WELCOME TO
Welcome back to Cheltenham for the second day of The Showcase meeting. It was great to see so many people here for our first day of the new season yesterday and we have another exciting day of racing ahead of us today. It is difficult to believe that over seven months have passed since this year’s Festival as we reflect on some magnificent performances we witnessed in March. This time of year allows many owners to dream of a future Festival winner as they see their treasured horses produced on our racecourse for the first time this season, and we have some exciting prospects running here today. For those who don’t currently own a racehorse, that can be resolved by a visit to the Hall of Fame. A well as being updated to reflect our celebration of the centenary of the Cheltenham Gold Cup this season, the Hall of Fame is also home to The Syndicate Village where racing clubs and syndicates will be on hand to talk through the fun and thrills of racehorse ownership and they will be very happy to sell you a share in a horse. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who are supporting racing today including William Hill, Masterson Holdings and Pertemps. We wish them all a wonderful day with us here at Cheltenham. The Mandarin Restaurant opens for the first time this meeting and is located on the ground floor of the main grandstand, where racegoers can walk in and request a table with prices starting at £65 for two courses of delicious pub favourites. Tables are available for 2-8 people and will be available on a first come first served basis. Nicky Henderson, who provided us with one of the most memorable moments of this year’s Festival with Constitution Hill’s stunning victory in the Unibet Champion Hurdle, is signing his new book “My life in 12 horses.” Nicky can be found at various times during the day in the “Showcasing the Sport” area beside Quevega’s, under the Crescent Walkway. After racing, The Wickermen will be playing in the Centaur between 5 and 6pm. Thank you so much for joining us as The Showcase gets the Jump racing campaign of 2023/24 underway here at Cheltenham Racecourse, and we hope you have a fabulous day and we see you in a few weeks time at The November Meeting. Ian Renton Managing Director, Jockey Club West

EXPERT VIEW
A quick way to see a horse’s past performance. These are its recent finishing positions.
How the experts rate the horse’s chances:
Look out for Letters: C D CD BF
= Has won at this course = Has won over this distance = Has won over this distance at this course = Was a beaten favourite
MORE INFORMATION ON THE FORM / P F U R CO B S r
= New racing season = Missed racing season = Was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race = Horse fell = Rider unseated = Horse refused to race = The horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse = Horse was brought down = Horse slipped = The horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race = Disqualified
d Bold form figures = performance in all-weather (Flat) or Point-to-Point (Jump) races
2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse. 3. Timeform view and TFR rating 4. HORSE’S TRAINER & THEIR LOCATION
Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race. 5. JOCKEYS Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day. OTHER USEFUL DETAILS 6. BETTING EXPLAINED Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number.
Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.
Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

Worth keeping on side this PLAY SMARTER term, he earns the vote to come out on top, with the rapidly improving Spirit d’Aunou heading the dangers. Punta del Este and Bois Guillbert can do battle for a minor role.

White is the new Orange Pioneering research into how horses see the world is helping reduce risk in racing The colour used on hurdles and fences at all racecourses across Britain has changed from orange to white. • Horses see in a reduced number of colours and don't see orange and red as humans do. • Research by Exeter University showed that the clarity of obstacles in racing for horses could be improved by the use of white, and British racing made the change. • Effects on any changes in faller rates are now being monitored. • Changing the colour on fences is one part of a bigger body of work by the Horse Welfare Board and British Racing to continuously reduce risk in the sport. The Racecourse would be grateful if you would observe all Health & Safety requirements whilst you are at Cheltenham Racecourse. The emergency exits from the bars onto the grandstand steppings are painted yellow and we would request that you do not stop whilst in this area. We would also request that only those that are disabled use the disabled viewing ramp and that parents keep a close eye on all children and prevent them from climbing the running rails and getting on to the actual racecourse. BENCHES
Weights, Pedigrees, Trainers’ Names, Descriptions, Performances and Values of races have been added for the convenience of the Public, but are subject to alteration. All horses must parade in the Parade Ring except by permission of the Stewards, but in all cases must pass through the Ring on the way to the Post.
ALCOHOL
Please would racegoers refrain from standing on the benches on the lawns in front of the grandstands. As well as an obvious safety risk, it also blocks the view of a number of your fellow racegoers.
DOGS Regrettably, dogs other than guide dogs are not allowed within the enclosures
E-CIGARETTES Please note, e-cigarettes are not permitted to be used inside.
HBLB The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £768,547 in ratecard and incremental prize money at this racecourse from September to December 2023.

TOUTS JCR is taking strong action against touts. Touting is seen by some as a legitimate way of buying or selling last minute tickets but many tickets sold by touts are fraudulent or counterfeit. An injunction has been issued preventing touting at the Racecourse. You could yourself be breaking the law by dealing with a tout. Genuine tickets sales are available at all the entrances or in advance via the Racecourse website.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS All you do at the Racecourse including transactions as well as entry onto the Racecourse are subject to the Terms and Conditions. For details see the Racecourse Website www.cheltenham. co.uk. A copy is also available at the Racecourse Office.
NOTICES
RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing. All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Haydock Park Racecourse employs a minimum of three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey. If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital.
