WelcometoEpsomDownsforthisafternoon’ssummerfamilyraceday. We are delighted to have you with us today as we celebrate the Bank Holiday in the sun on the Downs.
We have a fantastic afternoon in store for you, with six races continuing an exciting summer of racing here at Epsom Downs. We’re very grateful to Betfred, Juddmonte, the EBF and TrustFord for their support of this afternoon’s card, which features the Betfred Amateurs’ Derby over the full Derby course and distance. Inaugurated in 1963, the race gives a once-a-year opportunity for gentleman amateur jockeys to experience the unique contours and undulations of our historic racecourse
We are also celebrating the life of Robin Grossmith in this afternoon’s third race, who sadly passed away last year Robin was a pivotal part of the on-course bookmaker community across the country for many years. We are delighted to welcome his family and friends today to celebrate his life
We also have a wide range of family friendly activities available throughout the day, ranging from three kids races on the hallowed racing turf, to fairground rides on the to arts and crafts inside Oaks Hall. We are also hosting the Terrier Derby and the renowned mascot race, which brings mascots from across the country racing against each other for the coveted prize!
There is something for everyone here at Epsom today - I hope you have a fabulous afternoon and please do not hesitate to talk to any of our staff if you have any questions

The Sir David Prosser Trophy celebrates the achievements of the most successful Epsom-based trainer from the 2024 racing season.
The trophy was named in Sir David Prosser’s honour on his retirement from the non-executive board of Epsom Downs in 2013. Sir David made an enormous contribution to the development of the racecourse over many years and remained a loyal supporter of Epsom Downs and the local training community until his passing in March 2020.
The award for the 2022/23 season was given to Adam West, with 20 winners across the 12 month period. He was closely followed in second by Michael Attwater, with 18 wins and in third was Simon Dow with 17 winners. The award was presented at the Epsom Owners & Trainers’ Ball in November 2023.
The 2023/24 award started on the 5th November last year, and current standings as of 26th August are:
The presentation for the winning trainer will be made at the Epsom Trainers Association Ball in November. The Sir David Prosser Trophy championship for 2024 runs from 5th November 2023 to 4th November 2024.
Epsom Downs is home to nearly 180 horses in training. These horses have access to six miles and 250 acres of top quality training surface along the Surrey Downs. We are very proud of the training grounds here on Epsom Downs. Racing is part of our heritage and we want to ensure that we keep the Downs as a prestigious training ground and encourage further business from trainers and owners in the future.

ATLANTIS BLUE: Following its run on 8/8/2024 it was reported that the jockey was slow to remove the blindfold.

Atricky puzzle to solve but the most persuasive option is ATLANTIS BLUE, who did well to get as close as she did in pursuit of a hat-trick when fourth at Sandown earlierthis month and George Baker’s mare remains of interest despite a 2lb rise. The main threat may emerge from Crimson Spirit, who shaped encouragingly having been caught wide at York last month, with Unreal Connection and Lunatick fancied to go well, too.
