CONTENTS & TODAY’S RACING

WIN ONLY The most common form of bet You win if your horse is first past the post. Example: £5 win at 8/1 would return £45 (8 x £5 = £40 + £5 stake)
EACH WAY Backing a horse to win or be placed. This doubles your bet – for example: £5 each way = £5 to win and £5 for a place = £10 total stake
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting
• Fewer than 4 runners - all on to win
• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4
Some bookmakers also offer ‘betting without the favourite’, where you can back your selection at reduced odds to either win or finish second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite. You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker on course as they operate with Administration Of Gambling On Tracks Ltd. (AGT) approval. In the unlikely event of a dispute with a bookmaker, please call upon the assistance of the AGT Betting Ring Manager, who can be found on the ground floor of the Grandstand Enclosure. The AGT also offers a ‘late pay’ service in case the bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to: AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, PE27 4WY.
Experiencing the buzz of the betting ring may be a little daunting at first, but you will soon find it is very easy to place a bet. Here are some guidelines for racegoers to follow:
1. Each bookmaker will be offering slightly different prices, so shop around for the best odds against your selection.
2. Call your bet clearly to the bookmaker by stating the name and / or number of your chosen horse and the stake
3. Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his / her clerk and correct him immediately if any details are called wrongly.
4. Make sure you obtain a ticket from the bookmaker and keep it safe.
5. If your selection wins, hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. Never destroy or dispose of your ticket until after the “Weighed in” announcement has been made Betting with the bookmaker is tax-free. Deductions are made only if a horse is withdrawn after the betting market has been formed
Please check the minimum stake accepted by each bookmaker on his display board Some bookmakers do not take sums under £5, especially in the main betting ring, but there will be others who are happy to accept £2 bets. Please tender the correct change when possible.

HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
15 Jockey’s photo If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
DESCRIPTION
A left-handed circular flat course, turning for most of the way, and finishing in a short straight which is less than two furlongs in length. The course suits the handy type of horse and a fast start is quite important in sprints. At just over a mile around this is the smallest course in Great Britain.

1.35pm- Ghost Mode brings some solid past performances to this race He finished 2 lengths behind Isaac Newton in a maiden at Glorious Goodwood. His latest effort in breaking his maiden tag was disappointing however, going off long odds on but running too freely and finishing 2nd at Epsom. Enamorus steps up in trip today for local trainer, Hugo Palmer She finished 2nd to Princess Petrol in a Novice Stakes race over 6 furlongs at Ascot Wild Dahlia has a good draw in stall 3 and can come on again from her 3rd place finish at Newmarket three weeks ago
2.05pm- Hamish looks like he could be hard to beat here. He is two from two at this track and comes here off the back of two wins in listed company. Military Academy finished 2nd, beaten by a neck to Hamish at Goodwood in June. He stepped up to Group 1 company in the 2-mile Goodwood Cup Stakes but was no match for the opposition that day but could turn that form around with Hamish getting a 3lb penalty today. Mount Atlas ran well in defeat in both the Ormonde Stakes and Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes and can’t be discounted.
2.40pm- Spirit Mixer is a course and distance winner and won the Northumberland Plate in June. He should be competitive here now off a mark of 93. Zoffee finished in 3rd place in the Chester Cup at 14/1 in May but was outclassed in the Ascot Stakes on good to firm ground. Ndaawi looks an interesting Irish raider for trainer Gordon Elliott He was promoted to winner after a steward’s enquiry in the Galway Hurdle and was runner up in the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham festival earlier this year He runs off a flat mark of 89 today and must be respected.
3.23pm- Jan Steen runs for the first time as a gelding. He made a bright start to his sprinting career, winning first time out in a Thirsk maiden race but was no match for his rivals in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot He has plenty of early speed and looks a danger now off a mark of 85. Hanney Girl looks a speedy type and she looked very smart when making all the running to win at Ripon last time out. She has a fair bump up in the weights to contend with today but is one for the shortlist. Temple Of Athena steps back to 5 furlongs and breaks from stall 3. She may need improvement, however, to be competitive here. London Is Blue comes here on good recent form but has a hike in the weights to overcome after an easywin at Brighton last time out.
4.00pm- Box To Box should be up with the early speed here and stall 4 should suit his chances. He goes up 2lbs for his narrow 2nd in a Chelmsford handicap race but the step down in class today should help his chances. Let’s Dream finished 3rd here at Chester in a class 4 handicap but got no luck in running and is worth a market check today. Spioradalta was promoted to winner of his last race at Beverley and is up 4 lbs in the weights. He looks to have tactical pace and has his chances today coming here on good recent form.
4.35pm- Giant, Be Frank and Paws For Thought had entries for racing here on Friday. It’sneverjusone was a nice winner of a handicap at the Galway festival but a revised mark of 83 could prove difficult. Miami Matrix is a dual course and distance winner who breaks from stall 4 and steps back to class 4 company for trainer Hugo Palmer. He looks one for the shortlist. Sailthisshipalone has only one win from 17 starts but maybe the first time pieces as well as going down in the weights will help his chances.
5.05pm- Heathen makes his first start since moving to the Jennie Candlish yard He may not have stayed the trip last time out and a return to 1 ½ miles may suit his chances. Green Team should be up with the pace and breaks from stall 2 but it feels like an improvement is needed now stepping back in trip Polling Day was a 33/1 course and distance winner on soft ground in June but has failed to follow up since on that effort and comes here off the back of a fall at Newton Abbot.
5.35pm- Harry Cobden takes the ride for the Andrew Balding trained, Playtime. The gelding ran too free last time out at Lingfield but does look to have a good chance here if he can settle better today. Kokinelli is the bottom weight here and should be able to run competitively offa mark of61 He has previously run well here at Chester and is worth a market check. Giselles Defence steps back up in trip and has tactical pace but improvement is needed from his effort last time out at Doncaster.

This race is a seven furlongs maiden stakes for two-year-olds. Maiden races provide a starting point for young horses that are yet to record a victory and most will be very lightly-raced or be making their racecourse debuts. Previous experience can count for a lot when searching for the winner but well-bred or precocious juveniles are more than capable of landing the prize at the first time of asking.

While 3-y-os do not possess a great recent record in this race, ADDISON GREY did the job in the manner of a sprinter on a steep upward curve at Newmarket and he is taken to emulate 2019 winner Oxted, who is the only 3-y-o to land the Portland since 2001 There are dangers pretty much everywhere you look, with Jordan Electrics, who caught the eye at York last time, and Air Force One both greatly respected. The hat-trick seeking Eternal Sunshine, Trefor and Venture Capital are others to consider

RACE DESCRIPTION
This race is a two mile handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races.

A nursery is a handicap that is restricted to two-year-olds only In order to be allowed to take part, entrants must have already run in three maiden or novice races, or have won two races, which then qualifies them for an official handicap rating based on what they have achieved so far. Quite simply the higher their rating, the bigger the weight they have to carry This particular five furlongs race is for horses which have been rated from 0 to 95

This is a one mile, two and a half furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 71 to 90 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

Probable S.P.’s: 9-2 Fire Flame (GB), 7-1 It’sneverjustone (GB), 15-2 Capital Guarantee (IRE), 10-1 Giant (GB), 11-1 Paws For Thought (IRE), 12-1 Probe (GB), Be Frank (GB), 14-1 Miami Matrix (IRE), 16-1 Sailthisshipalone (GB), 18-1 Cruyff Turn (GB), 20-1 Knights Gold (IRE), 22-1 Marquis Pompeo (GB), 40-1 Blue Prince (IRE)
Well-drawn in stall two, IT’SNEVERJUSTONE is taken to complete the hat-trick. He appears to be an uncomplicated type and while a combined 13lb rise for his recent victories at Ffos Las and Galway will make things tougher, there’s a good chance that he has more in the locker Fire Flame is feared most, despite a tricky draw while Capital Guarantee and, if he goes to post, Giant should also have parts to play

RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile, four and a half furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80 Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

Some races can often prove very popular with owners and trainers and as a result more horses are declared to run than the official safety limit allows for. To avoid horses being denied a run which is obviously disappointing for connections, the British Horseracing Authority has allowed the previous race to be split into two divisions, with each contest carrying identical race conditions.

Lightly-raced 4-y-o SIR EDWARD LEAR bounced back to form with a good win at Newmarket, settling better and responding well. The first-time visor could sharpen him up further and he’s fancied to follow up back up in trip. Secret Beach shaped well from an unpromising position at Windsor on his most recent outing and deserves respect, while Kokinelli could also have a say if bouncing back from a below-par effort at Beverley
The Great British Bonus (GBB) offers multiple bonuses of up to £20,000 per eligible race for British-bred fillies and mares
The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £433,668 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from 23rd June to 14th September 2025.
At all of our race meetings, there are three equine vets on duty They are equipped and positioned to give immediate care to a horse should it require it. This may involve screens being erected around a horse to give the veterinary team privacy to administer treatment and does not necessarily mean the worst. The same applies with doctors and jockeys.
