I would like to extend a warm Curragh welcome to you all here this evening for the first day of our three-day Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival – the highlight of the season here at The Curragh. I hope that you have a good evening and find a winner or two.
We hope you will enjoy your visit to the Curragh and we are always interested in hearing customer feedback. Please try out our café Orbys by Lucy beside the parade ring and the Derby Festival Village marquee which is adjacent to the pre parade ring as well as Lilywhites Bar and the various facilities in Champions Hall. Free seating is available at the front of the stand throughout the final furlong.
There is plenty of entertainment throughout the enclosures tonight as well as mobile food and beverage outlets, while after racing, the party will continue in Champions Hall with music by the Classic Beatles.
We are very grateful to tonight’s sponsors – the Irish European Breeder Fund, Fitzpatrick’s Mercedes Benz, JJ Mahon & Sons, O’Driscoll’s Irish Whiskey, James Nolan Bar and Diageo Luxury Spirits, together with Lock 13 and the Silken Thomas both owned by the Flanagan family who have been great supporters of the racecourse for many years. Their support, together with that of Horse Racing Ireland, is critical to underpinning prize money levels here at the Curragh.
Tonight, also sees the running of the Corinthian Challenge where thirteen amateur riders will ride over the Irish Derby course to raise monies for the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund. This is our last race of the evening and please show your support for our riders as they take on this challenge.
We would also like to welcome supporters of Round Towers GAA from Kildare Town. The Club is one of the oldest in the country and has produced a number of county players.
I would also like to thank all owners with runners here today also - we hope your experience is a good one and thank you for your support. Please enjoy the hospitality in the Tattersalls Owners Club on Level 2 of the grandstand.
We are now on the final countdown to the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, and we look forward to another wonderful day’s racing tomorrow before the big one on Sunday.
I hope you enjoy your evening and look forward to welcoming you back here at the Curragh many more times during the season.

The Handicapper allots ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicapper to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CURRAGH COMMENT
PUERTO RICO ran a nice race on his debut here earlier in the month and can step forward now The Wootton Bassett colt stayed on to finish fourth behind stablemate Flushing Meadows over C&D and should have learned plenty from that experience Ger Lyons has won three of the last four runnings of this race and his Learntodiscover is another obvious contender Similarly, he shaped with promise when third over track and trip last month. Fresh Fade went close at Listowel and is another who has to be on the shortlist.
WIN: PUERTO RICO

CURRAGH COMMENT
MINERVA was reportedly very green when beaten at a short price on her debut at Leopardstown just over three weeks ago She finished third to stable companion Moments Of Joy, who has run well since to finish third at Royal Ascot. Cape Sounion has been runner-up on her two outings to date and is the obvious danger Her form is strong because stablemate Balantina, who beat her last time, has been placed in the Albany since The other Ballydoyle filly Composing was fifth behind Cape Sounion over 6f here, but may get closer with that run under her belt.

CURRAGH COMMENT
FOUR BLONDES ran much better in a first-time hood and can strike here, despite going up 3lb for her recent performance The Gleneagles filly was a touch unlucky when chasing home Declaree in a competitive race at Gowran Park and looks up to scoring again now Ribchestina was almost three lengths behind the selection last time and is 4lb better off She is also tried in a hood. Dark Viper ran another solid race when fifth at Leopardstown and could be place material.

BOOGIE INTHEJUNGLE may be able to make a winning return. She shaped nicely on her sole outing last term when fourth to Majestic Wave at Navan in October The form of that race is fairly solid and, with natural improvement, she’s up to landing a race of this standard. Made U Blush sets the standard with a mark of 77 She ran well on her return at Leopardstown and drops back in trip after not performing to the same level at Cork over an extended 10 furlongs. Ithacan Queen is an interesting newcomer for Henry de Bromhead. She is a half-sister to a couple of winners.

CURRAGH COMMENT
REFRESHMENT is an obvious pick having won his last two starts and can continue his progression, being just a three-year-old. He met various types of in-running issues in his early career starts but has really found his niche racing over this distance in recent weeks, while also benefitting from the application of blinkers. Genuine Jim was in top form earlier in the season and returns having been gelded. He is 9lb higher than when winning at Cork though and would also ideally prefer an ease Ransom missed the break before running on well at Leopardstown recently and is suited by conditions.

OUR FRIEND MOUSE showed plenty of ability when finishing second in a Guineas-weekend maiden over C&D last month. He finished his race very well and the form has taken a boost with the fourthplaced horse scoring subsequently Game Point, rated 88, continues to run to a useful level and bumped into a nice newcomer at Gowran recently Tswalu was beaten by the slow-starting subsequent Ulster Oaks winner at Cork last month and is capable of a decent showing.

HORSEWELFARE-APRIORITY
At every race meeting there are specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons on duty to look after the wellbeing of all the horses racing. There is a vet in attendance at the start of each race who, follows the horses throughout the race and is quickly on hand if an injury occurs.
It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment.
This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and race goers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse.
The Blue Cross ambulance is always present to transport the horse back to the stable yard for further treatment if necessary.
A second veterinary surgeon is in attendance in the stable yard to assess and treat any horses requiring such attention post race. The horses’ welfare is always our priority.

CURRAGH COMMENT
CINAMMON COCO tried a mile and a half for the first time when a fine second at Roscommon and remains open to further progression. He initially raced over shorter distances but, having performing with credit over an extended 1m1f at Ballinrobe, benefited further from stepping up in trip last time, in a race which is working out well. He is 1lb wrong at the weights, but has an experienced apprentice on board. Fellow three-year-old Jr Mahon is 3lb out of the handicap, but ran well on his handicap debut at Limerick. Pillar Of Hope’s rating has dropped markedly from 79 last June and he is worth some thought. WIN: CINAMMON COCO

Jessie Harrington’s resilient outlook after her surgery inspired me to take on the Corinthian Challenge The training would not be possible without the support of my dedicated team—Claire, Greg, Sean, and Alex. I dedicate this race to Arthur, a brave little boy fighting leukaemia and to my mum for her brave little steps every day Champion jockey Paddy Flood humorously says, “Riding a winner is like watching the world in slow motion.” I’m just in it for the batman boots!! Thank you to Grangecon Kitchen and Jod-Z for your sponsorship and support.

CURRAGH COMMENT
Ten-time winner SAN ANDREAS should give rider Robin De Pelsmaeker a chance of claiming Corinthian Challenge success here, being an able performer Rated 108 at his peak in 2022, the selection has a better all-weather record than on turf but drops in grade, having contested a competitive Leopardstown handicap last month. Duke Of Leggagh, the mount of Madison Clancy, was a Roscommon winner last month and can compete at the business end. Prairie Dancer is another to consider
