JAMES ‘JEM’ ROBINSON 1794-1873

Jem Robinson rode six Derby winners and two Oaks winners in the early 1800s, and was the winning-most Derby jockey until Lester Piggott’s seventh win with Empery in 1976. Robinson also rode an unequalled nine winners of the 2000 Guineas. His Derby winners were Azor (1817), Cedric (1824), Middleton (1825), Mameluke (1827), Cadland (1828) and Bay Middleton (1836).
