The Handicapper allots ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

SIGNORA might be able to put her experience to good use An eyecatching third on debut at Naas in May, she was subsequently sent off favourite for the Albany at Royal Ascot, finishing a respectable ninth in that Group 3 contest. In calmer waters now, she looks the one to beat. LIGHT AS AIR ran a cracker on his seasonal reappearance behind better-fancied stablemate and subsequent Irish Derby runner-up Serious Contender and now reverts to maiden company having not enjoyed the clearest of passages in the King George V at Royal Ascot. Edelak has progressed with each run and was just denied when stepping up to this trip at Fairyhouse last month, while Winston Junior is another for the shortlist having finished well into second behind Vorfreude in the valuable Ulster Derby at Down Royal. The Frankel filly went close on her penultimate outing in a Naas maiden that has thrown up a number of subsequent winners. Adrienne has strong claims if reproducing her second to J M’s Joy over 1m2f on soft ground here back in March, and holds Noli Timere on running behind Sharpen here on Guineas weekend. Metamorphic made a promising debut at Leopardstown and scoped dirty when subsequently disappointing at Cork. Treasure Rose is another to consider having shaped well at Navan last time
