after

a mistake at the last seemed to cost Hillfinch much of his momentum. The fancied Sawpit Sienna was unable to make much of an impression.

Conceroe ran out the clear winner in the Novice’s Handicap next. Keeping on well late on with main rival Prime Pretender weakening on the run-in despite leading most of the way. The only other to complete was Prince Cleni, fourteen lengths behind after a bad mistake over the last.

Shinji concluded the days racing with a fine performance in the National Hunt Flat Race. Roger Varian’s threeyear-old was largely unchallenged here, scoring on her debut and looks one to watch in the future. Gaye Legacy certainly didn’t disgrace herself in second, but she was a distant nine lengths behind Shinji. The highly fancied Damarta was unable to justify her support, racing far too freely and unable to make much of an impression in the finale.

Star Ratings Explained

2. BHA Rating 3. Timeform View & TFR Rating 4. Horses Trainer & Their Location 5. Jockey 6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey 7. Saddlecloth number 8. Horse’s name 9. Days since the horse last run 10. Horse’s age 11. Jockey’s weight (stone and Ibs) 12. The horse’s breeding – father (sire) and mother (dam) 13. Horse’s owner 14. Horse’s breeder 15. Birthplace of horse (outside GB)

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

Selected to win the race.

Good chance of being placed.

By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

Can be given little or no chance.

Official BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.

A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

ANOTHER MYSTERY: Following its run on 10/11/2022 it was reported that the horse was never travelling.

Probable S.P’s: 9-4 Colemanstown Lad (IRE), 11-4 Le Tueur (IRE), 3-1 Lincoln Lyn (GB), 10-1 Another Mystery (GB), 22-1 Twasn’t The Plan (IRE), The Yellow Mini (GB), 100-1 Monymusk Lad (IRE), 300-1 Imperial Senorita (IRE)

LINCOLN LYN is well treated in this sphere having won a handicap hurdle by a wide margin off just 2lb lower and she makes plenty of appeal given how she shaped back over fences in a stronger race than this at Southwell on her return. Colemanstown Lad has made a positive start over fences and is the obvious threat having only just lost out at Southwell 6 weeks ago.

OFFICIAL BHA

RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
