Leading Trainer OF CHESTER 2023 season
will
The trophy is to commemorate Mr Bobby McAlpine. Bobby was at the heart of Chester Race Company for 30 years, serving as Chairman for 20 years –and HonoraryPresident until the time of his passing in 2021.
He was instrumental in the expansion of Chester Race Company bringing it to whereitistoday. His love of racing came from his uncle telling him about winning the Grand National in 1921 with his horse Shaun Spadah.
His first horse was bought from Ireland when still in his twenties and the love affair with horse racing continued. Many winners followed in the King George VStakes in 1969 and the ascot Gold Cup in 1970.Hethen began a small breeding operation breeding the likes of Inglis Drever, athree time winner of the Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, and many others.
The Chester Race Company and his family felt offering his trophy for a period of ayear to the Leading Trainer at Chester throughout the season would be afitting tribute.

PLAYSMARTER
HAARAR gives the strong impression he has abigger performance in him granted a truly-run race, and with his yardamong the winners, he’s just about the most appealing option. Restorer has plenty of form at thisvenue to his name and is dangerous given the mark he’s dropped to, with Tudor another to note.
