2 WELCOME
Prior to 2019, there were no clinical trials available in Ireland for people with cancer of the pancreas.
Clinical trials offer patients very real, and important benefits – but they can also provide something as vital as it is intangible: Hope. That is Pat’s real gift to the people coming after him who are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. With that in mind, and on behalf of 50+ Cancer Trials Ireland staff, the community of cancer trial sites & healthcare professionals, and the patients whose treatment options you have made possible thank you.
Pat Smullen and the horse racing community completely changed the landscape in 2019 when they raised €2.6m for pancreatic cancer trials and research. Since then, the racing community has continued to support Cancer Trials Ireland, notably via the Coast to Curragh charity cycles, but also with a steady stream of horse leases, prize-winnings, and personal donations. Below you will learn how this money is being used to bring new treatment options to pancreatic cancer patients.
Eibhlín Mulroe, CEO, Cancer Trials Ireland

I would like to extend a warm Curragh welcome to you all for the last of our four August Summer Saturday meetings. After two years of Covid restrictions, we are very much enjoying being able to welcome racegoers back to the Curragh this year. I hope that you have a good day. We have made some changes to our offering which we hope you will enjoy and are always interested in hearing customer feedback. Please try out our Lilywhites Bar and the various facilities in Champions Hall. To watch racing, seating is available for all patrons throughout the final furlong at the front of the stand.
I would like to thank all owners with runners here today we hope your experience at the Curragh is a good one and we thank you for your support. We race at the Curragh again on Sunday September 11th with the second day of Longines Irish Champions Weekend, featuring a fabulous four Group 1 races and lots of entertainment off the track. We look forward to seeing you again then.
In 2022, the Curragh will stage 23 race meetings in total an increase of two over last year and we will have an exciting programme of high-quality flat racing on offer throughout the year. We are very grateful to today’s sponsors the Irish EBF, our security partner Manguard Plus, Newtownanner Stud, Scott Heider and his Family, Killashee House Hotel and FBD Hotels and Resorts, Mrs Cristina Patino, Paddy Power, Bord Na Mona, and DMG Media. Your support, together with that of Horse Racing Ireland, is critical to underpinning prize money levels here at the Curragh. Today is a day that we remember the late, great Pat Smullen who is dear to the hearts of everybody involved with the Curragh. Together with Gavin Lynch and the Coast to Curragh Cycle team, we are running several fundraising initiatives in aid of Cancer Trials Ireland. The cycle itself will finish here around 4.30 pm and we are pleased to welcome Frances and many of Pat’s family and friends here today. We are grateful for your support of this worthy cause which will include a share of today’s gate receipts.
Brian Kavanagh Chief Executive

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring penalties and allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicapped races the rating shown is that each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. 10 11 11

DANGER:
WIN:
Aidan O’Brien has saddled the last eight winners of this contest and the master of Ballydoyle looks to hold a strong hand today with Gulf Of Mexico and CAIRO. The former is beautifully bred and cost 1,100,000gns as a yearling, so it would be disappointing if he doesn’t run a big race, but experience could give his stablemate the edge. He was only beaten a head on his debut over 6f here three weeks ago and, likely to improve for this step up in trip, he should mount a bold bid.

THEHEIDER FAMILY

“I began racing and breeding thoroughbreds with my father 26 years ago in The States. We’ve enjoyed some terrific times and been blessed with a number of high caliber horses including 2019 Grade I winner “Mia Mischief”. But there’s something extra special about racing in Ireland with its incredible history.”
The Heider’s success has been marked with victories on some of racing’s biggest days. Crossfirehurricane won on debut at Limerick and followed that up with three successive victories, notably in the Listed Patton Stakes at Dundalk and then the Gallinule Stakes, which they sponsored earlier in the season.
Horse Racing Ireland has been a pleasure to work with as they always seem to go out of there way to make sure our experience is quite special.”
The talented Pista has also showcased her talent, progressing rapidly under the care
The Curragh would like to acknowledge the generous support of Scott Heider and his family today and celebrate their growing association with horse racing in Ireland.
Scott Heider and his family has been involved with racing in Ireland for six years now. The history of the Irish horse is what initially drew them in and caused them to expand their racing operation from the States to Ireland.
“It’s just been a fantastic experience for us. We love our partnership with Joseph O’Brien and we’ve been very fortunate to race some talented individuals on Irish racecourses the last few years.

of Joseph O’Brien to take the Vinnie Roe Stakes at Leopardstown before following up in the Group 2 Park Hill at Doncaster in 2021. She is a highlyexciting mare but has yet to be seen this season.

The Heider’s affiliation with the Curragh can be found through their welcome sponsorship of the Round Tower Stakes and the Gallinule Stakes, two significant races in the Irish racing calendar.
Agartha is another smart filly that Scott has on his hands in the Joseph O’Brien stable. She landed the Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown in fantastic style, before kicking on again to land the Debutante Stakes here at the Curragh last season. She has showed she remains a top force this season too with two seconds in Group 3 company, before stepping up to the top ranks here at the Curragh when a solid fifth in the 1,000 Guineas, won by Homeless Song.

It is normal procedure to erect screens around any horse receiving veterinary treatment. This allows the veterinary surgeon some privacy to fully assess the horses’ injuries and race goers should not assume the worst if screens are erected around an injured horse.
Narrowly denied in Listed company on her penultimate start here, TREASURE TROVE put it all together when destroying her rivals at York’s Ebor Festival last week. Paddy Twomey’s charge has been a model of consistency throughout this season and now seems to be the right time to go back up in trip. A typically wide-open Cambridgeshire, in which a tentative vote goes to SALTONSTALL. Fourth in this last year, Adrian McGuinness’ eight-year-old returns to race from an 8lb lower mark and providing stall one doesn’t prove to be a hindrance, he’s a major player. Fastnet Crown and Star Harbour sandwiched the selection last year and both hold solid claims this afternoon. Cowboy Justice, Good Heavens and Janoobi remain unexposed and need taking seriously, along with recent C&D scorer Celtic Crown. No More Porter likes it here and he might reward each-way backers.

RACE SEVEN 59
Such is the competitive nature of this handicap, there are plenty of chances in this field, but ONE SWEET DAY gets the nod. The four-year-old was a good second last time out over 6f at this venue and she shaped as if the step up to 7f could be the perfect tonic. She runs off the same mark today, plus Jake Coen claims a valuable 2lb. Ducky Mallon is likely to be her biggest danger after winning last time, but he has been raised 7lb for that success. Sadiqaa completes the shortlist
WIN: ONE SWEET DAY DANGER: Ducky Mallon A case can be made for several of these, but the Joseph O’Brien-trained KARAOKE built on a pleasing racecourse debut to score on the all-weather on her most recent run. She should have a say in proceedings once more, but Hasten Slowly has
