Today’s highlight is none other than the prestigious Paddy Power Gold Cup, one of the most exciting and anticipated races in the National Hunt calendar, set to draw an expected crowd of over 30,000 eager racegoers.

This year’s feature race promises intense competition, with a star-studded field that includes the 2022 winner Ga Law and Protektorat, the Ryanair Chase victor. It’s a day dedicated to celebrating the thrilling essence of jump racing at its finest.

A special thank you to our sponsors for their contribution to the day. Today’s gratitude goes to Paddy Power, JCB, Steel Plate & Sections Ltd and Karndean Designflooring.

Don’t miss the Parade of former racehorses at 11:35 - 11:55 in Parade Ring!

About RoR:

The parade showcases the versatility of the thoroughbred together with the range of activities open to horses when they finish their racing careers, thanks to the work of Retraining of Racehorses (RoR), British Horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of horses that have retired from racing

Today’s 10-strong parade features some familiar names who have already adapted to a new career, including the former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, Coneygree, the 2015 Hennessey Gold Cup winner Smad Place, the 2016 winner Native River

These well-known former racehorses will be joined by stars like Amroth Bay, Gentleman At Arms, and Wonga Swinger, who are all thriving in their second careers.

To help stimulate demand for former racehorses within the wider equestrian market, RoR annually stages over 40 separate competition series across 15 different disciplines, catering for all levels of ability, from grassroots to elite. The disciplines include dressage, showing, polo, eventing, show jumping, endurance, hunting and horseball.

He has been given plenty of time and has started jumping which he thoroughly enjoys The aim this year is to target the Jockey Club RoR National Championships where he has already qualified in the Novice Showing section. As far as Candy is concerned, he is still the King of the yard Candy had his first taste of dressage earlier on this year qualifying for the dressage regionals held at Blenheim. The aim would be to get him out Eventing next year but only if he enjoys it as the most important thing is that he is happy and enjoys his next chapter where he has a home for Life. MY NOBLE LORD, a most progressive handicapper on the Flat, has the physique and attitude to do well over jumps and looks sure to leave the bare form of his opening win at Chepstow last month well behind now stepping up in grade. Prairie Angel and East India Dock are also promising and they head the dangers.

An Arkle trial in name only, L’EAU DU SUD the sort of good-class handicap hurdler his stable almost routinely turn into even better chasers and he’s strongly fancied to take the step up in class in his stride and make it 2-2 in this sphere. Lookaway showed his likeable attitude when making a winning return/chase debut at Uttoxeter recently, so he heads up the dangers with improvement on the cards, with Western Zephyr taken to edge out San Salvador for third.

PLAY SMARTER

Plenty are in with a shout but it’s hard to side against Dan Skelton’s upwardly-mobile DOYEN QUEST who resumed with an excellent second in a big-field Chepstow handicap (form been franked) and still looks ahead of his mark with this longer trip also a likely plus. Gavin Cromwell’s new recruit Noble Birth could emerge as the main dangeralthough fellow Irish challengerZeeband commands plenty ofrespect for last year’s winning yard In-form duo Gowel Road and Itso Fury can both have a saytoo.

All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards.
