BETTING EXPLAINED Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

TRAINERS

Sir David Prosser Trophy

to be awarded to most successful Epsom trainer The Sir David Prosser Trophy celebrates the achievements of the most successful Epsom-based trainer from the 2026 racing season. The trophy was named in Sir David Prosser’s honour on his retirement from the non-executive board of Epsom Downs in 2013. Sir David made an enormous contribution to the development of the racecourse over many years and remained a loyal supporter of Epsom Downs and the local training community until his passing in March 2020. The current standings can be seen below and are correct as of 13th August.

The Sir David Prosser Trophy championship for 2026 runs from 5th November 2025 to 4th November 2026. Epsom Downs is home to nearly 180 horses in training. These horses have access to six miles and 250 acres of top quality training surface along the Surrey Downs. We are very proud of the training grounds here on Epsom Downs. Racing is part of our heritage and we want to ensure that we keep the Downs as a prestigious training ground and encourage further business from trainers and owners in the future.
