Welcome to the opening day of the 2020 St Leger Festival. Today marks a few firsts. Not only is this my first St Leger Festival as Executive Director at Doncaster Racecourse but it is also the first time since March that crowds are being welcomed back through our gates. 2020 has undoubtedly been a challenging year. However, we are extremely proud and pleased to be one of the UK’s first pilot events to welcome back sporting crowds. We hope that everything we learn over the course of the next four days will lay the foundations for the industry as a whole to start welcoming back spectators to the sport they love in a safe and enjoyable way for all. There has obviously been a huge amount of work behind-thescenes since the government’s announcement at the end of August to ensure we are able to open our gates today with crowds. I’d like to personally thank everyone who has been involved with getting this pilot event approved as well as everyone working over the next four-days to deliver the St Leger Festival in accordance with the new government guidelines. As you’d expect, we’ve put in place a range of extensive safety measures & guidelines over the next four days and everyone attending should now be familiar with our Code Of Conduct. For your safety, and the safety of others, please make sure you read and observe our Code of Conduct, that can be found in this racecard.

As well as feeling hugely pleased to see crowds return to Doncaster, today also kicks off four day of exciting racing that culminates with the World’s Oldest Classic, the Pertemps St Leger Stakes, and the only classic in Yorkshire. As my first St Leger Festival as Executive Director of Doncaster Racecourse, I feel incredibly privileged and proud to be part of delivering such an historic event. Today’s feature race is of course the Mondialiste Leger Legends charity race in aid of Jack Berry House and the National Horseracing College at 2.40pm. First run in 2010 for ex-professional jockeys, this year’s running is a little different as it celebrates current legends in the sport and we are delighted that sixtime St Leger winning jockey Frankie Dettori has agreed to ride. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank today’s sponsors bet365, The European Breeders Fund, Parkes Bros Roofing Contractors and Elwood Stud for their generous support of today’s fixture and I wish them all a great afternoon. Today of course is a pilot event; it is not the St Leger Festival as we know it. Yet the success of this event is fundamental in ensuring the safe return of spectators to the industry as a whole. Please support us in staying alert, maintaining social distance, and wearing a mask when moving around. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable afternoon’s racing.

THANK YOU

TO OUR SPONSORS The Doncaster Racecourse Executive would like to thank our sponsors and wish them an enjoyable and prosperous day’s racing.

Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

HORSE WELFARE COMES FIRST AT DONCASTER At every race meeting at Doncaster our top priority is the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. We have a dedicated team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. Use of Screens It is our policy to erect green screens around any horse requiring veterinary attention. This does NOT reflect the severity of any injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse! 13

RACE SUMMARY

It may pay to focus on the 3-y-os. LATE ARRIVAL ran a cracker when clear with an improver at Yarmouth last time and is taken to get off the mark. Lexington Warfare will be a threat if in the same form as when second from the front at Ripon last week, while Mykonos St John could also play a prominent role if recapturing the level of his Windsor win. Flying Dragon looks best of the older brigade. 1-2-3: 1.LATE ARRIVAL (IRE) 2.LEXINGTON WARFARE (IRE) 3.MYKONOS ST JOHN KEY colours
