WELCOME & OFFICIALS

Fakenham RACECOURSE

WELCOME All of us at Fakenham are delighted we are able to welcome you to today’s race meeting, despite the testing times we currently live in. It has been great to have racegoers back since October – long may it last. None of us can afford to be complacent about the challenges of Covid, so please comply with the national policy and guidelines. Respect people’s personal space; wash your hands frequently and thoroughly; wear a face covering if you wish – and have FUN. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone caught up in the dreadful war in Ukraine. Lets hope that peace comes soon and to all racegoers I ask you to help the people of Ukraine in whatever way you can. Finally, I would like to thank Jarrold for their generous sponsorship of today’s race meeting. LAST TIME AT FAKENHAM

Fakenham RACECOURSE

Tuesday 3rd May

The first raceday on Racing TV saw the Snellings Norfolk National the highlight on a glorious day of racing.

HEY BOB

The opening selling handicap hurdle was won by Fakenham regulars Olly Murphy and Lewis Stones with Hey Bob. Running off bottom weight with Stones claiming 5lb, Hey Bob followed up from an impressive win at Sedgefield on his previous start to win by nearly ten lengths, making all unchallenged, beating the Kim Bailey-trained Balleticon and favourite Bagan in cosy style. In the auction following the race, he was bought in for £5,000. The next race saw another easy winner, with 6/1 shot Ajay’s Ways winning for Fergal O’Brien under a fine hold up ride from Kielan Woods. The win took his record at Fakenham to two wins and a third from just the three runs at the Norfolk course. Held up at the back, he travelled smoothly into contention and sealed the deal with a sharp jump at the third last, extending away from Dubai Guest (who was hampered) and Brooksway Fair to win very nicely. Rathmacknee broke his maiden in the third race under Nico de

Boinville for Nicky Henderson, beating favourite High Tech by only 33 lengths! The second winner to make all on the day, he fairly bolted up and couldn’t have been more impressive. The rest of the field were strung out and the Million In Mind’s point winner showed significant improvement from the wind operation to break his duck at the third time of asking.

AJAYS’S WAY

DON’T M IS S O U R N EX T ME ETI NG

FRIDAY 14TH OCTOBER SE E YOU THERE!

The Skelton’s were keen to get in on the act and Watashock provided their winner of the meeting, justifying favouritism and giving lumps of weight away to win the novices’ handicap hurdle. The Sholokov gelding travelled well on his handicap debut, being held up in rear by Harry Skelton and delivering his challenge three out. He only had to be ridden out to get off the mark over hurdles, giving a load of weight away to the Caroline Fryer-trained Cloudy Wednesday back in second under double seeking Lewis Stones. The penultimate and feature race of the day was the Snellings Norfolk National over the marathon trip of three miles and five furlongs. The

field featured 2020 winner Game Line, but the Seamus Mullinstrained Tommie Beau came out on top under Micheal Nolan, who benefited from a hold up ride to land the spoils late on. He beat the prominently racing Red Happy by a length and a half, with a further length back to Havana Hermano in third. The hunter chase rounded off Snellings Norfolk National Day and Alan Hill’s Normofthenorth came out on top under Izzie Marshall. Sent off strong favourite, Normofthenorth jumped well in the main and kept on gamely up the run in to win by four and a half lengths, beating Jamie Snowden’s Socialiser back in second.

LEADING FAKENHAM JOCKEY (2021-22): Bryony Frost (5 wins)

BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
