TO DAY’S TO P TI PS

Something Coming finished a close second off a mark of 68 at Kempton on her most recent start and has to be respected back in maiden company. However, DREAM VEGA took a pleasant step forward from her debut fourth to only find one too good at Doncaster last month and this looks a good opportunity to go one better Venetian Sky is another to consider.

TOTEWIN: DREAM VEGA

TOTEEACHWAY: SOMETHING COMING

Secret Mistral returned to form when taking the silver medal home over this trip at Nottingham latest and is respected, but the vote goes to KNICKS. The five-year-old finished a close fourth at Pontefract recently and that form is working out well. Off an changed mark, he can record a second C&D victory. Alfa Duplicate and Coyy are others to watch out for.

TOTEWIN: KNICKS

TOTEEACHWAY: SECRET MISTRAL

Eagle Bay made it two from two since switching to the Harriet Bethell yard over track and trip on his latest outing and an opening mark of 85 might prove to be lenient. Obelix is a player based on his Wetherby success two starts ago, but the one who appeals most is PERCY’S LAD. Daniel & Clare Kubler’s charge showed a lot more when finishing second at Kempton on his most recent start and he could record a third C&D triumph.

TOTEWIN: PERCY’S LAD

START ME UP represents the in-form Richard Spencer yard and ought to go very close here on a hat-trick. Trip and ground-versatile, the three-year-old is open to plenty more improvement now the penny has dropped and both of his wins have come at this track, which is another tick in his box. Knights Gold and Crazee Icon are the dangers.

TOTEWIN: START ME UP

TOTEEACHWAY:

WITNESS STAND finished a head second in this race 12 months ago behind Holguin before winning a Goodwood Group 2. His form last summer reads well in the context of this race and he was back to something like his best last time at Epsom, when a head second again to subsequent Queen Anne Stakes winner Ten Bob Tony in the Tattenham Corner The C&D winner makes more appeal than Myal and Tiber Flow.

TOTEWIN: WITNESS STAND

TOTEEACHWAY: MYAL

SARGENT DENNIS is progressive and might be able to take the necessary step forward here to make it back-to-back wins. He improved between runs in maiden/novice company and gained the success he deserved at Windsor over this distance. An opening mark of 74 looks workable and Jack Channon’s charge gets a confident vote ahead of Polka Blue and Grasmere Boy.

TOTEWIN: SARGENT DENNIS

TOTEEACHWAY: POLKA BLUE

Having filled the runner-up spot on his latest start over C&D, Spartan Times is forecast to be in the thick of the action once more. The five-year-old isn’t taken lightly off an unchanged mark, but NIBRAS GOLD edges the vote. James Owen’s charge has been in good form over fences of late and a repeat of his close-up second over track and trip last September may prove sufficient. Just An Hour is the pick of the remainder

TOTEWIN: NIBRAS GOLD

TOTEEACHWAY: SPARTAN TIMES

Having been drawn in stall 10 here last time, HEATHEN was far from disgraced when finishing a never-nearer third. That was only his second start for current connections and compensation could be on the horizon given his more favourable draw. Imperial Sovereign is effectively 7lb lower than his most recent fourth at York if taking Donagh Murphy’s claim into account and he’s feared most, ahead of Gaelic Approach, who was too bad to be true at Carlisle last time.

TOTEWIN: HEATHEN

TOTEEACHWAY: IMPERIAL SOVEREIGN

RACE DESCRIPTION

This seven furlong contest for fillies and mares aged three-years-old is a maiden stakes - a race for horses that have yet to record a racecourse victory. There are a variety of reasons why the horses in this race could still be maidens. Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s two-year-old career

This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75 In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

DECL ARED RUNNERS 13 2025: MAHARAJAS EXPRESS 5 9 6 David Egan 10-1 (Ian Williams) 11 ran Blinkers worn by No. 5. Visor, Tongue Strap worn by No. 10

Stewards Note:

SECRET MISTRAL: Following its run on 20/6/2026 it was reported that the horse hung left-handed under pressure. AY GEE ELL: Following its run on 16/6/2026 it was reported that the horse lost its action 3f out.

Probable S.P.’s: 11-2 Alfa Duplicate (IRE), 6-1 Secret Mistral (GB), 8-1 Beaumadier (IRE), 10-1 Knicks (IRE), 11-1 Maharajas Express (GB), 12-1 Beauzon (GB), Miraculous (IRE), 14-1 The Flying Seagull (IRE), Ay Gee Ell (IRE), 25-1 Intervention (GB), 28-1 General Assembly (IRE), Arlo’s Girl (GB)

This looks fiendishly competitive but ALFA DUPLICATE ought to find this handy drop back down in class in her favour and whilst she’s likely to face pace pressure on the front end, her willing attitude looks a real asset operating from the plum draw in stall 1. The likelihood of a contested pace will suit former C&D winner Knicks who is lurking on a dangerous mark. Beaumadier and Secret Mistral complete the dangers.

Some races can often prove very popular with owners and trainers and as a result more horses are declared to run than the official safety limit allows for. To avoid horses being denied a run, which is disappointing for connections, the British Horseracing Authority has allowed the previous race to be split into two divisions, with each contest carrying identical race conditions.

CRAZEE ICON was deserving of extra credit in coming from much further back than the other principals when opening her account over C&D 4 weeks ago. A race backed up by the sectionals and with a comfortable next-time-out winner behind, she looks to have plenty going for her nudged up 3lb. The hat-trick seeking Start Me Up is a big danger though, with Knights Gold also making each-way appeal having fallen to a handy mark.

This seven furlong contest for three-year-olds and upwards is a Listed race; a race that can only be bettered by a Group 1, 2 or 3 race. Many of the runners in this race will have already shown themselves to be talented and this race provides a perfect medium for them to be tested against a better class of rival before making the jump into a Group race. Initially the weights are set at 8st 13lb for 3yo colts and geldings and 8st 8lb for 3yo fillies (rising to 9st 7lb and 9st 2lb respectively for 4yos) before penalties are awarded to horses that have previously won above a certain level – 3lb for a Listed race victory or 5lb for a Group 3 success.

This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 66 to 85 Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

PLAY SMARTER

A well-up-to scratch renewal with the two 6f Group 1 sprints at Royal Ascot probably the key pieces of form SATONO REVE came up agonisingly short for the second time in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes and is tentatively selected to reverse the placings with Almeraq and provide Japan with a second win in this prestigious race. Venetian Sun ought to confirm the Commonwealth Cup form with her re-opposing rivals and she demands respect, too.

This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75 Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap and is considered a disadvantage.

MUDITA hasn’t found any further progress in 2 handicaps since her Ripon maiden success, but with stamina on the dam’s side of her pedigree she could still have more to offer over this trip. She gets the vote ahead of Gaelic Approach, who had been holding his form well prior to last time, while Heathen could also be thereabouts.

HORSE WELFARE

At all of our race meetings, there are three equine vets on duty They are equipped and positioned to give immediate care to a horse should it require it. This may involve screens being erected around a horse to give the veterinary team privacy to administer treatment and does not necessarily mean the worst. The same applies with doctors and jockeys.
