The North West Air Ambulance Charity’s helicopters and critical care vehicles operate 365 days a year. Their highly skilled doctors and critical care paramedics on board provide enhanced pre-hospital care and hospital transfers to patients across the entire North West region each year – an area covering 5,500 square miles and over 8 million people.
Since its launch in 1999, the North West Air Ambulance Charity has been called to over 31,000 missions across the region, an average of around seven times a day.
Just as the many critically ill and injured patients would not have survived without the service the charity provides; the North West Air Ambulance Charity would not be here without the support of its community of fundraisers and partners.
The charity is not part of the NHS and doesn’t receive any government funding. They rely completely on public and corporate donations to carry on saving lives. The North West Air Ambulance Charity must raise over £12 million every year to continue its lifesaving service.
For more information on the North West Air Ambulance Charity or to donate, please scan the QR code or visit nwairambulance.org.uk.

Welcome to Chester Racecourse for the most glamorous fixture of the season, Ladies Day! Today we look forward to thrilling racing, our annual best dressed competition, and of course our VIP DJ, Radio 1’s Jordan North, who will be performing after the racing.
Today’s race card begins with The Contact Company Handicap Stakes at 1:35pm. Later in the afternoon, we have a very exciting Class 1 Listed Race, The CAA Stellar Chester Stakes, at 3:20pm. Finally, the racing will draw to a close with The Jordan North DJ Set Handicap Stakes.
I’d like to say a sincere thank you to today’s sponsors; The Contact Company, EBF, Printworks Chester, CAA Stellar, CSP and KMF Group. All of us here at Chester Racecourse are grateful for your support.
I’d also like to extend my thanks to our partners who have provided some incredibly generous prizes for today’s best dressed competition; Beaverbrooks, RIO Chester, Edinburgh Gin, Net World Sports, and Laurent-Perrier
Be sure to stay after racing to see Jordan North take to the stage. He’s going to keep the party spirit going after racing has finished with his fantastic DJ set.
We next race here at Chester on Friday 15th September for our Autumn Festival Friday We have just four meetings left on the Roodee this year, so I hope you’ll join us again in September to make the most of our remaining race days.
WIN ONLY The most common form of bet You win if your horse is first past the post. Example: £5 win at 8/1 would return £45 (8 x £5 = £40 + £5 stake)
EACH WAY Backing a horse to win or be placed. This doubles your bet
for example: £5 each way = £5 to win and £5 for a place = £10 total stake
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting
• Fewer than 4 runners - all on to win
• 5
7 runners (inclusive)
1/4 odds a place 1,2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4
Some bookmakers also offer ‘betting without the favourite’, where you can back your selection at reduced odds to either win or finish second to the horse nominated by the bookmaker as favourite. You may bet with confidence with any bookmaker on course as they operate with Administration Of Gambling On Tracks Ltd. (AGT) approval In the unlikely event of a dispute with a bookmaker please call upon the assistance of the AGT Betting Ring Manager, who can be found on the ground floor of the Grandstand Enclosure. The AGT also offers a ‘late pay’ service in case the bookmaker leaves the course before you have collected your winnings. Late pay claims should be sent to: AGT, 3A Kings Hall, Parsons Green, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, PE27 4WY.
Experiencing the buzz of the betting ring may be a little daunting at first, but you will soon find it is very easy to place a bet. Here are some guidelines for racegoers to follow:
1. Each bookmaker will be offering slightly different prices, so shop around for the best odds against your selection.
2. Call your bet clearly to the bookmaker by stating the name and / or number of your chosen horse and the stake
3. Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his / her clerk and correct him immediately if any details are called wrongly
4. Make sure you obtain a ticket from the bookmaker and keep it safe.
5. If your selection wins, hand the ticket back to the bookmaker for settlement. Never destroy or dispose of your ticket until after the “Weighed in” announcement has been made Betting with the bookmaker is tax-free. Deductions are made only if a horse is withdrawn after the betting market has been formed
Please check the minimum stake accepted by each bookmaker on his display board Some bookmakers do not take sums under £5, especially in the main betting ring, but there will be others who are happy to accept £2 bets. Please tender the correct change when possible.

HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
15 Jockey’s photo If there is a number next to the name, this indicates that the jockey can claim that amount in weight (lbs) off the stated riding weight
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
1 FALCON EIGHT (IRE) (314) 2145/34- 6 9-10 (10) Br B g Galileo (IRE) - Polished Gem (IRE) Frankie Dettori J O Moyglare Stud Farms Ltd D. K. Weld, Ireland T B Moyglare Stud Farm LtdRevich, who won this race in 2020 off a 4lb lower mark, can never be ruled out at this circuit and is likely to go well again despite his high draw However, POSITIVE IMPACT has faced stiffer tests since he finished a close second in last year’s renewal and, from a more handy stalls position, he shades the vote Master Zoffany and Boardman are others with solid past form at this venue
WIN: POSITIVE IMPACT
DANGER: REVICH
Time may prove that Foreign Exchange wasn’t disgraced when second to a well-fancied colt at Thirsk last month and he commands respect, while Politico is also noted. The verdict, however, is for INFINITY BLUE, who improved markedly from his first to second run when finishing third in a Newmarket novice, one place ahead of the subsequent Gimcrack Stakes winner Lake Forest
WIN: INFINITY BLUE
DANGER: FOREIGN EXCHANGE
A wide berth hinders a quick follow-up success from Dickieburd, who turns out under a 6lb penalty for winning at Catterick on Wednesday, while Sugar Hill Babe (winner) can confirm recent Bath form with Skallywag Bay (second). Nevertheless, the one who appeals most from a low draw is ANOTHER BAAR, whose previous form stands up to scrutiny and he will be a big player with a sharp start.
WIN: ANOTHER BAAR
DANGER: DICKIEBURD
MILITARY ORDER was denied a four-timer when well beaten in the Derby in June and Charlie Appleby’s inmate looks the one to beat dropping in class. A full-brother to 2021 Derby and King George hero Adayar, there is likely much more to come and the threeyear-old can get the better of Lone Eagle, who can bounce back having failed to get involved in the Goodwood Cup last month. Irish raider Shanroe is another to consider
WIN: MILITARY ORDER
DANGER: LONE EAGLE
A case can be made for all of these, but WORKS OF ART broke her maiden at the second time of asking in July and could be worth siding with. A half-sister to Group 2 two-year-old winner Tactical, Andrew Balding’s inmate is fancied to progress on her turf debut. The grade-dropping Jabaara can give the selection plenty to think about and is expected to appreciate coming back to 6f. Elinor Dashwood is another to bear in mind.
WIN: WORKS OF ART
DANGER: JABAARA
Preference is for ROMAN DRAGON, who is drawn nicely in stall four and can offer a bold bid. Hugo Palmer’s charge returns to the track after 50 days off where he was beaten just a length over C&D. Off the same mark, he can turn the form around with Count D’Orsay now 1lb better off Last-time-out winner Spoof deserves respect off 2lb higher, while Paws For Thought also boasts solid claims
WIN: ROMAN DRAGON
DANGER: COUNT D’ORSAY
SEPTEMBER POWER was a facile winner over 2m at Beverley last time and this looks a good opportunity to follow up Michael Wigham’s charge scored by seven and a half lengths on that occasion and she looks primed to defy a 5lb penalty. Zimmerman also won last time, scoring by a head over 2m at Haydock, but he may find it tough to score again up 3lb in the ratings, while better can be expected of Brave Knight.
WIN: SEPTEMBER POWER
DANGER: ZIMMERMAN
DESCRIPTION
A left-handed circular flat course, turning for most of the way, and finishing in a short straight which is less than two furlongs in length. The course suits the handy type of horse and a fast start is quite important in sprints. At just over a mile around this is the smallest course in Great Britain.

The trophy is to commemorate Mr Bobby McAlpine. Bobby was at the heart of Chester Race Company for 30 years, serving as Chairman for 20 years – and Honorary President until the time of his passing in 2021.
He was instrumental in the expansion of Chester Race Company bringing it to where it is today His love of racing came from his uncle telling him about winning the Grand National in 1921 with his horse Shaun Spadah.
His first horse was bought from Ireland when still in his twenties and the love affair with horse racing continued. Many winners followed in the King George V Stakes in 1969 and the ascot Gold Cup in 1970 He then began a small breeding operation breeding the likes of Inglis Drever, a three time winner of the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, and many others.
The Chester Race Company and his family felt offering his trophy for a period of a year to the Leading Trainer at Chester throughout the season would be a fitting tribute.

This race is a seven and a half furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this particular race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Despite having no rating restrictions attached to it the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tend to make open handicaps very competitive races.

At all of our race meetings, there are three equine vets on duty They are equipped and positioned to give immediate care to a horse should it require it. This may involve screens being erected around a horse to give the veterinary team privacy to administer treatment and does not necessarily mean the worst. The same applies with doctors and jockeys.

Though well below par in three starts so far this season, TIS MARVELLOUS may again spring back to life in a race that he won last year and in 2021. Interestingly he arrived here 12 months on the back of a similarly low-key build up but that didn’t stop him scoring in decisive fashion. Apollo One thoroughly deserves to get his head in front following a series of cracking efforts in big handicaps and is feared most ahead of Judicial, while Silky Wilkie would be a big player if taking his chance.

This is a five furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 61 to 80. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

PLAY SMARTER
A chance is taken on DUAL IDENTITY who was runner-up in this race off a similar mark last year and is probably in better form than his finishing positions at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood might suggest. Lord Protector has 2 wins and a close second to show for his 3 previous outings over C&D so he’s an obvious threat for in-form Ralph Beckett. Gaassee and Eagle’s Way, assuming stall 14 isn’t too much of an inconvenience, are others to consider

Many of the runners in this race will have already shown themselves to be talented and this race provides a perfect medium for them to be tested against a better class of rival before making the jump into a Group race. Penalties are awarded to horses that have previously won above a certain level – 3lb for a Listed race victory, 5lb for a Group 3 success and 7lb for those who have scored in a Group 1 or 2.

This is a two mile handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 66 to 85
Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb
